2018大三出國輔導通報系統 - 留學心得報告[編輯]

(一)基本資料

In my junior year study abroad program, I choose ICHM, International College of Hotel Management to study in. It locates in Adelaide, Australia. This school specializes in study for one semester, and do the internship for the other semester. As for the first semester, we took Applied Business Communications, Food & Beverage Service Standards, Delivering Guest Services Practicum, and Rooms Division Service Standards. The semester started from mid-July and ended in early December, and my internship is from December to June.(80字)

(二)課程學習

My favorite course is the Food & Beverage Service Standards. It has rich contents, the lecturer teaches us from delivering guests services to learning how to make a cocktail step by step. The lecturer is really kind, responsible, and dedicated to his job. He teaches us lots of knowledge in wine, beer, cocktail, coffee, restaurant service; even the origin and history of food can he elaborate in details. What's more, we have lots of practical opportunities to serve our classmates as practices and serving the real customers in the restaurant and convention center on site as well. It's really cool and exciting that we hardly have practical courses in Taiwan, so that become the very first time for most of the students to serve the customers. Additionally, the coffee session is really unique, and it's also the most impressive one for me in this course. This is my first time to make my own coffee with the coffee machine. We learned how to make different kinds of coffee, such as long black, short black/espresso, flat white, cappuccino, macchiato, and latte. Among all the various type of coffee, cappuccino is my favorite. Our lecturer is professional, and he always reminds us everything that we should remember patiently. I took notes and pictures to record every process carefully. The cocktail session is quite interesting, we observed our lecturer to display and make a variety of wine and cocktail, then we try it on our own. Though it's not easy to memorize several different ways in the first time to make a cocktail, the lecturer is always there to assist you. To sum up, this is the course which I had learned the most, it's really worth to take it, and I strongly recommend students who want to choose this school for his/her junior year must take this class. You would get various special experiences through this course. (316字)

(三)生活環境

To be honest, the surrounding of ICHM is really bored and tedious. There are no clubs for students to join and no many attractive activities for students to have fun. It really makes me feel disappointed because it's a big difference from what I had expected before. What's more, if we want to get some food or products for our daily use, we need to take 10 minutes' walk to the bus stop, and another 20-30 minutes by bus to the center of the city to do some shopping. However, you still can choose to walk to the nearest shopping center which also takes you 20-30 minutes' walk from the school. As for the advantages, ICHM offers dormitories for students to live in. It's really safe and convenient to live so close to your school and not need to get up early to commute to your school. Instead, it only takes you a few minutes' walks from the dormitory. Furthermore, ICHM also offers three meals a day, seven days a week. It's really considerate because there barely has a restaurant in the neighborhood. The food is nice too, the chefs cook different kinds of food originate from various countries every day. In terms of the weather, there are random storms and huge rains, but it only happens occasionally. Sometimes, in summer days are really hot and intolerable, and big flies are everywhere which would easily drive people crazy. However, when the weather is turning that kind of uncomfortable, it's time to bid farewell to this school, and we are about to start our internship program. (264字)

(四)自我成長

Study abroad is a good chance to train your self to be independent. You need to solve lots of problem such as apply for a mobile phone number, a bank account, find a place to live in, etc. Especially for finding a place to live in. It's the biggest challenge for me, which I spent for one month, contact with countless lessors. It's really difficult for an outsider to rent a suitable apartment to live in a new place in a foreign country. I try no matter the local governmental organization or Chinese landlords. I've been through a very hard time to finally find a nice one just a few days before my internship commence date. Because as a student who is going to work for six months in the other city, one needs to consider the price, the location, and the type of apartment. Although I finally rent one successfully and book my flight ticket in the last minute, I still feel really glad and fortunate to find it in time before everything is going to screw up. As for the courses I took in the first semester, the texts, classes, and assignments were not difficult. So actually I didn't spend much time on my school work. In terms of culture shock, I know Australian like to use many slangs in their everyday conversations since I have traveled to Australia before. So it's normal that a foreigner cannot get them well, also their humor it's really hard to understand. (250字)

(五)大三出國建議

As I just mentioned above, there are not only merits but also demerits. So remember to do more research on your options, and ask the students who went to the school before that you're interested in. Because it's really important to get to know every single issue as much as possible. It would be very helpful to make sure what you choose is the most sensible one. Make cautious consideration before you choose the school for your junior year study abroad program because there's no use to regret after you have decided. In addition, make sure you are well-prepared for the unknown challenges that you are going to face within this year because study abroad is so unpredictable, and adapt to the brand-new environment in a foreign country for no matter who in the first time is not easy. Therefore, except the most basic ability, which is your English ability; you still need to get some support in this year, no matter is your family, friends, girlfriend or boyfriend. Or some used to get support from idols or groups. I mean, no matter what, as long as they can help you to confront the obstacles. Last but not least, always try to look at the bright side of the thing, even though it's much easier to say it than to actually realize it. No matter your junior year study abroad program is smooth or not, after this year, you would surprisingly find yourself learn and grow a lot, have big progress, and somehow turn yourself into a more mature person, I promise.
