2018大三出國輔導通報系統 - 留學心得報告[編輯]

(一)基本資料

The school I chose to go this year was Cal-state Long Beach. This city is located in Southern California, under Los Angeles. The courses I chose this year include Spanish, Geography, Feminism, Human Diversity in US, Imperial China, Surfing and American Culture, and American Government.(45字)

(二)課程學習

From the courses I took, my favorite course was Human Diversity in US. In California, there are people from different countries throughout the world. Besides, they gathered into a small area such as the early China town, K-town and little Tokyo. Most Chinese and Taiwanese nowadays gathering in Rowland Heights, San Gabriel and Hacienda. So basically you can taste the authentic cuisine of each country at any time. As an exchange student, I feel that I am very lucky to study in California. There are Yong-he soy milk, Ding Tai Feng and Haidilao and other hometown dishes. In addition, this class included a field trip. This is the first time I have deeply integrated into American classmates' daily life. It is really a unforgettable experience for me. We discussed our presentation of field at the dining hall trip after class, and meet up at school to carpool to K-town (Garden Grove)during weekend. There are four exams in the whole semester, including final exam and there are many extra works for bonus. The last day of class was our presentation of the field trip. The most different thing about studying in the United States was that in the US, students like to sit in front of the classroom and dare to speak and express their opinions. Once I was asked by the teacher to answer the question, since I am not sure of the answer, I answered quietly. Everyone seems strange, because they think that self-confidence is very important. Even if you don't know the correct answer, you should answer’ I don't know loudly’, because all classmates and teacher are willing to help you. In their culture, they don't need to be embarrassed while answering wrong. Frankly speaking, Taiwan's education was definitely not like this, we really should learn the United States system of education. (305字)

(三)生活環境

I live in Santa Fe springs, about sixteen miles from school. The reason I chose to live here is that the landlord is a Taiwanese and very kind. Besides, the community is really safe because there is a police office beside. The most important thing was that the landlord has a super cute husky. In terms of the campus, it was really big. There are fifteen parking lots for students not including the employers’. Thus, it takes about fifteen minutes to walk from the parking lot to the classroom. There are many convenience stores, vending machines and Starbucks on the way to classroom, so it is very convenient to buy breakfast at school. Concerning lunch, there are panda express(Chinese), sushi lunch box, pizza, fried chicken and subway at the dining hall, so there's no worries about being hungry. Although there are many foods at school, I still prefer to have a mini hot pot (Boiling Point) after school with my roommate. I strongly recommend this restaurant which is located at Cerritos (7miles from our school). However, getting weight is extremely easy in California, working out would be really important in this condition. There is a super large gym in our campus with all kinds of work out equipment, and it is free, you just need to bring your student ID.As for the weather in California, I can say that the weather in LA should be the best place I have ever been to. LA is located in the subtropical Mediterranean climate, so it is sunny all year round. It only rains in a few days, so people in Los Angeles don't know how to drive in rainy days is actually correct, because they are really not used to it. However, there are many car accidents during rainy days. The distinction between the four seasons is not so obvious, the spring and autumn are almost the same, the summer is warm and dry, and the winter is not too cold. In addition, since LA is always sunny, I always see people wearing sun glasses. (345字)

(四)自我成長

To be honest, I wasn’t satisfied when I first arrived in California because I met a not-friendly Philippine landlord. My room is right next to the front entrance, so everyone can see inside, there is no privacy, just like the security office. I have told the landlord but I didn't get a response from her, and the light wasn’t working all the time, so once the sunset, I need to use my flashlight to illuminate the room... In addition, the landlord did not let me to turn on the ac, she told me to go to stay at the balcony if I feel hot….it is extremely ridiculous. After a week, I decided to cancel the contract and move out. After that, I found another apartment at Long beach. However, they gave me a contract with a wrong amount of rent. I had told them to correct it, they told me that they know the contract was wrong, but it is fine, just go ahead and sign…. All I can say is that the way Americans handle things sucks. Meanwhile, there’s also problems with my debit card. Citi Bank told me that they can’t verified me because my phone number is not under my name, but in US, people tend to use family plan because it is cheaper. However, the account holder of my family plan wasn’t me, so I can’t prof my identity…. Last, I decide to use CHASE, and luckily things all goes well during the rest of the year. Besides, I do learn how to deal with all kinds of problems in my daily life. I can say that the experience this year is unforgettable. (284字)

(五)大三出國建議

During the year, what I learn the most was cooking and driving a car. Since California is really big, it takes about ten minutes to a restaurant. And the closest supermarket takes about seven minutes to drive there, so I suggest you to own a driver's license before you come and make sure to bring your international driver's license. Honestly, Californians barely walk because parking it is very convenient and there are free parking lots everywhere. For examples, there is always a big area in front of the restaurants and supermarket so there’s no worries about finding a parking spot. Besides, the road is wide and the weather is good all the time which is really different from Taiwan, so it would be easier to drive in California. Then, Los Angeles is made up of all kinds of people, in other words, you can find all kinds of food here, and there are many boba shops. If you are not used to eating foreign food, then California will be a good choice for you. I can buy a lot of Taiwanese instant noodles, soy milk, buns and so on. Basically you can find anything here in LA. However, you might need to pay tips at the restaurant, so I prefer to cook at home most of the time. In addition to transportation, cooking. Online shopping is very convenient, and the price is always cheaper than stores at the mall because products are on sale all the time, and include free shipping and return. All in all, I strongly recommend LA for you. (263字)

(六)其他

There are many beautiful beach in Los Angeles, such as Santa Monica, Venice Beach, Malibu and Long Beach. So during summer, you can try some beach activity.In contrast, during winter, you can go skiing in the mountains. There are many ski resorts in California. (45字)
