To be honest, I love all four courses so much. If I have to choose one, it should be the Foundations of Cuisine. There are two reasons why I choose this to be my favourite. First of all, the course is made up of two parts, the academic part and the practical part. In the academic part, I learn the basic knowledge about the kitchen, about the cookeries, about the rules in the kitchen and so on. While in the practical part, I actually went into a kitchen and I am able to learn how to cook. There is something special about this kitchen. Having a French window showing all the passers-by in the street what happen in the kitchen is not an opportunity that comes a lot. This is a great experience having a course like this. Second of all, I learned a lot from this course, more than the other three. However, it doesn’t mean I learned little from the other three. On the other hand, I learned a lot from those as well. The professor who teaches Food and beverage knowledge impressed me a lot. The course is fun and has a very unique way of teaching students. It lasts for 4 hours. The first 2 hours, the professor will teach us about the basic knowledge about how the wine is made, the condition about the grapes need and so on. The interesting things happen in the next 2 hours. Students can actually sit down and enjoy the wine and food made by the professor. While enjoying the food and wine, students need to fill up the forms about how the food and the wine taste. There are no other courses that students sit down, waiting for the professor cooking and serving. In my opinion, this course is definitely worthy of having.(303字)

(三)生活環境

William Angliss Institute is not very big, but not too small at the same time. There is a very small restaurant in the Institute for students to buy their lunch and a student lounge for people to relax or chat or play ping pong. It is very easy to get to the institute by transportation even not living in the central business district, also known as “CBD”. There are trains, trams, buses and V/Lines in Victoria and an application called “PTV” for people to know the timetables for all these. It is possible to get anywhere in Victoria by public transportation. However, sometimes there will be some incidents or constructions. It will be a little bit troublesome for people living away from the CBD without a car though. If living in the CBD, the transportation will be more convenient but the fee for the accommodation will be more expensive. The temperature is very unstable, especially in spring. For example, today can be 26 degrees, and then all of a sudden tomorrow will be 10 degrees. So checking the weather forecast is very important if living in Melbourne. There are a lot of different kinds of restaurants in Melbourne, from the classic fish and chips to Italian food, from the traditional Australian meat pie to the street food in China. Asian food store can be seen almost every corner in Melbourne, even though they are a little bit expensive compared to the food bought in the supermarket. Basically, there is nothing to worry about living in Melbourne.(255字)

For me, there isn’t much difficulty in daily life. I am a very independent person. I like cooking very much and love trying to cook new stuff. On the other hand, I had some trouble in school when I first got there. The professors are all from different countries like New Zealand or Germany. It took me a while to get used to their accent. The biggest problem I met so far this year was my very first assignment. The assignment required us to write over 1000 word and also needed to have the references both in the essay and the end of the essay. I have never written an essay with references or an essay more than 500 words, not to mention 1000 words. It was normal for me to be surprised. But after that, I knew I needed to start doing the research instead of complaining about the number of words requirements. Read the requirements again and again and tons of the documents and books, I was always convincing myself that this was how an assignment is like. Fortunately, I finished it before the deadline and got a quite decent mark in this essay. Another small trouble I meet is the word created in Australia, like “Aussies” (Australians), “dunny” (toilet), “mozzie” (mosquito) or “ta” (thank you). It seems that the Australians like to simplify the word and to put “–y” or “–ie” at the end of the word to make it sound cuter. It also took me a while to understand what they mean when they say those words. (259字)

(五)大三出國建議

First of all, try to get a part-time job as soon as you arrive in Melbourne. It will definitely help you in the second half year and you can earn some money for yourself. However, don’t abandon the study. There will be a lot of free time and you will definitely relax and waste 90% of the time. Get a part-time job or invest yourself instead of shopping. The reason why your parents pay and want you to be in Melbourne is not letting you relax in the shopping mall or playing video games for the entire weekend. Second of all, you will definitely get shocked when you know you have to write an over 1000-word essay. However, you can actually know these assignments in the first week. Get prepared and ask the professor anything you get confused. “There are no stupid questions. The only stupid question is the question that you don’t ask,” one of my professors said. Furthermore, you can actually have enough time to finish your assignment before the deadline. DO NOT WAIT TILL THE LAST MINUTE. The earlier you start, the more time you will have for perfecting your essay and the higher mark you will get. Try to make 1000 words divided into small parts, like 100 words a day. Third of all, ISEC office is not your babysitter. If you are in an emergency, call 000, which is the emergency number in Australia, which is also the number you probably will not even dial once because there isn’t much emergency happen in Melbourne just like you being in Taiwan. If it is not an emergency, deal with it yourself and stop acting like a child. Last but not least, get your mind to relax. There is nothing to worry about. Melbourne is just a city that the people speak a different language from you. Otherwise, there is nothing different from Taipei. Get prepared. Good luck. Have fun.(322字)
