(一)基本資料

Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) is located rural mountain of Beppu City, Oita Prefecture, Kyushu Area. My exchange term starts from September 12th of 2018 until the late end of July 2019. The classes I've been taking are Japanese Political Economy, International Law and Peace Studies and also Japanese Language.(48字)

I honestly enjoyed taking several classes here and I found it difficult to decide which class won the title of the class I like the most. If I really have to pick one, I would say the Advanced English lectured by Paul Sevigny class became my memorable class. The English class was targeted to develop the English expression that we had English debate two times for everyone. The class taught me how to write a correct executive summary and trained me on how to write a better article. The class basically gave full instruction of how to prepare and perform an English debate that I have never experienced before. The professor is just like our close friends and encouraged us to give feedback during the class; our participation takes up a certain percentage of the semester score. At the beginning of the class I heard that we will organize a debate against other classes, I felt uneasy since I was never in a debate with others, not to mention in English with foreign students. From day to day the Professor guided us from gathering correct or reliable resources to back up our ideas, to select the most fluent words and sentences that fit into the exact emotions when debating. I could never think of that the ending of the class; I become one of the three best debaters in our class that we had a campus level debate against another class, in the end, our team won the debate over the topic of "Should Japan abolish Capital Punishment?". For the students who wish to proficient their English expression and also grammar skills, I would suggest taking the Advanced English class since it helps a lot in proficient English ability. Advanced English 2A class welcomes students with CEFR B2 levels. Before my writing score in IELTS was only 5.0 (My overall score was 6.0), I think this class would help me a lot next time when I take again the IELTS. Advanced English 2A class is also the highest level of English class you can take in APU. (345字)

(三)生活環境

People say APU is similar to Lanyang Campus due to its location. APU is located in rural area where the prefecture is famous for hot springs. Beppu city is voted second place for best hot spring in Japan by the Japanese. APU is also built up on the hill where our dormitory is at downtown, we exchange students take buses to commute to school every school day. The campus is around two to three times larger than Lanyang campus and the APU is more internationalized in terms of infrastructures and services. Outside the APU is a very traditional countryside of Japan where people merely speak English. I think our dormitory is the best among all students who went abroad from Lanyang campus; we have single room only with our own fridge and shower room! The shower room even have its own bathtub and bed sheets changing services! Not to mention your own balcony. Since Japan's living cost is more expensive, to enjoy really good food of Japan, I usually cook for most of time and dining out somewhere nice only in the weekend. So far, I have only seen once snowing in Beppu, most of the time the weather before winter felt just like Taiwan. The transportation service in Japan is WAY too expensive that takes up a lot of shares every time we commute or travel, I recommend to get a bus pass in Beppu city since you would not only use the bus to commute school only, sometimes when I felt lazy (or you may say most of the time) I would use the bus service to move around in the city such as go shopping at supermarket; especially when it rains, you would appreciate possessing a bus pass despite it’s only a five minute walk from previous stop. The bus services are inaccurate in Beppu, this may be out of surprise for everyone who thinks that Japanese are always prompt, this does not fit to the bus services here in Beppu and the times' bus delayed are more than scheduled. (四)自我成長

Due to the overall lacking ability of the English and personalities among the Japanese, the best strategy is to set up your own life here alone. The Japanese civil servants refused me and my friends one day as we went for applying document together. Ever since that, I tried to visit city hall alone, despite the lacking ability of Japanese; I got my documents handled efficiently. I think the Japanese people are more conservative in terms of their actions; they tend to rather refuse my request than understanding my explanations: This is a true story when I first trying to mail a package back to Taiwan. (The Mailing service refused to accept my package despite I showed them the purchase receipt of what it contains.) I was very lucky to get known a friend from Yemen, I would never thought of what are happening after becoming a friend with him. Mr. Farooq is a Graduate student and I firstly talked to him in a welcoming party activity of the dormitory for international students. Mr. Farooq and I both aren't the most active person among the new students, he is very modest and polite to everyone, yet to my surprise that he is the representative of the new APU graduates; he delivered a speech during the opening ceremony among all APU students, professors. Even now, he oftenly give me advices and share life experiences to help me outstands more. The experience tells me that we should learn and follow more from a friend that truly helps you progress rather than getting along with lots of friends yet actual growing is less. (270字)

(五)大三出國建議

For the people who wish to study in Japan, I would say it is a wise choice because you get to learn Japanese quickly, plus, it is a life-time useful language because Taiwan is so close to Japan; we defiantly will travel Japan in the future for more than one time, right? With the ability to speak Japanese makes you different from other tourists and you may learn more living habit and possess more knowledge of Japan. So far, I have done a lot of incredible things that people don't think what an exchange student could do within a year. I may be the first exchange student who takes the position in debating a campus-level debate, I may be the first exchange student with the identity of Teaching Assistant at the same time and I may be the first exchange student who rides sportsbike and travel over 10 something prefectures. I encourage every sophomore student to try all the chances given to you no matter of your exchange term is limited. You may only have one chance to do it. Don't be bother by the budget you have since you will earn even more as you graduate. Junior abroad program is a chance for us to learn how to do our best to put life together; if not do more than what a budget could do. Our life is short, yet our exchange program is even shorter, just act like what the main actor does in the movie "Yes Man": Never refuse the chance to do something because opportunities don't easily show up. Also, learn to be an independent individual during this program is important, it is just like a practice for your further career; one day you will have to work and live alone. If not necessary, try to maximize your stay in a foreign country and enjoy! Since you will never go back to a country with an identity of 'student'.(322字)
