(一)基本資料

Ewha Woman's University in Seoul (South Korea) is the university I went for exchange, Ewha University is located in the central area of Seoul. The location is incredibly convenient, there are buses, subways and even train can take you to where ever you want easily. Ewha Woman's University is one of the best university in South Korea, therefore, the study environment is very competitive. The semester system in South Korea is somehow similar to Taiwan, but the courses requires more efforts. Most of the courses have midterms and finals, if not, a heavy report is required. Moreover, there are lots of homework and quiz in almost each course. In addition, attendance are strictly enforced in Ewha, students must be aware of not skipping too many classes. However, you will gain and experience more than you can imagine when studying in Ewha Woman's University. (143字)

【照片說明:Bonnie and Clyde is my favorite movie in this course. 】

In the first semester of my exchange year, I took 4 courses including Korean, Business Communication, Research Writing, and British and American Film. Except language learning, the other courses are very inspiring. For instance, British and American Film- the professor will give questions about the film and let students to speak up freely to share their opinions. Almost every students shared their opinions confidently, I was inspired not only by the professor, but also the attitude and opinions of other students. In this course we watched four films, The Player, Bonnie and Clyde, The Piano, and The God Father I-II, and I enjoyed watching all of them. This course not only discussed about the film, the character, meaning behind, but also the way of how the director filmed each scene, which I found interesting. In addition, the professor won't play the movie during class, each student need to watch it during their free time, and discuss questions in class. From my perspective, this way is much more efficient than just sitting in class and waste time watching the film. The best part of this course is, although the movies are not the latest ones, but they are also very interesting. Moreover, the professor will encourage us to think how the movie reflects reality, or how it rephrase the social issues back in history. Take Bonnie and Clyde as example, they both died in the end of the movie because of what they've done. The professor questioned us that is it really all their fault? It is certain that you have to pay for the crimes you did, but what if they're somehow forced by the situation or the society? From my opinion, it is something worth to discuss, and this situation can still happen in the society we are now living in. (301字)

(三)生活環境

【照片說明:Ewha campus during the freezing winter. 】

Ewha University is located in the central area of Seoul, and the convenience of living on Ewha campus is incredible. First of all, there are no worries of getting anything you need for living around Ewha; groceries shopping, daily necessities, pharmacies, variety of restaurants, or even clothes shopping. Second, Ewha is very close to popular districts in Seoul, which gives students more choices of what they need and want. For instance, a very popular district in Seoul with plenty of restaurants, shopping places and entertainments- Sinchon district, is only 10 minutes away of walking distance from Ewha. Furthermore, Hongdae district is one of the most popular area in Seoul, it is also a district that is never quiet. However, you will never be bored or hungry living on Ewha campus. The weather in Seoul was my major concern and bothers me the most, the four seasons in Korea are very distinct. It can be very hot and humid during summer, just like Taiwan, but it can also freeze you to death when winter arrives. I suffered a lot during the winter in Seoul, the coldest temperature can be down to -16 degree. Although I enjoy living in this city, but I really dislike the winter here. It has been approximately 7 months since living in Ewha, and I never get tired of looking at the beautiful campus. As I've mentioned before, the weather is distinct in Korea, which makes the campus looks different in every season. It's quite amazing to see the campus from green to brown, brown to white, white to pink, and to green again. (265字)

(四)自我成長

The living style and culture in Korea is not too different to Taiwan compare to western countries, therefore, it wasn't a big struggle to adapt living in Korea. The only thing that stressed me is language, because most Korean doesn't speak fluent English, when it comes to buying things, asking directions, and ordering food, there are some difficulties due to language barrier. Fortunately, Ewha University offers free Korean courses for international students, and there are two types of Korean courses, practical and academic. In order to improve my Korean efficiently, I took the academic course, which is Monday to Thursday every morning from 8 to 10:45 am. As a native Chinese speaker, Korean wasn't very difficult for me, but only in the beginning. After a few months of learning Korean, it started to get more difficult, and due to the frequency of Korean class, there are tons of grammars and vocabularies to memorize. Learning a new language is always a challenge, and sometimes you get tired of it at one point. However, thanks to the frequency of class and the environment, it didn't took me too long to overcome my difficulty. In addition, it is hard to get use to the winter in Seoul. Before I came to Seoul, I enjoy winter more than summer, but after a semester in Seoul, I'm already missing the warm back in Taiwan. When it's freezing out there, me and my friends will just stay in the dorms, or do indoor activities. But remember I have class every morning from Monday to Thursday? What a struggle, I literally questioned myself every morning "Do I really need to learn Korean?" during the freezing winter. However, I'm glad that I survived, and got a pretty good grade in Korean. (五)大三出國建議

A lot people would say that the purpose of going on an exchange is to have fun, I don't deny that, but I think you can do more than that. During your exchange year, try to make some friends despite any nation, do something different that you usually don't dare to do back home, and have confidence in yourself. Although having fun and traveling is important during exchange, but how many chances in life you have to go abroad to study for a year? Not that much right? Therefore, don't just think about the entertain part, try to manage your time equally, because you can gain so much more than just having fun. In addition, friends play an important role not only during your exchange year, but also in your life. I met quite a lot of people from different nations, and have developed strong connections and relations with some of them. Friends you meet in a foreign country can be powerful and supportive when you have difficulties, so don't be shy, try to make new friends. But remember, it is never about the quantity, but the quality. I understand the fear most students have when going abroad, and some of them may encounter hard situations that made them unhappy. But this coming year, is the perfect chance for each of us to learn how to stand on our own, it can be tough, the process might not be pleasant, but you will become so much stronger when you overcome every challenge. When you're in despair, you'll have the potential to be pleasantly surprised. Stay positive, stay strong, don't be afraid of reaching out for help, and enjoy your time while in exchange. (283字)
