(一)基本資料

The university of Queensland, it's located in Brisbane, the third biggest city in Australia. Our semester starts from July to October, and February to June, so we actually have short semesters and long breaks. (34字)

(二)課程學習

The language courses in UQ are very impressive to me. Because we only have 12 weeks in a semester, each class are very fast paced. We are forced to memorize and improve ourselves every week. It will be very stressful in other kinds of courses, but in language courses it's easier to see yourself moving forward. I took Korean classes and learned a lot. In this course we have lectures and contacts each week. Which means that we have smaller class groups to review and improve what we learned for the week. There is one hour lecture and two hours contact a week. In the lecture it's a bigger class with more students, and contacts are in a smaller class which our teacher is able to correct each student's pronunciation. We also have online quiz sometimes, and practices we can do on our online school website called blackboard. These all help us improve a lot and helps us be less nervous before each quiz. Our teacher Dr. Su is very patience, and she remembers each student and make sure every one of us has no problem before we move on. Learning a new language can be a very long and frustrating process sometimes, so it's quit important to follow a good teacher to start with. She described the process in most language learning, which we start from all the basic things and gain a sense of achievement as we learn more and more, the sense of achievement will keep us motivated until we reach another level feeling that it's hard to make huge improvements. That's when the time some people start to give up. She suggested that we should always remember why we started and keep it in mind. The other way is that we can plan to visit that country and try to communicate with people and see how far we went. I can feel that she genuinely hopes that we don't give up in language learning.(327字)

(三)生活環境

We study in the St. Lucia campus of UQ, and it's located in a very convenient area. We can get there by bus or ferry. There is almost everything we need during our study. We can get all the textbooks in Co-op, or borrow them in the library. There are several library that are opened 24 hours, and there are plenty food courts and stores in campus. I'm living in a share house around Mater hill. There are five rooms, me and my friend rent one room each and share the common areas with other flatmates. We don't know these people in advance, so it's important to reach an agreement when living together. It's quite convenient living in Brisbane, we can almost reach anywhere buy bus or train. If you're traveling with a few friends, you van even consider taking uber and split the fee, it's not too expensive as well. The salary and daily expense are all a bit higher than in Taiwan, but if we cook more by ourselves rather than eating out too much, we can definitely save some money. There are supermarkets like Coles or Woolworths are almost everywhere, not hard to find at all. During our stay here, the weather are nice and sunny most of the time. It's a bit cold in winter, a bit better than Taiwan, and it can get quite hot in the summer. But I think it's not too hard to tolerate after all, the weather here is very comfortable in short. (四)自我成長

I'm not going through too much culture shock here, most of the Australians here are nice and kind. We just have to wait quite a long time doing everything, but it's not a big deal. We only have 12 weeks in a semester, so everything are quite fast paced, I took some time to get used to the way they study here. Basically we have to try to catch up and understand and memorize everything we learn in each class, otherwise we won't be able to understand the next class, and it gets even more difficult for us to follow. We don't have lots of classes here, although we do have to spend some time studying, we still have lots of spare time to organize. As for me, I work part time job when I'm not studying. Holding a student visa, we can only work 20 hours per week during the semester, so I don't think it will use up too much of our time, so it's fine. I learned lots of the culture, understand more of the society, and meet more people during work, so I think it's a pretty nice experience. It also helped me with organizing my money and plans to travel around Australia. During work, I also get to know lots of people from different country and culture, it's quite interesting to see how different people has different habit and attitude. And we also have to be careful of the manners between different people when we work and chat together.(252字)

(五)大三出國建議

I think studying abroad for a year is a perfect time to explore the world and also understand more about ourselves. Because we are far away from home, we finally get to make decisions for ourselves. We can totally organize our own time and travel or do things we want to do. So try to make good use of this year, and also just follow your heart. Don't let yourself regret for not doing something, and don't regret after you tried. Being so free and independence for this long time also means that we need to be responsible of ourselves and deal things on our own as well. Don't always rely on others, try to search for some informations before asking people questions, you can get more detailed answers as well. Be brave and also careful enough when you make each decision, and be sure to find enough informations on the internet or also from friends. The more you push yourself out to explore the country, the more different kind of things you try to do, the more information and experience you will get. And as most teacher and parents may have said several times, be careful and safe no matter what you do. On the other hand, take care of yourself well and don't get sick, it's expensive to see a doctor in another country, and also it may be a bit hard to describe the symptom of your illness, and also a bit hard to understand the doctor's advice as well.(253字)
