(二)課程學習

In spring semester this year, I chose “Variable topics in Korea”. The professor would lead some topics and we could discuss together with him. The range of the topic we discussed before including the history of South Korea, the process of the Korean War, the relations of inter-Korean relations and all the topics about current trends about South Korea. The format of the lesson is not limited. If we have questions about South Korea, the way of the professor answered it is more like chatting. During the class I could know more about the cultural items in South Korea, political relation about inter-Korean. The professor had invited several speakers to class. Each of them are all worked in the international organization that coped with the events about Korea. Last week, the professor invited a special guest to give us a lecture. The infector from North Korea! He talked about the process how he escaped to the South Korea and also shared the life experiences about his life in South Korea. He also showed the picture when he was in the orphanage in North Korea. It showed that some of his friends were just hundred thirty five to hundred forty five tall when they were eighteen. Teenagers in North Korea couldn’t get taller because of the malnutrition. It is sad to hear that they couldn’t eat well, grow up well in a great living environment. A speech in two hours, without the information from the press. The most impressive thing from him was the words he said at the end of the presentation. The guest speaker told us that we are lucky. “We cannot choose where we were born and we live a better life than he lived before.” During this class, I can know the different sounds from other international students to share and describe what their countries’ culture is. This lesson gave me plenty of colorful cultural experiences not only about inter- Korean knowledges, background of several histories but also understand more aspects behind the stories happened here. (三)生活環境

Chung Ang University is located in Heukseok dong. All the international students are lived in the dormitory. It’s convenient to buy the groceries around here. We have supermarket and also the Heukseok traditional market. The dormitory is in spot that close to the top of the mountain. It’s because that Chung Ang University is built with the mountain. When I first got here, it was a tiring thing to climb up the mountain. Right after few months, I heard some information from other international students that we can take the free shuttle bus from school. The shuttle bus is the cycle route. The terrain of South Korea usually built by the hillside. Thus, I got a good chance to get a healthier body by walking in my daily life. This winter is extremely cold in South Korea, this is also my first time to see the snows. It was beautiful but also inconvenient in the same time. Especially the melting snow would easily make people fall down on the ground while walked down the stairs. Additionally, it was common to have heater and ground heater devices in South Korea. Without those useful devices, I really couldn’t imagine that how we could survive in this snowy season. Luckily, I was able to have rice as staple food in South Korea. There is no big differences in the aspect about food. I love Korean cuisine. However, most of the Korean traditional food are made with the spicy flavor. The famous street food tteopokki (rice cakes with spicy sauces) is still too spicy for my stomach. (266字)

I lived in Dong-jak gu in Seoul which is a core place to easy go to other places around Seoul by subway system or bus. After I finished the classes in the morning, sometimes I will take the subway to some other places in Seoul city. It is convenient as long as you bring T money (public transportation card in South Korea) with you, you can go anywhere in Seoul. I wanted to know more about the history of South Korea, I went to the National Central museum. It’s free for the tourists. I spent all my afternoon time there. With the manual in hand, I got a great chance to understand more about South Korea. Because of the convenient public transportation system, I did spend a lot of time alone when I didn’t have class. I went to beach alone, I went to see the palaces that built up in ancient dynasty. I did learn how to spend great time with myself here and also learned how to cope with the things alone. During this winter vacation, I went to Dongjak District Public Health Center alone for the TB test. The tb test is necessary item that the whole international students have to submit if we want to live in the dormitory. The reason why I went there it was because I searched the information from the internet that showed it’s cheaper to have a physical examinations in district public health center to foreigners. And I went there alone. I was nervous during the process. I was afraid that I might misunderstand the meaning from the staff in the health center. Until the day I got the result of my TB test it did ease my mind. (291字)

(五)大三出國建議

Some of the English taught lessons in Chung Ang University are limited only open for the students who are major in the specific department. I chose more lessons that related to the Korean cultures. Because I got to know more cultures from South Korea. Also in the cultural lessons you can have more chances to more international students. I think it is necessary to learn some basic letters in Korean. It might be a tough time for someone who want to talk with local people in English. Take my living environment as example, I didn’t live in the places around some tourist spots. It is hard to communicate with people in English. I highly suggested if other people would like to choose Chung Ang University. You must learn some basic conversations in Korean. It will help you to adapt the life here better and fast. The transportation system is convenient in Seoul however the google map application might not be a good partner for you when you travel in South Korea. Compared to google map system, Naver map is a choice that most of local people suggest. It’s common to see Koreans use it to find the destination. During this year, I have experienced so many cultural events in South Korea. The cultural events here is worth to explore. You might feel it’s so alike the Chinese culture. However the Korean culture remains the beauty of its unique. There are so many beautiful scenery and historical heritages to visit in South Korea. (255字)

Last year, I went to DMZ (Demilitarized Zone)tour with my friends. It was a great chance to visit a place that i've seen from the textbook in the junior high school. During the tour, we have to show our passport to the soilders who checked the identity from foreign tourists. "The 3rd Tunnel" is under the border between North Korea and South Korea where you might feel hard to breathe as you walked in the underground extrance.North Korea claimed that it's for coal mine consturction however it's the most threaten and close tunnel to the capital of South Korea. In the tunnel, it has the height limit for people to pass. some of the slogan shows that if you want to pass you have to bend over. I also saw the train with the bullet holes during the Korean War, the historical scars becomes the important symbol for people to remember the Korean War. The ribbons which are tied up on the fences by some refugees symbolized they missed their hometown and prayed for their family are all live well in North Korea.(185字)
