2018大三出國輔導通報系統 - 留學心得報告[編輯]

(一)基本資料

I studied in William Angliss Institute in Melbourne Australia from July 2018 to May 2019. The courses I took were fundamental knowledge of resort and hotel, food and beverage operation room division and last but not least fundamental academic communication.(38字)

(二)課程學習

The most impressive course I took was food and beverage operation, both tutoring course and operating course are interesting and beneficial. We learned some knowledge about how coffee is made, what the formula is regarding different kinds of coffee, how a professional wine servant serve wine and etc. in tutoring course. As for the operating course, we were running a restaurant called Angliss restaurant, which is a fully function restaurant that run by students studying at William Angliss Institute, for the purpose that all students could get as idea of what it is like to be working in a high class restaurant. We learned hoe to do both a la carte and function style. The whole class members had divided in to small groups that consist of 3 to 4 people, and we took turns to be manager team of certain night, when you are the managers of the night, you have to learn solve the upcoming problems that customers might have, and allocate all the jobs to classmate. It means try to operate the restaurant's front of house including the bar area by ourselves, make itruns smoothly and creates the best memories for those who choose to dine in Angliss restaurant. And of course the teacher of the operating course - Kylie Sweetman were there to guide and assist us, she used to work in high end restaurant before teaching in William Angliss Institute, so she is very professional at this. The result I got from this course was amazing, it is definitely not an common experience and I have learned so much more than what is written on the textbook. Personally thinks that when you make a mistake in the reality, it is easier to take it as a lesson and grow from your personal experience.(296字)

(三)生活環境

William Angliss Institute is located in Melbourne city, near to Flagstaff train station, since it is situated in the city, the campus is not as big as other university like Melbourne university, there are only several buildings in William Angliss Institute, it is easy to find classroom. Overall, it is convenient and the professors of the course I took are very all friendly and welcoming. Some know that we are international students, and take good care of us because he/she knows that i is not easy to adapt everything in a foreign country. I moved three times in total during studying in Melbourne, the first place was recommended and introduced by I.S. Education office, after a month my roommate and I decided to move to the ciy so it is more convenient. Melbourne city is a city that does not have many tourist destinations, but it is a city rich in art and culture, you can see artists and performers everywhere in the city, which is different compared to Taiwan. I was surprised by the amount of people performing on street when I first came to Melbourne, and what surprised me more was they would still be there performing even when the weather is bad. The weather in Melbourne is hard to predict and very extreme, sometimes the temperature drops dramatically after a rain, also the summer in Melbourne is relatively short, the summer heat was not a joke, it feels like staying in an oven and a huge blow dryer is turned on as well.(258字)

(四)自我成長

One of the difficulties I encountered when studying in William Angliss Institute is referencing. Referencing to me is something I am very unfamiliar with, because in Tamkung University, it is not necessary to write referencing in APA form. Although I had learned it in fundamental of communication course, but just as the professor said, it takes a great amount of practice to get zero errors, because it is complex. When you use in text reference to refer to someone else’s words, you have to rephrase it. This is another difficulty I faced when I was writing the assignments, because it is not how I write assignment in Tamkung University, professor said you should use an example like a story or statement and then linked it to the point your article is about. Other than those difficulties, I faced while completing schoolwork, something I do not get used to is the idiom and the wording in Australia is different. Sometimes I do not get what people is saying, and that I thought would not be a big problem, but then I found out I do have to guess what the words are, what are they trying to say, it does affect me in a way that I do not feel super comfortable to speak in English. Which really influence the confidence I have to when finding a job and promoting myself in a bad way, thankfully, I have been improving myself and hoping the situation would be better the next time.(251字)

(五)大三出國建議

The academic courses in William Angliss Institute are useful and beneficial, it focus on both academic knowledge and practical knowledge of this industry, and the teachers are all really nice as well. They try their best to make the teaching material easy for us to understand, and also care about our lives as an international student, how well do we adapt to this new environment and such, it was very heart warming. However, the second semester you will have to get a hospitality job, and from my personal experience it was not easy at all, the reason for that is they want people with experience in Australia, so whatever part-time job you did in Taiwan, it does not count as approved experience here in Melbourne. Another thing is some of them are recruiting permanent position or don’t take student visa, for those kind of jobs, I recommend you just look pass them, don’t even bother to apply one. Last important thing when talking to getting a job is season, which is before Christmas and Chinese New Year. It is the best season you would likely to get a job, because lots of foreign employees are going back to their countries, after the season it is really hard to get a job, people are getting less hours to work so naturally they do not need any more employees. As for accommodation, apartments are not cheap in the city, but you could always find some nice place in chatroom for renting places in Melbourne. As a William Angliss Institute student, we cannot buy confession transportation pass, which is very inconvenient and expensive, so that’s why we choose to live in free tram zone.(284字)
