(二)課程學習

The course that I like the most is Delivering Guest Services Practicum, because I am the person does not like to sit in class and keep writing notes, instead of learning from books, I prefer practical class more. Our lecturer Richard Hunter, is really nice and professional, I learned a lot of things from him. In this course, we learned how to set up table, greet and serve the guests, how to set up the bar before using, how to make cocktails, having wine and cheese tasting, and coffee making. The school provides a perfect learning environment and equipment for us to practice. The atmosphere in this course will not let we feel stressful, the lecturer and all of the classmates are kind, we take care of each other and works as a team. To let the us have chance to use what we have learned in class, the school provided two kinds of opportunities for the us to practice. The first one is doing two shifts in the Adelaide Convention Centre, to experience and know how does the function run. The second one is to do eight shifts in total at the restaurant on campus, four shifts for lunches and four shifts for dinners. It is also a preparation for the us to get used to the working life in industry placement. For those who likes practical classes, this course is definitely their best choice.(236字)

(三)生活環境

For students in ICHM, you can choose either live on campus or not, but mostly all of the students will choose to live on campus because it is more convenient and closer to the campus. The place we live is called Regency International House (RIH), people living there include ICHM students, LCB students, some workers and people for short-term stay. The buildings in RIH are all two floors, eight people living in each floor, four on left side and four on the right side. Everyone has their own room, which has a bed, a desk, a shelf, a closet, a clotheshorse, a heater and a fan. There is only an air conditioning in living room, four people sharing the living room and two people sharing the same bathroom. We can’t cook in the room, they only provide a kettle and a microwave. There are two washing machines and two dryers in the first floor in each building. The accommodation fee includes the water and electricity expenses and three meals for a day. The entertainment that people can have on campus is to play basketball, tennis, pool and table tennis. The weather in Australia is really dry, even though when we arrive it is winter and rainy, it is still really dry for our skin, it needs time to get used to it. There are many places and festival to go in Adelaide, especially getting away from the city center and go to the suburb, you can find that Adelaide is really beautiful.(253字)

(四)自我成長

Students here likes to sit closer to the lecturer, unlike what we do in Taiwan, try to sit as far as possible. The lecturer also like to pick students to share their thoughts and they are all brave to express themselves. In Taiwan, when teacher ask question usually no one will answer or hide themselves trying not to be call by teacher. So, at first I am not used to it and feel stressful in class. I don’t want to be call and if not paying attention for just a few second you cannot follow what’s going on. It takes me time to get used to it. The most important of all is not to speak Mandarin in class and in front of the lecturer. Since we know each other more, we often stay together, go to the course together, sit together, discuss together. however, the lecturer doesn’t like that, he wants us to step out of our comfort zone. For the transportation, the money we need to pay for the bus is really expensive compare to Taiwan. It is also not convenient that they will not tell you what is the next stop, we need to keep notice on when are we going to get off the bus. When it is dark at night and only with some street lights, it is really hard to see outside, we will need to use our phone to check where are we. For the medical problem, even though we have health insurance, but it is not always be full paid, only some certain places. Seeing a doctor here is really expensive, especially for the dentist, our insurance does not include that. It also takes time to wait and the doctor are not as kind as the doctor in Taiwan, if you are not seriously injured or sick that makes you feel you almost die, do not go to a doctor, you will have a high percentage to be “send home”. The medical resource and doctor in Taiwan is extremely awesome, but don’t bring the habit to Australia, or you will only bring back bad experience.(357字)

(五)大三出國建議

For people who is interest in hospitality, I really recommend choosing International College of Hotel Management (ICHM) for your study abroad. You can definitely gain lots of knowledge from the courses, but there is also lots of assignment. However, don’t need to be afraid, the school always teach and give help whenever we have questions on our assessment. ICHM also helps a lot for industry placement, they teach you how to make your resume, how to deal with the questions in interview and held a career fair for students to build their network. Since, you already choose to study abroad, try to get out of the comfort zone, go and experience new things, make new friends, you will then grow a lot and have a really unforgettable memory in your life. To choose the city to have intern, you don’t need to follow where other people go, just choose wherever you want, even it’s only you, don’t be afraid, take it as a new adventure and explore it, you will meet a lot of kind people helping you.(182字)

(六)其他

For my half year intern, I choose to work in Southern Ocean Lodge in Kangaroo Island, which is located under Adelaide. I started to work as a housekeeper from the end of December 2018 till early August 2019. The place I work is really remote, if you don’t have car you can go anywhere. It even takes around an hour to drive to the town. As its name Kangaroo Island, there are many kangaroos living in this island, they are really crazy animal that like to jump to the car when the car gets near to them. Also the internet and signal here is really poor, I can only have signal in certain places. But it is a really nice place for me to save money and keep me away from shopping, and people here are all very kind, so overall I am satisfying with my intern and my choice.(149字)
