2018大三出國輔導通報系統 - 留學心得報告[編輯]

(一)基本資料

By the time I was applying for the exchange program from the University of Queensland, I already make up my mind that I will make the most of the time here in order to gain different knowledge from Tamkang University, furthermore, the weather in Brisbane is mostly sunny, which is another reason why I choose here instead of the University of New South Wales. (二)課程學習

I enrolled in marketing, microeconomics, international business management, and communication skills. All of the subjects have team projects, for instance, in the marketing course, we have to submit a marketing plan to the professor at the end of the semester. Firstly, it was kind of terrifying to be the only Asain in the team, as it turns out we worked perfectly, I also took the role to present the final piece during the tutorial and got a decent score for the final. This made me realize that Taiwanese students are not inferior compared with Australian, although English is not out first- language if you put effort to work on IELTS beforehand, you will do just fine due to the fact that you can read the course materials in order to get on top of everything. However, I did get a major setback when it comes to international business management, except from we have to do two group debate in the tutorial, we need to write 1 page long for each question for the mid-semester and the final exam. We did terrific on the two debate and got 9 out of 10, but for my personal mid-semester exam, I only got 40 out of 100. On the edge of giving up and thinking of dropping the course, I decided to keep it and do extra readings and research in order to get a much higher score to pass the course. Hopefully, I passed. As for the second semester, as well as the last semester at UQ, I chose to enroll in accounting, business information transformation systems, macroeconomics, and writing. Business information transformation systems is an interesting course, the courses included knowledge ranging from excel, information system design, big data to project management. Though the professor failed to describe precisely what he really means sometimes, with the assist of tutorial teachers, I success to sort most of the part out. The courses structure here is quite different from those in Taiwan. Each course contains lecture, tutorial, sometimes there will be a so-called ‘pass’ for some courses, to let the student have a better understanding of the formulas or do extra exercise to excel the mid-semester and final exam. The lecture often going similar to the one in Taiwan, the professor does the talking assist with powerpoint slides. As for tutorials and pass, students will be divided into a four to five people groups and each teammate has to contribute equal weighting of effort to the project as well as the class, such as answering questions during class. If one failed to do so, the rest of the teammates can fill out a particular form to notify the professor then he or she will not pass the course, which is a fair policy, encouraging people to be productive and take on responsibility because we are a team. (三)生活環境

I first got here on 1st of July, 2018, settle everything down for about a week or so then my semester at UQ officially start. UQ has excellent school-wide applications such as UQnav, a map designed specifically for the tremendous campus to let students get acquainted to the school buildings as well as classrooms. UQ is big enough to have their own school security, who works 7/24 and also released an SOS application recently to make sure everyone is safe and sound during their uni days. The buildings at UQ are beautiful and most are brand new, fully furnished with fine chairs and computers, there are also some spaces for student to take a nap in the library. The study environment at UQ is superb, ranging from large grassland to elegant library spaces with large screen computers. (135字)

(四)自我成長

During the period of the first semester here, I did not make a lot of friends, most of them were just teammates instead of those friends that I want to spend some spare time with. I decided to be more out-going for the second semester, I started to attend social events in order to make friends with who has similar interest and see eye to eye to most of the things. Apart from this, I try to make friends with people other than Chinese and Taiwanese. For the past few months, I started to hang out with Australian, Indian and some other people with different ethnicities. It is fun to understand what really other people’s thoughts and how they deal with life. For example, most of the Australian choose to live at the moment, they tend to spend all of their money instead of saving some money for rainy days, or they choose to have a gap year to travel around the world, which is pretty different from Asian’s mindset. (六)其他

I really enjoy studying at the University of Queensland, to vibe knowledge with smart people, talking about the future, and making friends and meeting people from different places. There is one thing I regret about is that because I am so busy at uni and do not have too much time to travel around Australia, such as going to Sydney to see the opera house or going shopping at Melbourne, however, I am grateful that I choose Brisbane instead of any other places in Australia. Brisbane is sort of similar to Tainan back in Taiwan, a bit chill comparing to Sydney, so many sunny days that people almost forget what is it like to be raining. (116字)
