(一)基本資料

The school of my junior abroad is Brandon University. It located in Winnipeg—the city of Manitoba, Canada. The whole study abroad program length eight months, from September 11th, 2017 to April 23rd., 2018. The first session in my junior abroad as a visiting student, I studied in the EAP(English for academic purpose) program. Follow in the second semester; I took only nine credits classes in total: Nineteenth-century British novel, Twenty-century literature, and Creative writing. Each of them worth three credits which means three hours class per week. (87字)

My first sessional class in Brandon were all under the EAP program. Therefore, my everyday class touches on four kinds of English abilities practice for the following course in regular class. I'm in the level four (the highest level in the program. Start from level one) class. My two EAP teachers not only use the teaching method of the way they teach Canadian students when they are in high schools but they also let us know everything we need to know before enrolling the regular session and brought us to some couple field trip to experience the life in Canada. The only drawback I'd say about this EAP program is that no matter which level you are put into, you will only need to study for a semester and enroll in the regular class in the second session. Some students from Tamkang might not take this EAP program seriously since because the credits we earn in the EAP program doesn't count in our home University credits. Another thing would be because they are not at a higher level; therefore, the teaching material in their classes might not be the utility of their following courses. While other students who are not from Tamkang, strive hard to pass the level exam, our students might behave a bit idle. In the second semester, I enrolled as an English primary visiting student; I took creative writing, twenty-century literature, and the nineteen-century British novel. The major is under the Art department, where professors are generally strict at marking grades. Two of my classes are for the second years student, the workload and the teaching materials compare with the first year class has a huge difference. The nineteenth-century class we have to read six novels in a semester. To be frank, it's a tremendous challenge to me. Not only does I need to keep looking up words I don't know, but also try to understand the implication of the narrative. All of my assignments and quiz are not so well; I even got a D on my term paper. Nevertheless, my least favourite class of all is the one I learned the most. From the low marks of my assignments and quiz, I somehow learn to face my problem in every paper instead of the score. I do appreciate my professor in this class gives us as many suggestions as possible. One of the significant issues which I've been pointed out by my professor for nearly everytime is that my paper always lacks my argument and see the novel in a somewhat more profound way. I did, however, mark down these drawbacks and tried hard to avoid in my final exam, I didn't get to see my final exam's grade, but I got a C- in my overall grade of the class. (466字)

學校校園、住宿、周邊環境簡介、或食衣住行方面等相關訊息。 The environment of Brandon University is chill and comfy. The faculty inside the school are all well-trained and willing for consulting. The temperature starts to drop on the Holloween. It can go all the way down to —27-degree Celsius during the winter. The snow last year falls from November to the nest year of April. The coldest time is when there is a strong wind kept blowing while the snow is still falling. Following by the time when the snow starts to melt. Otherwise, if it's only the snowflakes, then it's still bearable. But if you walk out during the storm day, you might have a high chance to feel that the wind blow shatters your body. The hottest day in Brandon stays up to 30 or 31 degree Celsius. However, since Canada is a somewhat dry environment, unlike Taiwan, overly warm and damp, it's much more comfortable. Sometimes they will have sleet (raining + snowing) when it's towards the end of the snowing season. I shared a room with another Tamkang student from Tamsui campus. Every room in Flora (female dorm) owns a sink. It really comes in handy when you need to go through your morning routine or get thirsty. The tap water is drinkable but only the cold one. If you live in their dorm, no matter which dorm you are in, the school will tied your residence fee together with a meal plan. Once you paied your residence fee, your student card will have a certain amount of money inside (premium: C$2100, value: C$1800) You are sort of force to spend every penny of money inside your card before the end of a semester. If you wish to refund the balance in your card, you have to wait until the semester finished which is not likely to get the money back, because once you pay for the next term residence fee, the new meal plan money will automatically added in your card and replace the old one. Because of the weather there, you will need a pair of winter gloves, a toque, scuf or a large winter jacket and boots. If you wish to save some money, thrift shop like MCC Brandon thrift shop is a nice place to visit. You can spend the less money to buy everything you want in the store. However, if you are not the vintage kind of person, Shoppers mall and Winners are other places to buy winter clothes. They have transit bus wandering in the town, if you are a more idle kind of person and have a super supportive financial background, you can also buy a second-hand car with your other friends like you. No matter the obstacle you are facing at the moment is school-related or everyday life, once you hold that killer idea, it will be much easier to solve the problem. What I mean the killer idea is the courage to make your first move. Indeed, issues can sometimes become things we want to dodge away and keep procrastinating. Other times, the problem could be nerve-wracking, but a man can be destroyed but not defeated. You are allowed to have some downtime to digest this problem or even weep over it, however, you should also know that once you've mourned for your failing grade, the next thing is not heading to the store and grab an ice-cream corn. The moment you are sad about something because you think it deserves a better result or treatment, then you will have an excellent start to think about why? What makes my professor fails me? In University like Brandon, professors will not only mark your paper but also provides LOADS of suggestion specifically on your assignment. Perhaps consider making an appointment with your professor and talk about your problem and how you can improve them. Another solution for school work is to book an appointment with their writing centre. It is one of a unique service at Brandon University. The writing assistant Joan (picture four) is the grammar assistant for students with every major. One thing needs to bear in mind is that this writing assistant only helps you check your technique mistakes such as subject-verb agreement, the coherent of your topic sentences, or whether or not your thesis statement is arguable and reasonable enough. With that being said, detail things like content related to your major she will not be able to know the accuracy. Nevertheless, students like us, English is not our first language, this service can profoundly help us learn a firm grammar and the preference for Canadian professor when it comes to academic writing. Suggestions for the future students: My suggestion and also the most crucial one is knows your purpose and be responsible. It's clear that this might be your only time to actually spend time and effort study in a foreign country like this, whether you choose to put travel or study in the first place, you should always shows your responsibilty to the thing you set as a goal. If you think travel is the most important thing for a visiting student, then learn and make the best of it from the traveling. If you know that you are after all a student and wish to devote yourself in schoolwork, then do it with all your heart, know that foreign country like Canada, the education system is not going to be exactly like Taiwan, most of the time you strive hard but the result aren't going to turns out sweet. You can feel shocked and devestated, but you should not give up trying. This time you got a C, next time you will get an B-. Even if you keep getting C through out the whole semester, at least you hold on your grade, and until then you will realise marks are not the vital, what matters the most is the problem you make in your first paper did you learn from it and try to avoid in your next assignment. If you already know this might going to be your one and only chance to study abroad, you won't allow yourself sit indoors everyday and do nothing but playing online games and mourning. Try not to leave any regrates because you have an accountability of your life. (277字)

(六)其他

One of the memorable things to document is that I went to a Black Friday Arty Crafty in Brandon Art Gallery and met an artist whose name is Taile. At first, it's just me following her on the social media, but then, I don't even know how did I become so brave and bold, out of no where, I one day message her saying I'm having a wekk break in the university and wish to go to Winnipeg for two days, if it's possible for me to stay over for a night at her place? And our new friendship with her and people around her begins. I expirence a day of her life. How a local person spends her whole whole life in this arty city lives her everyday. Hnoestly, words cannot even brings how grateful I am to her, by letting me stay and brings me to her little part of life. It is such a heart-warming thing to do to a traveling overseas like me, makes me feels safe and provides tons of love to me. (178字)
