2018大三出國輔導通報系統 - 留學心得報告[編輯]

(一)基本資料

The UCLouvain Saint-Louis is a public university in Brussels, belonging to the French Community of Belgium. If offers both French and English teaching courses. French as a foreign language course is available for international students. It addition to the campus in Brussels, it has another campus in Ixelles, called Marie-Haps with the Faculty of Translation & Interpretation. The school provides international student complete freedom to choose the courses we want with two weeks free trial class.(75字)

(二)課程學習

Due to the fact that Brussels is the center city of both economic and political fields in Europe, most of the professors here have rich practical experiences in international affairs and the backgrounds of students are really international and diverse. The class "Seminar in international and European organizations" is one of the classes that benefit me a lot. First of all, each student can freely select a topic related to any international issues to present on the class and we will have a discussion after the presentation. As a result, each class can be a good opportunity for brainstorming. We shared our views and discussed all types of the issues from unfamiliar information to familiar subjects. For example, the water shortage crisis, the terrorism, immigrants, gender equality and so on. Secondly, we are offered a chance to visit European Parliament and had a complete tour inside. The guide did not only present us the detailed structure and the election system of European Parliament, explained the current situation of European Unions, but also introduced the internship opportunities within the European Parliament. Thirdly, as I mentioned above, we are able to choose the topic by our own willing. So I took the chance to introduce Taiwan on the class. I cooperated with other Taiwanese students and presented the issue of the Cross strait relation. We simply introduced the history of the Republic of China and the difference between R.O.C and P.R.O.C, showed the truth of the division of the two governments, explained the One-China Policy and sorted out the different political ideologies among Taiwanese. Most importantly, we discussed about the values that we share in Taiwan and what makes us different to Chinese. The content of our presentation even became the questions on the final exams. (三)生活環境

The university is situated in the centre of Brussels, It boasts 4 Faculties spanning the spectrum of the human and social sciences and an Institute for European Studies. The building is located halfway between two main transport stations, which offer convenient metro, tram and bus. There is also a train station within 10 minutes walk. The university occupies several buildings along the Boulevard du Jardin Botanique, Rue du Marais and Rue de l'Omegang, which are shared by the university’s four Faculties and the Institute for European Studies. Car and motorcycle parking is available at the university. There is a well-known shopping street around the campus within 5 minutes walk and two supermarkets nearby. Students can apply for student dormitory which the building is just located next to the university. But due to the limited number of rooms, it's better to send the application form for applying the dormitory as soon as possible. There are four types of rooms available in the student dormitory, with without personal bathroom or personal kitchen, you can choose by your budget and demands. The rent of mattress, the internet and electricity are included in the rent. The rent of an apartment or shared flat cost 500-700 Euro per month. The basic living expense in Brussels is around 500 Euro per month. The climate in Brussels is pleasant, the summer is cool and the winter is moderate. As long as you are under the age of 26 and have a student identity, you can get discount on most of the public transportation and tickets for national institutions.(257字)

(四)自我成長

During the exchange period, I have more free time to organize my own schedule due to the reason that I don't have to organize the activities of student club and I am not able to go home on the weekend. Since I do cherish every moment at my exchange period, it's quite important to make appropriate arrangement of the time. As a consequence, planning daily schedule has became my living habit, I've learnt how to organize the free time without wasting. Besides, the culture of peer groups in Belgium is quite different from the culture in Taiwan. In Belgium, college students tend to be more independent. No matter it's local students or international students, each individual comes from diverse background and has different living habits. Everyone has their own time arrangements and life goals to pursue. Therefore,it's a lesson for me to learn how to enjoy being solitary. It's always wonderful to making new friends and spending time with them, but meanwhile, being alone can be also enjoyable. Most importantly, in Saint-Louis, the semester grades fully depend on the score of one exam, essay questions account for the most part. As a result, it's necessary to completely understand every theory of the courses and know how to apply them in practical ways. My result of the first semester is barely satisfactory so I introspected the way I studied and time arrangement. I adjusted my study plan and made some changes. Hoping the result can be better on the second semester.(251字)

(五)大三出國建議

When we are searching the travel or life information related to Europe. The first thing that shows up will be the cases of security problems. In addition to the burglary and refugees, the Terrorist attack that arose currently makes everyone jittery. But during my 11 month exchange period, I never got into trouble of security issues. No matter it's in Belgium or other European countries. Safety first! It's really important to learn how to protect yourself before going abroad. When you are in a place that you are unfamiliar with, don't forget to keep your eyes peeled, be careful of your personal belongings, carry them in front of you body, not on the back, do not gather in the crowded place by the drive of curiosity, stay alert when strangers try to strike up a conversation with you. You don't have to over-worry as long as you keep the reminders above in mind. Europe is a continent with rich history and culture. It's definitely worth staying. However, at the same time, remember to keep your mind wide open. Because the best things in life happens unexpectedly. Don't forget to observe the passersby on the street and pay more attention to the things that are happening around you, feel it with you heart not only by your eyes. No matter where you are, I do believe that “Beauty is everywhere. It is not that she is lacking to our eye, but our eyes which fail to perceive her.” quoted by Auguste Rodin.(250字)

(六)其他

There are three official language of Belgium: Flemish, French and German. The Belgian community can be simply divided in to Flemish community and French community. Brussels contains both of the communities. However, the Flemish community distributed on the north, where the cites are richer and better developed. There is almost without any obstacle to speak English in Flemish area. On the other hand, French community distributed on the south, where has richer history but is less developed.(77字)
