2018大三出國輔導通報系統 - 留學心得報告[編輯]

(一)基本資料

During my junior abroad year, I was studying in Australia, Brisbane, University of Queensland. UQ has its campuses and facilities throughout Queensland. Furthermore, UQ is ranked in the top 50th of the most reputable university in the world. (38字)

(二)課程學習

In each semester there are tons of courses for international students to choose, however, we can only choose a maximum of five courses and a minimum of three courses. First of all, each course has to choose a class of tutorial and lecture, participation is needed and so does home works and exams. In my first semester, I've chosen three courses, includes Chinese>English Translation, Communication Skills, and Writing for International Students. If I have to say, my favorite course is " Chinese to English Translation". This course is not only to train your English ability, but it also improves your ability to translate. Not to mention the heavy practice that it takes, this course added some entertainment activities such as translating a Chinese movie or playing Kahoot games in class. When it comes to my second semester, my chosen courses include Japanese, Spanish, Health & Fitness Through Diet & Exercise, and The Science of Everyday Thinking. As a curious person of foreign languages, I've challenged myself to learn both Japanese and Spanish. To be honest, it's not easy for me to learn two foreign languages at the same time but it is my pleasure to get to know these languages and their culture. I could tell that my passion grew harder and stronger into these foreign languages. However, what I like the most is that, in UQ, the teachers here have such passion and energy to teach the student in many different ways just to make sure that every student can learn well and absorb a lot of knowledge. They tend to train our critical thinking, academic, and development. In addition, students here work in teams and groups, classmates in my classes will study together and giving each other opinions. It is not only a way to make new friends but a chance to express your thoughts. (305字)

(三)生活環境

As from the name of itself, UQ is indeed located in Queensland's capital city, Brisbane. Talking about Brisbane, it is a livable place. Most of the citizens are friendly, optimistic and full of energy. There are also plenty of green spaces in the city. The campus occupies much of the riverside inner suburb of St Lucia. So you can either take the bus or ferry to the uni. UQ has been famous for its beautiful and magnificent buildings, the most special one among all is the Great Court. It is the heart of The University of Queensland’s St Lucia campus. Its inviting lawn, historical buildings, and quirky sandstone carvings have made the Great Court a popular meeting place for decades. Not only its a place for meeting, sometimes there will have activities and dining cars to help express student's pressure. Moreover, the school will hold festivals of different cultures in different countries so that students can experience diverse cultures. Students who come to study at UQ have tons of places to chose to live. For me, I've rented a room from a dormitory opened by a private company, called Unilodge. This dormitory is located inside the land of the uni, so it only takes me five to ten minute to walk to my classes. And About 750 meters away from my dormitory there is a market place with restaurants and a hypermarket. If you take the bus it will take you 30 to 40 minutes to go to the city. Honestly, it is really convenient to live around the uni. If you are the ones that love the sunshine and heats, Australia will be your best choice, because Australia is a warm climate all year round. (四)自我成長

When I first came to Australia, I didn't experience too much culture shock. The price of Australia is more expensive than that of Taiwan, and it is not as convenient as Taiwan. The people here are very polite. Saying "thank you" and "excuse me" is the most basic etiquette in Australia. Of course, you have to politely return to each other a "no worries". Even when you take the bus, the driver will say hello to you. Everyone will say thank you to the driver when you get off the bus. I think this kind of public courtesy is lacking in Taiwan. During school time, I believe UQ's education style differs from Taiwan's universities. Not only does UQ have two different modes of education, but it also includes self-growth learning. Also, the stores in Australia closes earlier than Taiwan. Around 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., the stores will be closed and the only place left to go are the bars and nightclubs. However, whether it's historical landmarks, different shopping malls, bars, and art and music venues, Brisbane is a great place to live. And I must say that if I had to choose to live, I would choose Australia, not Taiwan. (201字)

(五)大三出國建議

For those who want to study in Australia, your family must have the ability to afford the expensive tuition of UQ. Besides, it is important to have a passion to study and learn. Compared with other English-speaking countries, Australia's location is closest to Taiwan, and the time zone is more consistent with Taiwan, only two hours apart. Australia actually has a lot of accommodation options, but it is recommended to choose to live in a student dormitory not far from the school, which not only reduces the commute time but also has more shops nearby. When you are in class, don't be afraid to raise your hand and ask questions. In fact, many foreign students are brave enough to speak, so you can learn more from them. Australians are very kind, and smiling at each other is their basic etiquette. You can chat with them a few times to improve your English conversation practice. I think that the joy of learning is indispensable. Although the school is busy, it is still possible to travel to other cities in Australia during the holidays, such as Sydney and Melbourne. Two places are worth visiting. There are also plenty of places in Brisbane to trample on you, the weekend market and the monthly multicultural festivals that will make you feel the cultural atmosphere and history of the place. Since you have been abroad for a year, don't waste precious time and enjoy living abroad.(241字)
