Among the courses that I‘ve studied in the study abroad program, “Delivering Guest Service Practicum” is the course that I like the most. Our lecturer. Richard, he is highly experienced in the domain of food and beverage industry, I really gain great amount of knowledge from him. In this course, I‘ve learnt the standard procedure to serve guests in the restaurant. For example, the correct way to welcome guests, the way to order meals (drinks, entree, main course...etc.), the right procedure to present and pour the wine which guests ordered, the technique to carry three plates, last but not least, the most interest parts are wine making and tasting classes and coffee making classes, which are very useful when we are in charge of the bar. Practical courses is a very valuable experience for me. We can perform the professional knowledge that we gained in class at three places, which are Tiros and Graduate restaurant (owned by our campus) and convention center in Adelaide. Through working in a real workplace, we can learn from mistakes and face real guests. By practicing in the restaurants and function again and again, I really gained lots of experiences from my partners, peers, and lecturers, and improve myself and perform better at the following shifts. I polished lots of skills during those shifts. For example, problem solving skills, sometimes we will face some unexpected problems, in this case, we can gain more experience and learn how to solve the problems from lecturer, which is a very good learning material that we can know how to deal with the issue when it exist in the future. In addition, be a good team player is of vital importance when we are in the workplace, I sharpened my team work skills with my peers in the restautant, without good team work skills, we cannot run the restaurant smoothly, so it is very important to work closely with our peers and learn from each other. All in all, I really enjoy gaining professional skills from Richard and learning with my classmates in ICHM!(348字)

(三)生活環境

I absolutely think that ICHM provides students a great place to stay. Students can choose to live in RIH, which is very comfortable for us to live. If we choose to live in RIH, it only take five minutes for us to reach the campus, which is very convenient. Also, the living condition is pretty great, we can have our own bedroom and share a bid living room with other four roommates, the living room is a very good place to have fun and study with friends. In addition, RIH provides three meals each day for us so that we don’t need to worry about meals every day, if we want something new to eat, we can take bus for 30 minutes to the city, there are lots of restaurants and stores for us to choose. Although the transportation is not as convenient as other big city, we can enjoy a slow pace life in Adelaide, which can be a unforgettable experience. Also, there are lots of tourists attractions for us to visit, such as zoo, hahndorf, beach and so on. When it comes to the weather, sometimes it will be extremely hot at summer so sunscreen is needed, and need to keep warm during winter as there is a great temperature difference. I absolutely think that Adelaide is a great place to study and have fun.(227字)

(四)自我成長

During this year of study abroad, I stepped out my comfort zone and experienced lots of novel things that I have not tried before. To be honest, before I came to Australia, I was full of anxiety about this unfamiliar country, but after I came to Australia, I released my worries. I met new friends from other countries, learned about Australian culture, gain knowledge that I cannot experience in Taiwan, savor Australian life to the full, sightseeing and visit different cities to expand my horizon and enrich my mind. When it come to the difficulties I met, it is a little bit hard to adapt myself into an English environment at the beginning, but after a few weeks I get used to the environment and my English has improved. Immersing in English environment is the best way to improve your English. As for the difficulties that meet in daily life, to be honest, I did not face big problems on my daily life, as the teacher and staff in ICHM is really helpful, they are very willing to help if we need assistance. In addition, friends and peers will help each other so that we can solve problems together so we can cope with the problems with ease. When it comes to the most difficult part—internship, as I’m doning my internship at housekeeping department, which is the hardest job in the hotel. I struggled at the beginning as we need to meet both time management and perfect presentation of the room. Through the training that provided by ICHM and Park Hyatt, I’m able to finish the rooms that the hotel assigned, which makes me have a sense of achievement. Although housekeeping is a very tough job, we can polish lots of skills and meet different people, which is an indispensable working experience in my life! (308字)

(五)大三出國建議

For students who major in tourism management, it is better to choose ICHM when you study abroad. Not only can you gain professional knowledge about hotel management, but can do internship at five-star hotel as well, which can be a valuable experience for you guys. The are lots of benifits to study in ICHM. First, ICHM is a college which has great reputation, all of the lecturers are highly experienced in hotel management so we can learn a lot from them. Next, when it comes to internship, it is very easy to get the position and the hotel you want as ICD manager will assist you and recommend or match you to the preferred hotel. We can really gain experiences that we cannot learn in the classroom, by the way, the salary is very attracting, which can pay for all the daily needs. All in al, ICHM is the best choice for ITM students!(154字)
