(二)課程學習

My first impression on World polistic. I still remembered the first day of class, the teacher asked everyone why we wanted to learn this course. Someone learns it is for interest, someone learns it is for the future plan, someone learns it is for traveling and others learn it are just for the curiosity. My teacher is Dr, Sternfeild. I love her teaching methods. She teaches us just like we are an adult that we need to responsible for ourselves. Mostly before a new lecture start, teacher will make us into group depends on the news you get and then you need to share with your classmate that what you see in the news, or are there any relations with the course? By the way, teacher will pick up one news among four she chosed and you need to read it before going to the class, but u will just have one news instead of four. Those four will be the question in the quiz. So then, after sharing with each other, she’ll seperate us into another different group, this time you’re going to said your story outlaid to share with your classmates, and both written down the notes of other classmate’s news. This was so impressed that, I think I really improved my speaking through this small activity little by little, and listening as well. Moreover, the whole class has about forty students. Teacher was so nice and hard working that she can actually call out everyone’s name. After I learned world polistic, I found that actually every countries are tightly bonding with each other; though I really hate polistic, and politic is kind of hard to me, but fortunately, I met a friend in that class, she’s an international student who come from London, she’s major in polistic, and she really did help me a lot in the course, including the test, final project and the lecture I don’t understand. (三)生活環境

Indiana University of Pennsylvania is a beautiful and lovely university, though its located in the most boring indiana city. As an international student in IUP, it is request to live in campus and buy meal plans for the cafeteria in campus. I still remembered one thing is very important to every IUP students when they first day come to the university, which is Icard; it includes meal plans, access for residential building and the room, cash for the laundry and the public transportation. For the eating part, I have about 14 meal plans for per week. At first , it was so nice to have all the things like buffet, it’s probably all you can eat in the cafeteria, but couple months after, your probably start tired of it, so I miss Taiwanese food so much. most of the dishes in cafeteria are burger, sausage, pancake or french fries, which is so in american type, but there’s still some other options, there’s always a part serving shushi, though it’s not as good as the restaurant and it’s kind of different, but it’s still more fresh than other kinds of american food. As the rule, we are not allowed to cook in the room, but most of Taiwanese students still have a small cooker in our room, sometimes we can still buy some vegetables or food come back to cook in our style. In living part, girls and boys are living in the same residential building, we do not live separately. It is quite convenient that there are laundry room, study room, pool table, computer lab, kitchen, lounge and convenient store in the residential hall. The most annoying thing to me is the fire alarm; once the smoke was detected by the machine even its the popcorn in the microwave, whole building’s fire alarm will start and it has very loud noise, everyone should go outside of the building even if it is snowy or is happening at midnight. The environment around the campus, there are just a few restaurants and some bars. We don’t have many choices for shopping in town, we have to drive about one hour to Pittsburgh. In my opinion, for locals in Indiana, the living environment is quite good, but if it is for those whom only stay for short-term like us, it is not so convenient compared with other university. In the weather part, from August to about October, the weather in Indiana is cool but to some people may feel little bit cold; from November to the next May, it is the coldest time in Pennsylvania. Till the time we are about to leave the weather is just getting warmer. (452字)

(四)自我成長

Most of thing are good and I do not have the problem of adaptation. Most of college students in the US, they all know what is the next step after their college life. But I’m still lost. I’ve see some of my friends in the US, they are learning more than one specialty, which means they have at least two majors, and they can combine all of specialties and can have more opportunities in the future. And it makes me remember that my father had told me that I could learn one more specialty and combine all of them into your strength. After I came to the US, I found that it’s right that not most but some of the people are fat, mostly because of the food they ate, but though they’re fat, for boys they still look neat and confidence. For girls, i did see lots of difference between American and Taiwanese, most of American girls are so confidence with themselves, they are neat and they dressed up themselves very well, no matter they are fat or not. They’re still lots of big girls wearing short T-shirt that hardly do cover her belly. The other one was teaching environment. Most students in Taiwan only get knowledge from what professor said, we do not have personal doubts on anything; in other words, the passion of learning was already gone long time ago since the broken educational system. We were in university because of the social pressure, not because we considered our future and made an appropriate decision, while lot’s of american college students, some of them had already get married or even had kids, they come back to college, cause they feels it’s necessary for themselves, so that the American students they would have strong enthusiasm to their major and relation to the college, which also means they choose to get into the university since they desire to pave the way for their tomorrow instead of wasting time and money.(338字)

(五)大三出國建議

If anyone wants to go to Indiana University of Pennsylvania, there are some suggestions. Firstly of all, the weather in Indiana is much colder than Taiwan, especially from November to May. You do not need to bring a lot of summer clothes from Taiwan; you can just bring winter clothes and prepare a pair of boots, which is necessary for everyone. Secondly, students who live in dorm are not allowed to cook in the room. There is only a microwave and a refrigerator in the room. But there is a kitchen at the ground floor of the dorm, you just need to swipe your icard and then you can use the kitchen. And last but not least, about the course that you can take in IUP; there are many choices, as a international student, we can choose most of courses we want except some specific courses. We do not have full courses in a week, so we got ots of time to hangout with others or workout or even work in the cafeteria.(173字)
