(一)基本資料

I study at University of Warsaw in Poland. Warsaw is the capital and largest city of Poland. I stay in Poland from September 4th, 2018 to July 27th, 2019. Most of the courses I took are from Faculty of Geography and Regional Studies and I took Polish Language in the first semester as well.(52字)

My favorite class among all the classes I choose is Polish Language class. The very first thing I noticed after arriving in Poland is that Polish people can barely speak English. In order to understand them a little bit, I have no choice but to learn polish. Frankly speaking, I am not good at learning new languages due to my poor memory. In addition, the most surprising thing for me is that the professor teaches us polish in polish. I think I will not be able to keep up in class undoubtedly. However, the professor uses an interesting way to teach us which makes me feel easeful when learning it. First of all, the professor emphasizes interaction so much. She will make sure that everyone in class has chances to speak. After all, the key point to learn a new language is to keep talking and practice its pronunciation. She encourages us that no matter we pronounce it right or not, just speak it out bravely. Secondly, she will pair each of us randomly so that we will have more opportunities to practice polish with our partner. Every week we will have different partner so we almost have spoken to every person in the class. It is such a good chance to make international friends. Last but not least, the professor will let us play ‘’Kahoot’’ based on the materials she has taught us last week. Anyone who has top three highest score can get extra points of this class. She uses these sorts of way to inspire us of learning polish, for polish is hard to learn. Its grammar is really complicated. Nevertheless, whenever I can actually read some polish in the grocery store or buy things in polish, I feel I make progress gradually and it is really fulfilling and satisfying to me. Accordingly, I strongly recommend those who are going to study in UW take this course which is taught by Anna Dudek!(326字)

(三)生活環境

The school dormitory is only provided for the exchange students so I contacted senior sisters and live in the flat where they used to live. The flat has two floors and there are ten flatmates living in this flat. Everyone has their own room, but we share the kitchens and the bathrooms. There are two kitchens and four bathrooms in total, so it is quite enough for all. My flatmates are from many different countries, such as Cuba, Turkey, Iraq, Thailand and so on. It is such a good chance to make more international friends, too. Moreover, they will give you a hand whenever you are in need which I am really grateful for. The place I live is very convenient. It will only take you few minutes to the bus stop or tram station. And there are several supermarkets nearby. It takes around 20 to 30 minutes to the city center or the university (main campus). Also, it is a peaceful neighborhood that I really like it. Additionally, using bank card to pay everything is very popular here. It is really convenient that you do not need to bring the cash and a lot of change with you. And the cost of living in Poland is similar to Taiwan, so if you want to save a lot of money during your junior abroad year, Poland is the great choice for you. As for the weather, I am so not used to the cold the first few months when I arrived. According to polish locals, the winter this year is especially warm compared to last year. The small tip of wearing clothes is to put on so many layers instead of wearing one thick sweater since there are heaters everywhere during winter time. So, it will be too hot to dress too much when you are indoors.(305字)

(四)自我成長

This is my first time to leave home for such a long time. And during this period, I have to learn to be strong and independent. Several months ago, I encountered the biggest difficulty I had during my abroad year. One day after school, I took the tram back home as usual. I saw there are myriads of people on the tram at that time so I put my phone in my backpack in case I dropped it. I was holding on my hand originally. I was talking with my friend happily in the tram and suddenly I asked my friend who was behind me, for I felt like there was a person keep crowding me although it was truly crowded in the tram. My friend told me there was a tall guy behind me and I was not suspicious then, but felt annoying. Before long, after I reached home, I found my bag was opened and I could not find my phone either. I was panic and frustrated and the tears fell down continually. Few minutes later, I realized that crying could not solve anything, so I started to think calmly. I decided to go to the police station real soon and reported everything to the police. However, because I am a foreigner, I could not report the case until the assigned translator came. Hopefully, I finally reported the case successfully for the fourth time in a row. I then went to buy a new phone and dealt with the bank and internet problems step by step. Everything is on track gradually afterwards. What I learned from this event is that many unexpected things may happen in our abroad year, but as long as to face the difficulties calmly, everything will be fine eventually. So, do not be afraid!(300字)

(五)大三出國建議

First and foremost, the way of teaching between Taiwan and Poland is very different. Most of the professors put emphasis on the interaction in class. They want you to speak and express your ideas more in class. In the meantime, you will hear so many different thoughts from other international students, too. As a consequence, it is better to practice speaking in class or in public before going abroad. Second, do not be shy to talk with people! There are several events for Erasmus students held by UW every week. It is a golden chance to make international friends actively. You can learn more about the culture of their countries more and they will give you some recommendations when traveling to their countries, such as the good food, great tourist attractions…etc. Also, exchanging travel experiences is fun as well. Third, I think it is important to make at least one polish friend, for many people in Warsaw can not really speak English. And once you encounter some problems, you can ask your polish friend for help and be the translator. In that case, you will be less worried and stressful when facing the problems. The abroad year will surely make you grow and become a braver person. You have to seize this precious opportunity to broaden your horizon. There are many unforgettable things will happen along the way. So, be open-minded and experience the brand new life during this year!(241字)
