2018大三出國輔導通報系統 - 留學心得報告[編輯]

(一)基本資料

During the third year of my university, I chose the Emirates Academy of Hospitality in Dubai as half study and half internship program. The semester in the school is different from the other countries, it started on the 10th of September to the end of December. After the first semester in EAHM, we’re going to start our 6 months internship in hotels in Dubai. In the Emirates Academy, students can select 5 courses maximum in one semester which they want and some of the classes tend to practical and creative.(89字)

(二)課程學習

We started learning since we just arrived in Dubai such as the extremely hot weather, inconvenient place to buy things and higher cost of money if we eating outside. Life in Dubai can be divided into three parts. First part is when we are studying in the EAHM. It’s really fun that when we just joined, the student association prepared an orientation for all the new joiners including BBA, MBA and SA student to help us know Dubai and EAHM well. After a happy and sweet period, we started to study seriously. We have so many group reports need to do and It’s really strict in EAHM that we cannot skip the class or sleep during the class without permission, every day is like living in the hell. The most impressive for me in the EAHM is all the class are requested for making reports and present formally to the professor. Actually, it’s a big challenge for me because in Taiwan, we can just pass the course without presentation in some of the classes. Luckily, we have basic ideas because I found that most of the topic of the report that we did already in Tamkung University. During this period, we also have to find a job for our internship. The principle for the SA program student n EAHM, Ms Marina helped us to apply the hotels for the internship and arranged all the things such as interviews and job descriptions. Thus, we were really under stress in the first three months but also learned many things and we overcame it. The second part is like an exploration of Dubai. The reason I call it is we finally started to go out and enjoy my life in Dubai. It’s the only one month between the end of the semester and the start of the internship. This is our happiness month, we went to Abu Dhabi and some of my friends went to Europe to enjoy their short but lovely vacations. During this month, I went to many places in Dubai and accumulated experience in Dubai, that also help me well now. ( I’m working in the hotel concierge desk now.) Last but not least, the most important part was coming. After the sweet month, I started my journey in a luxury hotel. (386字)

(三)生活環境

Still remember that when we just got the Dubai International Airport, we said that the weather is nice. However, when we just went outside of the airport, we were realized what is hot and dry in the desert. At the first day in EAHM, we were all surprised that the Burj Al Arab is just in the opposite of our school. Before, we can only saw its pictures in the textbook. Honestly, the location of EAHM is really inconvenienced for us because we prefer to cook by ourselves, and the supermarket is 15 minutes far from our accommodation by walk. For the facilities in EAHM, there is an outdoor swimming pool, but I didn’t use it since it’s too hot outside. In addition, there are two restaurants on the campus, one of them provides buffet lunch (45 AEDs= 384NTDs), another one is selling sandwiches and salads. There is nothing nearby our school, so we need to call a taxi company to get a taxi if we want to go out. The most satisfying part is the accommodation in EAHM, it is like a single studio with equipped kitchen and bathroom, and they also provide free laundry and chargeable housekeeping service. Talk about the weather in Dubai, as I said, it’s really hot and dry outside. However, it doesn’t matter what the weather outside because we are always staying in the indoor with A/C. For transportation, we are normally using taxi, bus and metro to go everywhere. The price of the taxi is more affordable than we thought. For the metro and bus just need to buy a Nol Card, around 3-6 AEDs per way. (277字)

(四)自我成長

The most challenged for me is absolutely the internship. I’m doing my internship in Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel, a well-known business hotel in Dubai because Sheikh Zayed, the president of Dubai’s office is located on the top of our hotel. Therefore, there are so many celebrities stay in our hotel such as ambassadors, CEOs and delegations from other countries. I’m the front office intern so that I have to learn all the things about the front office. For example, in the beginning, I was working in reception, then I need to know how to do everything about “money” such as check-in and check-out for the guest. After the reception, I went to the concierge, I need to understand everything about Dubai and provide all the things that the guest wants. After concierge, I went to club executive lounge, this is a place which combines F&B and FO. In the club ex, the guest pays for a higher rate and expecting a better catering and personal service. As an intern, I need to learn everything and give assistance to every department when they need me. Nowadays, there are so many Chinese people come to Dubai for vacation. That’s why all the hotels here are looking for Chinese speakers. Sometimes they even call us when we are not on duty. To be honest, I’m really under stress every day during the internship. But I believe that I will do things better after this internship, we pain and we grew up, my brother always tells me that “increase the value of being used.” (266字)

(五)大三出國建議

In general, working in Dubai was a good decision for me. This is a multicultural working environment, all the colleagues came from different countries. I learned a lot of things from here, not only about the job, but I also learned how to deal with interpersonal relationship. Sometimes a misunderstanding may cause a fight or even make me depressed, but after that, I became stronger and I know next time I will do it better. My suggestion for those who want to come to Dubai, just enjoy life in Dubai because you don’t know will you come back again or not. And also, if you need any assistance about the internship, don’t be shy, just ask, or they will never give you. Besides that, it is very important to experience the hotel from Jumeirah if you are a Jumeirah colleague. All the Jumeirah colleague has a big discount for the stay at all the hotel from Jumeirah, until now I’ve tried more than three luxury hotels in Dubai. It was amazing, we have to know how their services good and then we can serve. The most impressive thing for me in Dubai is their Ramadan, which is started on the 6th of May 2019 for one month. This is very tremendous and serious for U.A.E, people are now allowed to eat or drink in the public area. Therefore, all the restaurants are closed during the day on Ramadan. Before, I learned the information about Ramadan in class, but I didn’t know what it is exactly. After this internship, I understand that people in U.A.E are very respected to each other and the middle-east is not like a mystery for me anymore.(288字)

(六)其他

Working in such big hotel group like Jumeirah, they have a mystery guest from the head office to evaluate the hotel operation twice a year, called LQA (Leading Quality Assurance). I was very lucky, so I did check-out for the LQA guest. After that, I’ve got a good result of evaluation from the LQA, it was really a great experience for me. (63字)
