2018大三出國輔導通報系統 - 留學心得報告[編輯]

(一)基本資料

During my junior year, I studied at William Angliss Institute, from July, 2018 to July, 2019. This school is located at Melbourne in Australia. The first semester I studied resort and hotel management at WAI, and the second semester I did internship in a hotel. (43字)

(二)課程學習

We have to choose four courses in the first semester, fundamentals of the resort and hotel industry, rooms division operations, food and beverage operations, foundation academic communication skills. Food and beverage operations is the most interesting course among four courses. It is a practical class, in this class, the tutor taught us a lot of skills of being a server. We have to serve guests every week, the photo is my tutor and classmates, after the end of this class, we also became friends. I have learned a lot in this class, first of all, the table setting. It is one of the important things for a restaurant, we have three different set ups, a la carte, function and buffet, we must remember each set up style. The sequence of service is also a major thing that we need to pay attention. Moreover, the tutor also taught us the knowledge about coffee, beer, cocktail and mocktails. It was my first time to make coffee by myself, I can make different types of coffee, such as expresso, latte, cappuccino and flat white. I think it is an advantage for me to find a job in a coffee shop, restaurant or other relevant jobs. Furthermore, customers usually order wine from the wine list, so we must know how to make cocktail or mocktail, and then serve the wine to customers. Three plates carry, wine pour and the table setting are what I learned the most in this course. Although there still have a lot of things that I did not do my best, but if I try to remember all the useful skills learned from this course, I think I can do well during my work in the future. The most important reason that I love this course is because it is a practical class, and it can help me have the real experience to serve customers. (315字)

(三)生活環境

William Angliss Institute is a small school, and it locates in the city of Melbourne, the design of the building in this school is very common. However, William Angliss Institute is famous for hospitality management, tourism, events, food and beverage and culinary, as a result, we can find their own kitchen and restaurant in this school. If you study at WAI, you have to find the accommodation by yourself. In the first two months in Australia, I lived in a house with many Taiwanese, and it was far away from central business district of Melbourne, we had to take the train to school every day, although it was not easy to go to school, but the life in suburban district was really relaxing. Turning to the life in city, it is different from the life in suburb, we can buy everything we want and find many Chinese and specialty restaurants in the city. The living cost in Australia is expensive for me, in order to save money, I usually cook at home, I think it is also a good opportunity for me to practice my cooking skills. The weather in Melbourne is very fickle, it has been described as having four seasons in one day, I usually bring my coat if I have to work until night. However, it is easy to catch public transport in Melbourne, such as train, bus and tram, and people can take the tram for free within Melbourne’s CBD. Overall, I love this city, if I have a chance to come back, I want to take my family together and tell them about my experience in Melbourne. (273字)

(四)自我成長

The living style in Melbourne is a little bit different from Taiwan. At the beginning, I should make myself get used to this new environment, everything is new to me, like the weather, it is colder than Taiwan in winter and there have four seasons in one day. Moreover, you can see people from different country in Melbourne, especially Asians. I think communication is not a big problem if you can speak basic English, and not afraid of talking to foreigner. For me, I have met a lot of new friends in this year, we shared our stories, our culture background, and the reasons of staying in Melbourne. In my opinion, it is really a good opportunity to broaden my horizon, to know more about the people from different culture, and share the experience together. Turning to my leaning environment, it is obvious that I have to improve my English ability. Sometimes I do not really understand about what professor want me to do, and I will make some mistakes. However, it seems to me that it is because I am afraid of speaking English and I am worried about the grammar I used was wrong, then I realized speak out is the key thing, there is nothing to worry about, I only have to talk. Last but not least, I have learned a lot during this year, I think I am braver than I believe. Studying abroad is a good chance to leave my comfort zone, and try to push my limits. (253字)

(五)大三出國建議

From my point of view, if you are not satisfied with your life, it is time to leave your comfort zone, try to do things that you never do before. You may feel everything is challenged at the beginning, but you only have to keep moving, and you will find that you are braver that you believe. I would like to give some advices for those who choose William Angliss institute during your junior year. First of all, you have to know that you may fail the course if you do not turn in your assignment by the deadline, and they strictly prohibit plagiarism, you can't copy the answers from the internet or your classmates. Secondly, everyone has to do internship in the second semester, William Angliss Institute will provide the job opportunity instead of finding the job for you, so you must find the job by yourself. To be honest, it is hard to find a job with no experience in Melbourne, but I think you can find the job you want if you keep trying to put your resume on the job advertisement site. Lastly, try to make this year become memorable. Think about that, the opportunity of studying abroad is rare, don’t miss any chance. You will discover many beautiful things here, give yourself some courage to start your journey. Last but not least, remember to be careful when you do anything, and the most important thing is that don’t forget to share your life to your family. (253字)
