Studying abroad is different from Taiwan, such as the courses they offer and the way they teach. With six months studying in William Angliss, I had chosen four courses, including Foundation Academic Communication Skills, Food and Beverages Operations, Fundamentals of the Resort and Hotel Industry and Rooms Division. All those courses having both theory and practical classes, I have to say, Food and Beverage Operations is the most interesting and helpful course. In theory class, teacher introduced some basic ideas of the restaurant, like various type of menu, wine knowledge, importance of dietary requirements and many more. These knowledge help me get on track soon at practical class, without having theory class beforehand, I would be confused and not knowing what teacher is talking about. Practical class is helpful cause we were servicing actual customers in the training restaurant every once a week. In the first class our teacher Kylie show us how to do the briefing, which is crucial to do it properly, with this we can get the floor ready before the guest come into restaurant. After this, we learned table setting, three plate carry, napkin folding and so on. With about fifteen students in one class, we divided into few groups and play different role in every week. In class, we got chances to learn how to take responsible in various section in the restaurant, including bar, kitchen, host, floor and manager. We start servicing guest in the second class, and it is not easy at all. Fine dinning restaurant has big difference from leisure restaurant, it’s more formal and need more skills. I was nervous when the guest come in, I greet them, seat them down and take their order. It was quite a mess for me, as not having any experience. However, with more practices, it has go better in the following weeks. Being manager, I learned how to make floor plan, assign the job properly to everyone and clearly demonstrate to others; being waiters, I learned to follow manager’s command. In this course I had learn so much and I believe it would help me to get into hospitality industry in the near future.(362字)

(三)生活環境

William Angliss is located in the CBD, which is surrounded by public transportation, you can take train, bus, tram or even walk, if living in the city. The campus is small and full of international students, which is interesting to have classes with them, studying with people from different culture background you can learn more and have fun. There are also some good restaurants and cafe close by, just about ten-minute walk. The first couple months I was living in the suburb, there are both pros and cons, the rent is lower then the city, and the environment is more quiet. With two months staying there, I have seen some different views and know the train system better, that it is easier for me when I want to travel somewhere further. On the other hand, it will take more time to get to campus. I woke up much earlier then others who are living in the city. In the third month, I decided to move to city, which is exciting. City has more night life and more convenience. The tram system is great, it let me explore more places, not to mention the free tram zone. There are few attractions can be visited by tram for free, or you can just hop on and go around the city. For food, there are tons of good café and restaurants in Melbourne, it’s worth to give them a try, they serve both high quality of coffee and food. Having breakfast on the weekend can make your day. Chinese and Korean restaurants are also a great option if you are not into western food. (272字)

(四)自我成長

The expenses in Australia is much higher than Taiwan, not only food but transportation. It is hard to eat out for every meal, for this, I try to cook by myself or with roommate. Sometimes you can find some really good deal in the supermarket, and it is also fun to do something new. Another problem about living in Melbourne is finding an apartment. It is not easy to find an ideal place, there is lots of things to be considered, like the rent, environment and the bills. If you are looking for a share house, you might also take risk with not knowing who is your roommate. After comparing few apartments and do the inspection in person, I had ended up the one in the city, which is about five minutes walk to the supermarket and various restaurants. Talking about the school, I am surprised that I am having class with lots of international students and just few local students. Many of them are from Asia countries and have lived in Melbourne for couple years. It is good to meet some new people and learn their culture, having chat with them can always learn something. However, it’s not great to improve English ability. Studying and living abroad is different from traveling, it’s a little bit challenging for me. When facing the problem, I get panic and don’t know what to do, I’m too afraid to make the decision. After few months living in Australia, I feel I have grow a lot, I realize there is lots of things I can do but I never thought of, and making decision is actually not that hard, sometimes it just need to be bold. (五)大三出國建議

Study hard and play hard. Be focus in class, I’m sure you will learn a lot. Ask whenever you have any problem, teacher is always willing to help us. If you have any question about assignment, you can also ask teacher through email or get help in the library. Apart from studying, there is lots of free time after school, and this is the time to get planned. It is such a great opportunity to do the things you love and explore more. William Angliss has also offer short courses, that you can learn how to make coffee or pastry, it would be fun for someone who is interested in. Other than that, Melbourne is the city that hold wide variety of events in different seasons. There are few websites you can find out some interesting activities to join or do the volunteer. For me, one of the best things studying in Australia is it allows me to travel a lot, either with friends or by myself. It is easy to fly to another city to see something different. I have been to few different cities, the most unforgettable one is the journey to Uluru, this is actually not a place in my list, however I’m overwhelmed. The view is spectacular, and traveling with group of friends has even make the trip much more fun. With four-days tour I had experience a lot that I never had, like sleeping under the stars, it is amazing. I highly recommend to make some travel plan when having a year study in Australia. Another thing to mention, once settle down, get a part time job is also an option, to accumulate some working experience might help you to find a job for internship, and make some extra money. (六)其他

The best thing studying in William Angliss is I got chance to do internship abroad and save some money at the same time. Working in luxury lodge on Kangaroo Island, I have met so many people from all over the world, they speak different languages and share different stories. People came here for various reasons, it is interesting to have chat and learn something from them. The lodge is small and surrounded by nature, I can always see kangaroo or wallaby in front of my room. It also allows me to snorkel and swim in the ocean with friends after work. Working few months on the island, I have done and seen so many things that I never did, and I’m so glad to make friends from different countries. (130字)
