It is very difficult for me to pick a favorite class that I have been taking during study abroad. The reason is that all of them are interested and worth taking. If I really have to pick one, that would be “Web programming”. First of all, the course is related to my major. I can lean and gain technique aspect knowledge. Second, when I couldn’t pin down the code that professor taught us, I am able to watch the video on the Canvas which the professor Shi recorded during the lecture, which is the website like iClass so that we could listen again and go over the logic at home. If we still couldn’t understand, he would start over the lab and taught the detailed step by step. Although he created a lot of labs, he gave us sufficient time to work on. He wants us to not only memorize but fully understand the logic. At the end of the semester, when I was doing the final project, I barely don’t need his help to complete the project. He taught us using other programming techniques besides HTML such as JQuery, javascript, building a cookie in the website, creating a game in the website and Linux. It was challenging and I did spend some time to complete one lab. Fourth, professor Shi comes from China so he is very caring for international student. For example, he made a study group on Canvas so that an international student like me can interact with some local students. He said don’t do the assignment by ourselves, we can try using English to figure out how to do the programming. Last but not least, when I had an emergency circumstance like having errors and I couldn't correct on my own, professor Shi always welcomes us to walk to his office and discuss the problem. Now, I am like studying web design. (320字)

(三)生活環境

After almost ten months studied at Temple University, Philadelphia becomes my niche. The apartment has three bedrooms and three bathrooms. I am satisfied with the location. The building is in the middle of two subway station so it is very convenient for my roommates and I visiting the center city or other places. Additionally, it is near to the main campus and IELP’s main office. It only takes me five to ten minutes to walk to school. However, there is a supermarket, fresh grocer, near to our apartment. If I need to buy some ingredients, don’t need to take any transportation to get there. The two favorite places that I like to go to in the free time in Temple University is the writing center and tech center. Writing center is not only a place which has volunteers who can correct students grammar but also has conversation partners which can practice our speaking skills. All of the conversation partners are native speaker from Temple University student. I had signed up a conversation partner once to practice my speaking skill. Becky who is my conversation partner is nice and adorable. She told me a lot of amazing restaurants around campus to go to in the free time such as Yummy Pho, Rich’s and so on. Another place that I willing to spend much time in is Tech center. There are many computers and comfortable chairs. I always finish my assignments in the Tech center before I go back home. When I had free time between class and class, I would stay there browsing websites and take a rest until the class began. When I was going to leave the United States, I feel reluctant because I have been used to everything in Philly like the weather, people and living environment. (302字)

What did I overcome? I think the answer is using English to solve the problem. I stayed in Philadelphia for 10 months and it was cold weather for seven to eight months. Philadelphia not only has snow in winter but also has a strong wind. In that weather, my skin has a lot of conditions. I have sensitive and dry skin. After staying there for two months, I got some red rash on my body. I have to make an appointment at the Health Center and tried to used English to communicate with the doctor. From this experience, I used English to my difficulties and more independent. Another thing that I have to get used to it is learning style. Student usual interacting with the teacher in the USA, but it is different in Taiwan. To American students, raising a hand and asking a question is the fundamental behavior. Asking a question during the lecture is a common behavior in the USA. When I started to take classes in the United States, each professor told us that if we have any question, just ask and don’t be hesitated. Saying your thought and asking questions are also part of the score of participate. Studying at foreigner country is challenging for me. I used to rely on Taiwan’s education, but at that time I was adapting another learning style.(228字)

(五)大三出國建議

If you have to go to IELP in the first semester, it will be a great time for you to meet foreigners and explore the city. Temple University has many clubs and organizations that can let you participate. I highly recommend "Freely Magazine" which is a media channel for the international students to share our cultural, raise our voice and receive specific content that improves our study aboard experience. It also includes an event calendar that keeps us up-to-date on events both at Temple University and in the greater Philadelphia area. After joining an event, You have one week to write about your thoughts and what you learned from it. Four students can help you correct the grammar. They all come from the writing center so don't hesitate to ask them questions. "Freely Magazine" is a great organization for you to practice writing, go to any kind of events and meet lots of foreigners if you join it. I have learned a lot from them. Do not think that your artical won't be posted on the website. You never know you can do better than you thought. (187字)
