During this year in Winona, my favorite class will definitely be English for computer science. Tim Brennan is our teacher for this class, he is really a hard-working teacher and he always prepares a lot before this class. In this class, I learned a lot of vocabularies for computer software and hardware. Tim also tries to improve our presentation skills in this class too. In Tim’s class, I can totally be myself, and learn a lot of new knowledge, he also treats us really nice and never gets mad at us, he usually encourages us instead of punishment and can talk to him as a friend. I really miss his class, cause you can really learn something not just wasting time sitting in the classroom and play with phones. I really recommend this class for the future students from Taiwan, Tim can not only help with your works can also talk to you and really helps you during this year. I got Tim’s class only in the fall semester, even if we don’t have his class, Tim still gave us a big smile and greets every time he saw us. If we have any problem with our life or works, we can always find him and he will help us out. If I got a chance I would really love to have his class again! (228字)

(三)生活環境

We went to Winona in July and its still summer, the summer in Winona isn’t too hot, in fact, it’s really a comfortable place to live. There is a Winona lake near our house, we can row boats there and play Ping-Pong in the boat club. Winona starts to turn cold in September, the temperature suddenly drops really quickly from 25 Celsius to 15 Celsius, I didn’t even wear my shorts and T-shirts for three months. Then it starts to snow at the end of November, at first I was really excited for my first snow in the U.S, but after about a month I feel annoyed when I saw the snow. I have to walk to school every day, because of the snow it gets harder to walk and sometimes I fell on the ground cause I get stuck by the snow. My friend even did a test at night that the temperature is only -40 Celsius, my friend fill the mug with water and pours it, the water suddenly turns into ice and drop on the ground. As it’s closer to the end of the year, the snow get’s bigger and bigger too. Sometimes when I woke up in the morning, I will receive an email that notices all of the students according to the huge snow all courses were canceled, that’s the only part that I love big snow. By the way, we love to play snow angels and jump into snow on the way back home from the gym too. (259字)

(四)自我成長

During this year of studying at Winona State University I studied with Americans, I worked with students from different countries in the cafeteria, mostly with students from Sri Lanka, and went to some other states in the U.S. I was really nervous when studying with Americans in class at first, cause I was afraid they would ignore me, actually they are all really nice and help me a lot, sometimes if I couldn’t understand the content, they will explain to me. When working in the cafeteria I need to learn how to communicate with customers and colleagues, this really makes my communication more improved. When traveling to other places, I need to make plans like where to live, how to go, and where to go, living in the U.S and traveling by ourselves instead of with parents did improve how we deal with things and how we solve problems. In this year, I think the biggest part that’s different before I left Taiwan is I became more independent than before, although my parents are usually not in Taiwan, living in a place that is far away with Taiwan for 7585 miles is really a big difference. I have to cook by myself, deal with stuff by myself, even when I was sick or hurt I have to deal with it by myself too, I really appreciate my parents gave me this chance to study abroad and see the world, without them I won’t have this nice chance to go abroad for one year at this age.(260字)

(五)大三出國建議

Before I chose Winona State University for my study abroad program university, I did consider other universities like Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and California State University, but what makes me chose Winona? First, you have to know what are you going to do during this year, if you are here for fun, then I recommend you to go to the East or West of the U.S, cause there are more stuff around those places. If you are here for studying, to get more credits and want to earn more money, I really recommend Winona State University. Winona is just a small town that doesn’t cost you much, you can get more credits for computer science than other universities, and you can also earn lots of money during this year. It really depends on how you are going to do this year. Don’t bring lots of clothes when packing cause you will definitely buy a lot of new clothes and things in the U.S since it’s cheaper than Taiwan. If you chose Winona, please be well prepared for a long and cold winter, the snow this year starts from the end of November until the middle of April. Usually, the snow is huge and really hard to walk when you’re outside, but it is really a different experience that you won’t see in other places. Also, don’t be afraid to speak in English, people in Winona are mostly nice, they won’t judge you, be brave and just use the vocabulary you know, don’t need to use hard words to describe, and enjoy the year when studying abroad, to feel the life there and make good memories.(285字)
