My favourite course is professional wine. This is an entirely new field for me.I did not have any wine knowledge at all before I took this course. Adelaide is in the southern part of Australia. It is also a fantastic wine producing area. Barossa valley and Adelaide Hill are the majorly two big wine regions there. I still remembered how nervous I was when first time I was in the class. Professor Jane wanted everyone to tell her one kind of grapes variety. My Australian classmates all have known some knowledge of wine as it's part of their life. In order to follow up their path, I previewed the ppt first before I went to the class. After three to four weeks, I became more confident and was capable of answering some questions. I tasted five to six different types of wine every week. In the class, we looked the wine first to describe the clarity, the colour, and the intensity. The second step, we smelled the wine to describe its aroma, and intensity. The third step, we drank a sip to describe the flavuor, acidity, body, complexity, the level of alcohol, tannin, and sweetness. The last step, we made a conclusion of the wine quality to evaluate the balance, length, intensity and complexity. Honestly, at the beginning, I didn’t understand a lot of terms to describe wine, and my palate was not so sensitive as I did not have enough experiences. However, after a period of time, my realization to wine is that “ Wine is an art to people. Art can be either cheap or expensive. It depends on who admires it. People use the words to package the ordinary wine so that it becomes out of ordinary.” This course really helps me a lot. Now I work in five-star hotel. Because of these knowledge, I can professionally answer some questions to customers. For example, when some customers want me to introduce some light- bodied white wine, I can easily tell them Riesling. (336字)

I lived on campus in Adelaide. The life is quite simple and pure. My school also provided us with good meals, housekeeping, and a very cozy room. I had three roommates who are from Malaysia, Philippines, and Taiwan. Ann was my close roommate in school. We shared everything with each other. But, in Taiwan, although we were classmates, we were not familiar with each other. It is really unbelievable for us to have the relationship that we did not think before. We decided to go to Sydney to do our placement. Therefore, during the interviews and house searching, we almost became sisters who had the same worry, same topics to talk. We also decided to live separately because our hotels are not so close. Both of us did not get recruited at the first beginning but kept waiting for the results until the end. It was really tough time because everything was unstable and unsure. We could not find our house, book our air tickets, and maybe we could not do our internship in Sydney because we still had not had jobs. One week before our semester finished, we got recruited, but everything should be settled down in one week. After I moved to Sydney, a lot of challenges came to me. I did not know living in Sydney is so expensive. Rental fees, food costs, transportation fees are three major expenses. Luckily, now I rent a private room in suburb with really reasonable price. The landlord treats me well. He provides me everything, including pillows and quilts which are not common to be provided in Sydney. And this rental place is around 13- minute walk to train station and grocery stores. It takes me around 40 minutes to work every day. My transportation fees is around 8 dollars per day. (299字)

My department dose not have many international coworkers. My colleagues are mostly the local. At the beginning, in a lot of aspects, it really took time to get along with them. Language was my initial problem as they spoke so fast. There were plenty of new and professional words I needed to learn from them, such as, chafing dishes, tea chest, annex, lazy susan, and abundant food names. I still remembered my first mission is to sort the food labels at the first day of work. It was easy for Australian but it was hard for me as it is not my food culture. I kept asking my colleagues at that time. They were nice but they did not understand my feeling because they are Australian. After work, I took train alone, walked back to my home alone, cooked alone, ate alone, and did house work alone. No body helped me or talked to me. Half year ago, I studied in Adelaide but I did not have strong feeling of loneliness as I still had familiar friends to explore the new city and to share our feelings. However, this time, I really experienced different life and finally stepped out of my comfort zone. Maybe it is the process of growing. Sydney is a city that I can see all kinds of social life. In order to live in the city, everyone needs to work hard. The speed of foot path in CBD is really fast. People are less sympathetic but more protective towards themselves. (254字)

My advice is to prepare yourself well and to adjust your attitude to your study and work. ICHM is the school that you will not regret choosing and will become more independent, more mature, more self-disciplined,and more punctual. Industry placement is the major backstage driving force for you to grow sharply. And during this short year, studying, playing , and working are all really important things but just remember to make a balance of them. My suggestion for you is “ Study hard, play hard, and work smart. Adelaide is a really cozy city. If you want to experience really competitive feeling and fast walking path in CBD. Sydney is definitely a good choice for you. In our hospitality industry, it is common that you need to take the first train or last train to work or back home. You will not feel alone on the train for sure. A lot of people work at the early morning or late night as you. Most of people live in suburb. They commute every day to CBD to work. One-hour commuting time is reasonable. When my friends who are currently doing their placement in the other cities travelled to Sydney, they all told me people are unfriendly and do not look happy here. I told them maybe it is the truth but that is because they really need to earn hard to support their life here. I think it is a good experience for me as having pressure makes me grow fast. Hope you choose the right city that is suitable to you and write the next magnificent page of your life for yourselves. “ Make the rocks on the path become steppingstones, not obstacles.” (281字)
