(一)基本資料

Charles University is the oldest university in Prague, which is the central city in the Czech Republic. The public transportation is more convenient in European countries than Taiwan. The biggest advantage of studying European Countries is traveling or going aboard.(40字)

(二)課程學習

The most interesting class for me definitely belongs to “Czech Language”. For a college student, I have not learned a new thing likes a baby for a long time; even though I believe that it is the best way to learn something new and to build a good fundament. In the Class of Czech Language, we learned from the pronunciation of the letter of the alphabet, which is totally different from English although they look similar. Next, we started to learn the simple vocabulary, likes daddy, mommy, or some food names. And then, the most difficult is the grammar of Czech, it is definitely unlike Chinese, but it is also far different from English. Taiwanese must feel confusing why nouns need to be distinguished to the type of female, male, or neuter. Finally, we have learned some simple sentences for conversations in the daily. Mrs. Barbora Mazúrková is absolutely a kind teacher by using a praising way to teach us in the class. The class of Czech Language is taught by small class size that the teacher will ensure everyone can join the class activities, speak in Czech, and take turns to answer the question in Czech. Teacher Barbora not only taught us with books or in the classroom, but the class included a lot of games and outdoor activities. We have ever been required to ask Czech people the route to some Czech’s tourist attractions in the Czech language on the street. Moreover, we have ever gone to the farmer market to ask the sellers prices and food names in Czech to finish our class assignments. In Prague, the Czech Republic, many people only speak Czech, so this class has indeed helped us sometimes. However, the class with only half of the semester is totally not enough that we just learned its fundament. For the prospect, if there is a chance to learn it more thorough, or even to test the certification of it, it will be really useful. DOBRY DEN (hello)(335字)

(三)生活環境

About the campus of the Department of Social Science at Charles University, it is separated into three places in whole Prague; Hollar, Jionice, and Optalova. At first, I really expected to study abroad to have a wonderful campus life; such as take a bike in our campus, because Lanyang campus is smaller than a normal campus of other universities in Taiwan. However, it is three separated building here. In addition, as we were registering the classes, we could not take two classes which belong two different building continuously because we need to change classrooms by taking public transportations, and sometimes may face the problems of delay or traffic jam. Yet, it is still a special experience that the first time late to change the classroom due to the metro delay. The staffs in its international office are kind and helped me a lot as I had met the problems. Czech’s effectiveness of work is slow, as we sending an email or calling the phones; most of the time, it will not be responded, so the best way is to visit the related staffs immediately. Moreover, if students want to deal with something in Czech, I will suggest going to the place or office earlier because Czech people may be earlier to end the office time, and it often happens. About the dormitory of Charles University, there are only one or two staffs can speak English, so sometimes the communication is a question; however, some simple things, likes borrowing washing machines can be understood by gestures. Each room can live two people, and two rooms share a toilet, bathroom, and kitchen. To be honest, it is indeed bigger than normal room, but I definitely scared as I was going inside at first, it is dirty and dark, and it makes people produce the idea of finding other accommodation immediately. Maybe I expected too much at first thorough some seniors had told me, and that is why it made me so disappointing at the end. Maybe if people who without expectation before he or she lives in, he or she may feel not bad. There are a lot of dormitories of Charles University in different blocks. For me, I lived in Praha8, Kolej 17. Listopadu, which besides the highway and is noisy, but it is convenient that nears supermarkets, bank, post offices, metros, and buses, likes walking for 15 to 20 minutes. About the weather, Prague is drier and colder than Taiwan; buying lotion in here is necessary, but compares to other European countries, Prague’s weather is more comfortable. In December, Prague will start to snow, but the coldest time will be in January; at this time, the boots and heavy coats are needed. The gap in temperature between day and night in Prague is normal as it is bigger than 10. By the way, there is no air conditioner in Europe, so I was starting to worry about how to live in the summer now.(492字)

(四)自我成長

The educational system in Czech let me feel totally different from Taiwanese. Specifically; in Taiwan, students are asked to understand all concept thoroughly, which means can write the long and detailed definitions in papers or exams; therefore, rather than describe this way of learning as “understand”, better to call it likes “remember”. There is another paradox that I found in Taiwan after I was studying in Europe. In the recent year, the Taiwanese educational system may much found the importance of globalization, so there are more and more Taiwanese universities try to implement the teaching way likes Western; in other words, schools start to encourage students interact and discuss with others in the classes in universities. However, due to the Taiwanese educational system required students to be quiet, and all that students should do in the classes is to obey everything that teachers have told before students studied colleges; in other words, in the ex-twelve-year, as students were studying in schools. What is more, most of the time, it not only do not encourage students to interact with others in the classes, but students would even be seen as naughty or hateful by Taiwanese originally educational background. It is definitely not easy for changing the learning way that Taiwanese used to immediately. Even though the teachers and the environments are different, but the students have maintained the same viewpoint for a long time ago. After I was studying in a European Country, I was much willing to talk in the class gradually because I did not worry whether other students may feel that I annoying them in the classes or not. After came to abroad, I was gradually changing a lot of my system of values in many different fields, definitely including the viewpoint of learning point. Yet, for students who were studying in Taiwan, in the same environment, it is quite a difficult requirement that asks them to change without any big change in their life. In conclusion, I have learned that there may be no definitely the best education system for everyone. Each educational system in each country may just need to find the most suitable one for them.(361字)

(五)大三出國建議

Suggestions for the junior; first of all, I would like to mention the luggage. The most regret thing of mine is I brought too many things from Taiwan to Prague, such as clothing, shoes, hangers, shampoo, or pencil case is more convenient to buy them in local than bring them here. At the beginning of we arrived Prague it was totally a nightmare that needed to take three super heavy luggage walked on the street; especially the street in Prague is not constituted by bricks, which means it is not flat at all. To conclude, as people who was preparing for the luggage as he or she would like to bring it to study abroad, the decided factors of bring something or not is whether it can be bought abroad, if the answer is yes; apparently, do not need to increase the weights of his or her luggage. Moreover, that is no doubt that we must buy a lot of clothing, souvenirs, and so on in European country, and there is also a problem that I cannot bring all those back because I had already brought a lot of things as I came here. If there is something that necessary to be brought, that will be medicine and Taiwanese snacks. Secondly, the problem of creating a local bank cannot be definitely told whether it is necessary or not, so I just summary its advantages and disadvantages. For the advantages, absolutely more convenient in Europe, there are a lot of shops in Prague that can only pay by credit card; what is more, as people who use the credit card from Czech’s bank pay by card in European countries, it does not need additional service charge, and also does not need to worry about the problem of exchange rates. The Raiffeisen Bank in the Czech Republic can create a new account without additional fee, and it feedbacks each account 100 Czech Currency per month. For the disadvantages, as Taiwanese want to create the new account in here, he or she needs to create two; one for Euro, one for Krone. Due to Taiwan’s bank cannot directly transfer the New Taiwan Dollar to Krone, so his or her parents can only transfer Euro to his or her bank account. As he or she wants to get cash of Krone, he or she needs to take Euro out and exchange to Krone. On the other hands, as people who only use Taiwanese credit cards, he or she can directly go Euronet ATM, which appears in every European country, take out Euro or local currency. Thirdly, the problem of telephone, most inconvenience is there is no telephone program with unlimited internet. For us, we choose Vodafone’s students program, which owns 10GB internet per months and can be used in every European Union countries, and 499 Krone per month. The company will ask for the international student ID card (it’s important to remember to extend the valid date of Tamkang’s student ID card before students go abroad) and passport.(507字)
