There are so many different classes at Temple University. It was so hard for me to choose which to participate. I chose ten courses to study during my exchange year at Temple. Some of them are about my major which is computer science. Most importantly, I have also chosen courses that I have a lot of interests. I enjoyed all of these courses. Thus, it is extremely hard for me to pick which one is my favorite. However, I will probably choose Jewelry class as my favorite course. Temple University is famous for its art school. That’s why when I saw a jewelry class for non-major, I didn't even hesitate. I know this is a great chance for me to learn something new. And making your own jewelry sounds like a lot of fun. This course is only open during the Spring semester. The professor is friendly and great. She explains and demonstrates how to do during each step very clearly. If I have encountered problems, she helps me immediately. Every time we complete a project, we have to introduce it in class. I think it’s very interesting to listen to other people's concepts of their work. Not to mention the sense of accomplishment that I feel after completing a project. Although I need to pay some extra money for this course, it’s worth it. I recommend every girl to take a course, which is “Personal Defense for Women”. I learn a lot of knowledge about self-defense during this course. It’s best if you know something rather than nothing. Knowing how to defend yourself is very crucial, and this is a fun course to take. Overall, there are so many courses to pick at Temple University, I think all the courses are worth to give it a try. Just make sure to choose the course that you have interests. (313字)

(三)生活環境

The campus of Temple University is a lot larger compared with Tamkang University. Going from a building to another building might take a while. However, you can find everything you need on campus. There are restaurants and food truck everywhere, so you don't need to worry about food. In case you like to cook yourself, there is also a supermarket not so far away from the campus. Furthermore, there are a lot of facilities on campus. For example, the gym for people who like to work-out; a building called Tech center enables students to work collaboratively or individually, and a student center to let students rest and hang-out, etc. The campus is full of activities pretty much every week, including dynamic and static activity. I can always find something to do if I am bored. Since the amount of school dorms at Temple University is too expensive, I live outside the campus. Although it is off-campus, it has a partnership with Temple University. And it is not far away from the campus at all. If you eat a meal outside, you can easily exceed NT$300. Therefore, the best way to save some money is to cook on your own. Thus, you need to find a well-equipped kitchen if you want to cook your meal. Temple University is located in North Philadelphia. However, going to other places is very easy since there is a lot of transportation on campus, including train, bus, and subway. Philadelphia is the oldest city in the United States, with many historical sites and well-known attractions. So, there are many places to visit. (266字)

(四)自我成長

Last August, I went to the United States for the first time. Everything is very novel for me, new places, new courses, and new people. Courses are a lot harder compared with Taiwan’s. There are lots of assignments and projects. I need to spend a lot of time to work on them every week. Also, some classes may need to do some reading before each class. No matter what class I took, the students in each class are very devoted to listening to professors and taking notes. It motivates me to do the same. Although courses are heavy, I can learn a lot from them. I noticed that people are very polite on campus. For instance, people will hold the door for others even though the other still further away from the door. Sometimes, I will feel a little pressured because that person is holding the door for me. But it is their local culture, the best way is to do the same and blend into it. People in America live a slow-paced life, everyone seems very chill and calm. For example, customers are waiting patiently in the checkout line. For a person like me who lived in Taiwan for a long time, I need to have more patience. Being an exchange student, I feel that I have learned a lot in every aspect. I can express my opinions at any time during classes. In terms of personality, I am more loyal to myself. I feel like I don't need to change myself to please others. Overall, I treasure this experience a lot. (264字)

(五)大三出國建議

On the day of the orientation, I got to know a lot of exchange students from various countries because of the activities at Temple University. More importantly, I can have a basic understanding of the school building. That is why I recommend every new exchange student go to orientation. It only takes about half a day. I remember there’s also some small trip for us to go during orientation week. But you can decide for yourself whether you want to go. Philadelphia is known as a dangerous city. Frankly said, dangerous than Taiwan. As mentioned earlier, public security in Philadelphia is not good. I live here for almost a year, and I can feel that. From time to time, I will receive an email from the school to remind you of any cases of robbery or shootout. I have also encountered someone who took a knife and swayed on the road. No one is freaking out, so you don't need to worry too much. There are many police stations on the campus. As long as you don't hang out outside the campus in the middle of the night, and always with some companies, it is fine. There are many activities on campus, such as bingo night, sports game, movie night and small trip, etc. Those events are fun and interesting to participate. Furthermore, you can meet new people and maybe make friends with them. It’s hard to make friends in class because each class has different students. When this class is over, people usually go to the next class. You don't really have the chance to know each other. So, don’t be shy if you want to meet new friends!(283字)

(六)其他

Before going to America, I decided to record my life and share with others. Therefore, I created a YouTube channel named “Eating’s Planet” to share my life. I uploaded videos every once a week. I am very proud of myself that no matter how busy I am, I didn't give up and still uploading a video. If you are interested in my life in America. Go to YouTube and search "Eating’s Planet."
