2018大三出國輔導通報系統 - 留學心得報告[編輯]

(一)基本資料

For study abroad, I choose to study at Sunderland University. Sunderland is a city which near Newcastle.(17字)

(二)課程學習

My favorite lecture in Sunderland university is Media culture. Professor in this lecture is so friendly and I always feel I can learn lots of things not only in lecture but also in seminar classes. This module will definetly be the first class I would like to introduce to every one. In my perspective, I think University of Sunderland will be the first choice who needs credit for graduate. Due to the lecture here are so plentiful. But, the lecture is also suitable for the student who study in tourism department, due to the most popular subject in this university, so I would highly recommend to choose this school whether any purposes. And I also suggest student who are in fresh year could add a course call EAP (English in Academic Purpose), it is a nice course for those who just finish their language program and need a join another course to make their English ability better. It is a credit module and also can be used in lanyang campus as well. It could divided into "listening and speaking" and "reading and writing", all of the courses details could be provided through campus email or campus leaflet. For those who need credit to back to Taiwan and doesn't know which courses they would take in future semester, Sunderland university have got tutors for fresh man and will introduce them through campus email, if student and any question, they could ask tutor via email or arrange a meeting with them on Monday or Wednesday, it is helpful for me because my tutor always give the better opinion for choosing module in further semester. They are not just like professor but also like a guide friend in Sunderland, they held lots of event for fresh man, and those would help us get to know Sunderland and university better, definitely recommend fresh man to join the student event as well.(317字)

(三)生活環境

There are two campus located in Sunderland city of UOS, one is city campus(it located in city centre), the other one is St. Peter campus, st Peter has a bit distance but it is convenience by metro or bus as well. In Sunderland university, we have free shuttle bus for every student (with valid student ID) and shuttle from city campus through st Peter campus, it also stop at city centre and the as well. For dormitory, Sunderland university has provided some student accommodation, In my perspective, I am not quite familiar with it due to I have found the flat in city centre and I think it is more convenient for living. In city centre, we have a shopping mall call "Bridges", everyone could by anything in it, stores such as Tesco, Primark, Boots and lots of shops that really nice for student who study abroad. Me and my friends will normally spent time to go to Newcastle by metro or train, the metro system in Sunderland is also convenient, student could buy pop card for taking metro for saving 0.5p per time. Let's talk about weather here, Sunderland is located in the north east of England, normally only 1-2 month for summer time (15c) and will turn cold in September, sometimes we can experience the snow in December to February. I suggest that student who are coming in further semester could bring some warm jacket or coat because that Taiwan's weather is quite different from here, we take time to get used of it. (257字)

(四)自我成長

The first and most difficult thing that I have experienced in UK is the accent. Normally Taiwanese student have been taught in American style English, it will not be able to fully understand every single word and sentence when we talk to British people. In my experience, the first day I have arrived Sunderland(came from the airport), I need to talk to my landlord to get my keys and check in to my flat, however, the staff in the property are all British and everybody knows that Sunderland's accent is more unique and hard to understand(actually for those who just arrive in UK). I took several miniutes to understand her sentence, but after few months I started to get used of it. It is also a nice practice when the semester starts and listen to professor careful in lectures. Let us talk about discrimination, although it happened in everywhere not only in UK. But in my experience, some "senseless" people (particularly young man) will say "Nihao" to asian, sometimes in Japanese or Korean, but do not feel panic, sometimes we ignored it or we will stare at them. For those who are coming in further year, I suggest that you'd better start to learn how to cook by yourself, as everyone knows, British food is not taste good and normally we will cook by ourself, it is more tasty and saving cost in living. We can also buy some spices in Asian market (we got 2 asian market in Sunderland city centre), also Taiwanese instant noodles, I could say that you can buy anything in here. (267字)

(五)大三出國建議

I suggest that everyone who are going to Sunderland to study, when you first arrive here, take a rest and adjust the time lag, keep yourself warm and fully rest especially first day. You can buy anything you want in city centre shops like Bridges or willko (for furniture). In further days, I suggest you could start to create your own student bank account, but you will need a student identification document by university, and we normally call the document as "Bank letter", you can ask anyone in gateway(Campuses both have gateway) by your passport, and choose a bank you prefer, we have HSBC, Barclays...etc. Then arrange a time for creating an account, due to the staff will need several forms for sign and few question to ask. After you got your bank card, you can use it anywhere, normally British people use card frequently then cash, it is more convenient and save in Europe countries. And the most important thing is we could transfer money bank by bank (with app) immediately without any fees, that is really convenient for student, and I think I will miss this benefits when I go back to Taiwan. For those who would like to travel in Europe country, the flights are usually cheap to go to other countries, it is also a nice experience for student to learn other countries' culture in study abroad year, we do not have the pressure for graduating(at least in this year).You could spend some times google which country you like the most and start to searching flights and hotels for preparing your trips.(270字)
