(Academic Korean) First, I wanted to say thank you to EWHA Language Center for preparing such well-prepared Korean class for all of the exchange students. Although it is a free lecture course, teachers are still patient and nice to every student. For the person who hasn’t study Korean before, it is really tough to adapt to this unfamiliar country. At the very first beginning, it is hard to memorize all the Hangul and the vocabularies but till now, I can not only just speak Korean, but also read Korean! Isn’t it crazy? I still can’t believe I can order foods and go shopping without using English but Korean. While learning experiences outside the classroom, I try to talk with Koreans, using the words I learn in class, starting to watch dramas, TV shows, which can improve my Korean speaking and listening skills. I found the importance of studying Korean and it also makes me feel a sense of accomplishment. It changes my stereotype of what I felt about Korea. In the first place, I’m the kind person who was not interesting in Korea culture not to mention the language in Korea. However, through this exchange program, I improved a lot in my Korean language skills and knew lots of friends. It opened my passion to this splendid country. In addition to this Korean language program, which stands for every Monday to Thursday, 8 am to 10:45 am. Each week of the class will have two different teachers, with their help I started to love Korean in all of my heart. What’s more, in this course, I met lots of classmates from different countries. We became friends and help each other not only midterms but also finals. I absorbed lots of knowledge which beyond my expectation and I believe this will help in my further future. (308字)

(三)生活環境

Ewha Womans University is a well-known tourist attraction among every traveler. Apparently, you can see there will have different people from different counties around the world visiting our campus to take pictures daily. As you can see in the picture I give, our campus is really big and elegant. ECC, one of the famous building in front of the main gate, with an unusual design that makes underground seem like overground, selected through the International Design Competition in February 2004. With this significant, unique structure in Ewha is the reason why is one of the dream list for tourists to visit. Speaking of the life in Korea, we have two different dorms. One is I-House, which is the international dormitory for students who study overseas. The other one is E-house, which is for current Korean student who studies in Ewha. As for me, I lived in I-House, which is not far away from the Ewha subway station, it just cost about 7 minutes by foot. Moreover, the area around Ewha is the famous spot for every younger generation, such as Sinchon and Hongdae, varieties of shopping centers, cosmetics brands, restaurants…etc are all in these three areas. The four distinct seasons in Korea is also spectacular. When it comes to spring, full of pinkish cherry blossoms are everywhere on the streets. I highly recommend to go Jeju at spring too, not only cherry blossoms there are famous but the yellow rapeseed flowers are also lovely to visit. Next, summer is also hot like the temperature in Taiwan, people here enjoyed eating cold noodles and ice creams to enjoy this blazing summer. Autumn in Seoul is better than I thought. The weather is nice and cool. The leaves started to turn into red, yellow and brown. Don’t need to mention how beautiful it is. Finally, winter in Korea is as cold as the weather I can’t expect. It turns into about -14 degrees Celsius! It is not just snowy but dry as well. (332字)

(四)自我成長

As I have answered in the previous questions, this is my first time studying in Korea. It is really tough to adapt to this unfamiliar country. The language and the culture are nearly different, but for the sake of leaving here, I tried my best to learn Korean and adapt the culture difference. In my point of view, the students in Ewha are all brave and independent. They try their best to do everything. The homework which they got from every class they will do with all of their heart. To be honest, I felt a lot of stress in the first midterm exam because of Korean’s education and study atmosphere gives the students pressures, they study every day in the library and cafes, not just at the exam week. Nevertheless, as an exchange student, not only studies are important but experiencing local culture is also meaningful. So I started my goal of trying to fulfill the way I live in Korea. Therefore, thanks to the “PEACE Buddy” program in Ewha, which is stands for helping the international students to adjust to the lifestyle in both Ewha and Seoul. Every exchange student will have their own buddy and if you have any questions they will help you as soon as possible. Ewha PEACE Buddy also held lots of different kind of activities to let international students experience Korea traditional culture, for instance, Farm experience, Movie day and so on. Besides that, friends are also an important role in my exchange life. I met lots of friends. We hang out together, when I need help they always tried their best to help me as well. I’m so glad I met them in Korea. If I am not an exchange student in Ewha I couldn’t have met these lovely guys I loved. (303字)

(五)大三出國建議

Despite the fact that there is a variety of English taught courses in Ewha, but the limit number for every international student depends on different classes. Thus, if you didn’t get your course which you really wanted to attend, you can try to go to the class personally and tell the professor to help you add to that course. Actually, every professor will love to help you if the class is not too crowded. Furthermore, the participation in Korea is really important, so when the class starts professor will start to take attendance. If you come to the class late about three times, it will count as one absence. Plus, five absences will affect your own grades. So if you can try not to be absent please don’t. In addition, the study atmosphere in Korea might may you feel a little bit stressed. Try to do as best as you can, don’t give yourself to much pressure. Last but not least, since you come to Korea for your one-year exchange, why not going outside of Seoul to visit a distinctive Korea? Such as Busan, Jeju, Sokcho, Yangyang, Daegu and so on. Furthermore, I need to suggest all of you to download navermap or either kakaomap. The google map which you are all familiar of cannot use in Korea because Korea government refused to give the map destinations to google. So instead of using google map, navermap and kakaomap will be your right choice to travel in Korea. Enjoy your one year exchange in Korea. I hope you will like it just like I do. (267字)

(六)其他

The life in Korea was not as tough as I thought. Because of the lifestyle in Seoul is similar compared to Taipei. Except for the language and cuisine's differences. Overall, I learned lots of experiences, not just only focuses on the books I have learned but in the real life. Thus, my values in life changes. If it were not for being an exchange student, I cannot learn these experiences. I am touched by the feminism in Ewha through the Me Too movement, and the pressure from the reality. It totally changed my way of thinking of life. As an exchange student, wanted to let people know more about Taiwan, I courage myself to sign up for the Ewha Exchange Student Abroad Fair, which can tell other students about Taiwan’s cultures and my own home university. Finally, I wanted to say thank you to Tamkang University for giving me this wonderful opportunity to sent me to Ewha. These abundant experiences improve me and change me. Thank you. (168字)
