During study abroad program, I took four courses in Emirates Academy, which are Front Office Operations, Housekeeping Operations, English Composition & Rhetoric and Beginner’s Arabic. No doubt to say that teachers in Emirates Academy are professional in their own field, furthermore, they are always willing to answer students’ questions with patient. In my opinion, Beginner’s Arabic course is the most interesting, memorable and cultural lesson that I took in EAHM. In class, teacher Christane who is from Syria, teaching Arabic. She provided different sorts of materials to make the course more diverse and interesting, for instance, I got two textbooks, one CD as the class began. In addition, she prepared lots of handouts for us to make sure the information that we received was complete and clear. Moreover, she is a creative teacher, for example, she invented different kind of games, taught us Arabic songs and brought us to Arabic restaurant to have dinner. When it comes to the Arabic restaurant, the most impressive part is that I had the opportunity to talk with the Arabic speaker. I believe that this is a very effective way to assist me remember the language in limited time. However, during the trimester in Housekeeping Operations course. Our teacher, Susan Butterton, she arranged some fieldtrip for us to get more familiar to housekeeping department, for instance, she brought us to the Jumeirah laundry factory, Queen Elizabeth 2 ship and she also invited a housekeeper to make a speech in class. As a whole, I consider that housekeeping operation is an educational and practical course. Last but not least, the most important class for me: English Composition & Rhetoric. In class, we had to write an essay, diary and finish reading reflection per week. What’s more, since there were some group reports that we had to finish, it helped me to recognize lots of friends from different countries. In conclusion, I really enjoyed taking these courses in Emirates Academy. (324字)

(三)生活環境

Emirates Academy provides a great environment for students. In my opinion, the dorm is amazing, it includes the bathroom, kitchen, refrigerator, full-length mirror, a bed and a fantastic view of Burj Al Arab, furthermore, they prepared shampoo, shower gel, fruits, a bottle of juice and milk when I checked in, which was really thoughtful and made me feel welcome. However, the only thing made me disappoint was that they didn’t provide hair dryer. Except for the accommodation, there are lots of facilities on campus: outdoor swimming pool, tennis court, basketball court and indoor gym. Therefore, I am not worry about after class I would get bored. When it comes to transportation in Dubai, they usually take taxi, Uber, bus or metro. To be honest, you will not want to stay outdoors during noon or in a high temperature, so I recommend to take taxi. There is a bus station near to the school, it takes 10-15 minutes by walk. By the way, I really like the Mall of Emirates which is not far away from the campus, it takes 8-15 minutes by taxi, or you can take the bus which number is 81, it costs 3 dirhams which is about 24 TWD. The best part is that there is a Carrefour in this mall, so that you don’t need to worry about the daily necessities. For food and drink, there are lots of Chinese restaurant in Dubai, thus you don’t need to worry about it. Additionally, you can download an application: 溫超商城, which is really useful for students when you don’t have time to go out. In the app, you can find out different sorts of ingredients, vegetables, desserts, dumplings, and etc. The best thing is they will send your order straight away to your room.(296字)

(四)自我成長

Time flies, I have been to Dubai for nine months, this is the first time that I stay in foreign country for such a long time. There are some problems that I met during these months. First, I can still remember the day when I arrived in Dubai, I was extremely uncomfortable, because Dubai is a desert climate, therefore, my skin, lips and eyes became dry and itchy. To deal with the climate problem, I used the facial mask at least four times a week, gradually, my skin situation became stable, however, it took some time for me to get used to the climate. Second, owing to Dubai is an international city, I can hear different sorts of English-speaking accents. In my opinion, the Indian style English is the most difficult to understand, especially for the taxi driver, it is really hard to explain the location, so I always well prepare my google map in case of facing communication problem. Fortunately, as a frequent guest of taxi and Uber, at least I can understand what they say now. Finally, when it comes to the cultural side, Dubai is dominated by Muslim religion, thus, the first impression for me is sexual discrimination, but the thing impressed me is that they have established some facilities to guarantee female right, for example, women and children cabin, female private swimming pool, the priority desk, etc. During the internship, I didn’t feel any Arabic colleagues disrespecting me but for some Arabic guests they never greet to me or even look at you, sometimes it makes me feel disappointed. However, I get used to it then I found out that if I don’t care much I won’t be upset. Overall, this is the most precious and unforgettable year in my university life. Thanks to this study abroad program, I have the opportunities to make foreign friends, go to lots of Dubai attractions, work at Burj Al Arab, learn knowledge of hospitality and enjoy the feeling of homesickness. Although I cannot control everything in daily life will go smooth or in perfect, at least I stepped out of my comfort zone to experience the failures and gained the valuable experiences from the mistakes. (五)大三出國建議

During foreign times, all you have to do is enjoying studying, making friends, trying different kinds of cuisine as well as learning how to take care of yourself. Although you will feel lonely, no need to worry, just facetime your family, call your friends, everyone will support you and be with you. In my opinion, self-emotional management is important especially you are abroad. For me, when I was upset, I will go to gym, play guitar, hang out with my friends or have a nice dinner. In addition, if you want to do the internship at Burj Al Arab please don’t think it will be as if you were working in the paradise. After all, Burj Al Arab has the title of the most luxurious hotel in the world, thanks to the title, lots of travelers will come to visit it, thus it must be really busy every day. Although you will obtain a good job title, you have to be long-suffering in the beginning, as you get used the environment, everything will become smooth. To my experience, it is worth working in this hotel. Thus, if you want to work in Burj Al Arab, please apply for the job and ask me as many questions as you want. Hope you can become an independent person during study abroad. (220字)
