(一)基本資料

My name is HSIN-HUA, LEE. I applied to California State University Long Beach when studying abroad in junior. The weather and surroundings in California are pretty pleasant. I studied in the ALI program for my first semester. I gained a lot of knowledge from my teachers, and also make some friends in this program. Especially, I learned to be brave when I attended the speaking class. Having the courage to express own thoughts and do not afraid of speaking English is the most important thing to conquer obstacles in your heart. However, I translate into the study abroad program for my second semester. I met different people from different regions. Moreover, we shared distinct cultures and opinions with others. (119字)

(二)課程學習

The hip-hop course is one of my favorite class at California State University Long Beach. This class is designed to help in understanding the fundamentals of hip-hop while expanding vocabulary, technique, and understanding the body in relationship to dance. Through this course, I am not only learned the particular technique and movements but also obtained the terminology in Hip-Hop culture. Our professor is interesting and humorous. He regards students as friends and talking to us in a relaxed tone. Thus, the teacher and the students are in a good relationship. This is my first time to learn how to dance. At the beginning of the class, I was concerned because I did not have any foundation for dancing. My personality is shy, so I did not know any classmates at that time. However, after warm-up and other interactions, I started to chat with my classmates and even discussed the movement of Hip-Hop. I made a lot of friends from Hip-Hop class. Some people are from Korea, and some people are native American. If we have questions of movement, we taught and discuss with each other. Thus, through a lot of interaction, we have established a good friendship. I have a lot of fun when I was dancing with my friends. Moreover, we will share own nation, culture, hobbies and so on. My professor from Hip-Hop course called Cruz. He is very patient. He always encourages students to ask questions when they do not clarify or understand. Cruz would be taught us again and again. Actually, I am afraid of learning dancing because I fear to perform in front of everyone, not to mention Cypher, freestyles and battles. However, my teacher inspires me to overcome barriers in my heart, just do it and show what you want to dance. I learned a lot of things in this class, and also made bosom friends. We hung out to go shopping or drink Boba milk tea. Even if we are from different countries, I still established a good rapport with them. We felt sorrow in the last course because we knew that we would be apart, but we still believe that we will meet in the future, and remember our memories at the university.(371字)

(三)生活環境

I lived in an apartment rather than a dormitory. It located in the circle area, and it also just next to Beachside dormitory. I consider that this spot is really suitable for students. There are many reasons why live in this apartment is wonderful: traffic, diet, and freedom. First of all. there is a bus stop in front of the apartment. Students are able to take a bus to school easily. Moreover, if you miss the bus, you can take the shuttle to school. Secondly, there are numerous shops in the circle area. In instance, you can walk to fast-food restaurants, banks, laundries, supermarkets within 15 minutes from the apartment. Isn't it convenient? In the end, you will feel freer to live in apartment with people than live in the dormitory. Students do not have guarded the entrance, and they can cook whatever they want to eat. Without a doubt, California is the best place to reside. The geography of California is rich and diverse. However, it is sunny and dry in Long Beach and people rarely sweat. By the way, there are multiplied beaches in California. If you enjoy a sunbath or be fond of the sea, I think that this is the best choice to study at California State University in Long Beach. There are many Chinese districts in California. People can go there to enjoy Chinese food, or go shopping. You will not feel homesick. Moreover, there are lots of distinct in the downtown, such Korean town (Ktown), little Tokyo and so on. Multiple countries are combined in California, I can feel exotic customs. It is a really cool experience to live here.(275字)

(四)自我成長

Study abroad is an extraordinary experience for me. I have to learn to be independent and brave. I did not adapt to live in the United States at first. In Taiwan, I usually ride a motorcycle from place to place. However, the regions in California is extensive. I do not have a driver license in America, so I can not drive a car in Califonia. Hence, I have to try to familiar with the surroundings near my apartment and university because I can only walk on foot, take a bus and take Uber or Lyft. Living in other nation, speaking in a different language, and trying to get used to different diets are obstacles. In university, I have to communicate with my professor and classmates, so I need to have the courage to start to speak in English with foreigners. According to education, American education is different from Taiwanese education. In the United States, professors and students often discuss varied opinions in the class and even share their thought with classmates. In contrast, Taiwanese students are educated in an inflexible environment. Moreover, racial discrimination still exists in America. Thus, you have to be courageous to face this problem. (198字)

(五)大三出國建議

I have some suggestions for those students who want to apply to California State University. First, joining the associations in the school. You will have more opportunities to integrate into American culture fast. Second, expanding the comfort zone, boldly speak English and try to make new friends. Last, taking care of yourself is the most important thing when you study abroad.(61字)
