My favorite class was the Communication Internship-Blackbird Film festival. This class is not really a class, is a event planning internship. We met every Wednesday preparing the film festival. I learn a lot from this internship. From writing emails, fundraising, marketing these basic skills, to set up the banner, making popcorn, set up the light these technical skills. Moreover, I have many friends now. At the beginning, I only knew few people and felt lonely during the weekly meeting. I’m not a communication studies major student, and English was not my mother language, thus, when people chat around, or during the discussion, I listened more than I talked. I felt hard to fit in the group at the first few weeks, but then I had the chance to talk to more people, and they were so nice to me. Especially during the festival, we set up, teared down, and exposed our energy, at that time, I felt like we were a group, and had each other’s back. Even after the festival were over, we still shared our daily lives and hang out together. I would say I met a group of nice and clever friends, and I really cherished the rest of the days that I could hang out with them. Professor Sam Avary is the best professor I ever had! He's kind, humor and just like a friend. If you are interested in film making or event planning, you can learn a lot from his class and you will definitely like it! I also took another class which is called advanced documentary. At first, I don't like documentary, but after I take this class, I enjoy making documentary. This class provide all the professional camera for us to rent, and it's a really great experience. In this semester I produced two documentaries, and even get a student director award! I really like this kind of hands-on courses, it takes time but really good experience!(327字)

(三)生活環境

The first semester I lived in west campus which most of the international students lived. It was an off-campus apartment, it has kitchen, living room, bathroom. I shared with other three people and had my own room. I like west campus; however, the bus are time consuming. For me, I took lots of class both semester, and the spare time between the class were not enough to transport back and forth the dorm and the campus. Thus, the second semester I moved on campus, and lived in DeGroat Hall. It is like the dorm in Lanyang but more new. It 's more suitable for me, since it is on campus, I don't really have to rely on the bus, instead, I can walk to any classroom, dining hall and Gym. The most difference between living west campus and on-camous is the meal plan. Honestly, the meal plan is very expensive, and the first two month I can't really get used to it. In west campus, I took shopping bus to Walmart and buy some groceries to cook. The second semester, I lived in on-campus thus I have to buy the on-campus meal plan. This meal plan you can go into the dinning hall as many time as you want, not like the off-campus meal plan you have to count how many meal you left. For the weather, frankly I still couldn't get used to it. The winter is too long. In Cortland it snows a lot, thus a good snow boots or a warm coat is very important. For entertainment, there are some bars in main street that student like to hang out. Also, there are some Asian food restaurant too! There aren't any Asian Market in Cortland, thus we mostly rent a car and drive to Ithaca or Syracuse which only take an hour to get there. (308字)

(四)自我成長

【照片說明:BBQ party with my friends】

The first semester was very tough for me. I couldn't get used to the food here, and try to make as much friend as I can. However, It's not easy to get into a group with the Americans or other international students. People still tend to stay in there comfort zone, and hard to really know them. In class, I'm the only Asian/international student,I tried to blend in the class but its not that easy. Language is not the barrier for me, but the culture is. When people talk about the country they live, the childhood they share, some topic you don't know, that is where the gap between me and the local students, and it's hard to conquer. For me, the first few month, trying to be positive made me feel exhausted, and I became antisocial, homesick and sensitive. I don't really think I conquer the cultural difference, but I did change my thoughts and my lifestyle. I became more independence and can enjoy my own time. In Taiwan, I feel weird if I eat by myself, workout by myself, go to anywhere by myself. I always want friends to accompany with me. But in America, I learned how to be independence. When I became independent, I somehow understand how the friendship works in America. The distance between friends were different with Taiwan. They tend to have more personal time rather than always hanging out as a group. The longer I stayed in here the more I get used to, and luckily I did make some nice friends during this year.(264字)

If you decide to come to SUNY Cortland, I will say this may be the right place for you or may not. SUNY Cortland have a lot of resources you can use, but you have to find it first. There are tons of emails about whats going on the campus, and outside the campus. For example, I knew about the Blackbird Film Festival because I met Sam on the trip to the Buffalo Film festival. I saw this trip's information on email, and sign up for it. Though I didn't know who will attend the trip and didn't know what is a film festival at that time, i still give it a try. This trip influenced my study aboard year. Also, there are some emails about applying intern/job in New York City, etc. SUNY Cortland have these resources, it all depends on how you use it. Moreover, I would say, if you don't have pressure on your credits, take some class you are interested in. There are lots of hands-on classes that you may now have a chance to experience in Taiwan. Last but not least, change your lifestyle. Before I came, I hate exercise, but this is a big thing in SUNY Cortland. The gym is the best gym I ever seen and it's free! I hired a personal trainer, and start to push myself start working out. Maybe the gym have a special power, I did start love working out by myself and feel healthier than in Taiwan. Just try to open your mind, and try everything. Everything can happen in here! (265字)

I also apply the job in SUNY Cortland. I work in one of the dinning hall. It's a good experience because you can manage your working shift every week and the salary is pretty well too! The manager are nice, the full time worker are nice too!(47字)
