During the first year of study in ICHM, students are required to learn basic levels of hospitality management. Food and Beverage Service Standard & Delivering Guest Service, these two courses are correlated, and it was undoubtedly the most favourite class that I’ve previously undertaken on campus. Food and Beverage Service Standard & Delivering Guest Service is designed to provide student with an understanding of the basic knowledge and skills required in the delivery of Food & Beverage service standard. In the beginning of the semester student has developed an understanding of the F&B theory based on service standard and product knowledge. The curriculum was divided into several topics, in a very beginning of the lessons, student has learned the concepts of managing excellent dining service. Moreover, the other parts were covering some basic knowledge of beverage service, including beer service, wine service, coffee making, tea service, so student has to learn a lot of concepts and knowledge in order to demonstrate the professional skills. From the middle of the semester, students are assigned to have two shifts in convention centre Adelaide, and dining service shifts in Tiro’s restaurant and graduate restaurant. Through learning the operation of guest service skills, students are capable to deliver an appropriate guest service. While working in the convention centre, students are able to demonstrate the fundamental skills which they learn from the Food & Beverage lecture. On the other hand, working in the restaurant requires students to demonstrate a range of well-developed operational and professional skills, a higher level of professional skills are required in restaurant service. Indeed, students are learning different perspective of restaurant service through the practical sessions in convention centre and dining restaurant. After student has accomplished the practical sessions, students were able to show their professionalism in the workplace. A professional workers are responsible for their own behaviour and work effectively with your team member, moreover, communicating effectively with the guests is also an essential part of restaurant service.(327字)

(三)生活環境

I stayed at on-campus accomodation during the studies at ICHM. Overall, the living environment was really nice and comfy, the housing equipped with a spacious lounge which you can share with other three roommates, and also we have our own private room, the room got everything you expect, a desk, a comfy bed and closets, also if the weather is getting cold, you can turn on heater, besides, the weather is getting hot before we leave the campus, but don’t worry, you can switch on the ceiling fan if the room is hot, so it is not necessary to buy a fan. The transportation in the city centre of Adelaide was quite convenient, it is easy access to your destination by taking bus or trams. After I got my job offer in Perth, I moved to a share house, the house owner is Taiwanese, so I didn’t spend a lot of time to get used to the new environment. The cost of living in Perth is quite similar to Adelaide, and actually the living environment has no huge differences to Adelaide, so if you are such a person that enjoy the night life, this place would not be the best for you to stay for a long period of time. However, I really enjoy the life of Perth, people here in Perth are really nice and friendly, the weather is nice the food was okay, nothing more I can complain about. (243字)

Studying in overseas country is a good opportunity to train yourself to become a critical thinker, the concepts of critical thinking is to have the ability to think clearly and rationally, understanding the logical connection between ideas. During the placement in Australia, I encountered some situations that helps me to develop my critical thinking skills. For example, when dealing with guest complaints, I have to understand why this situation happens, and what is the proper way to approach problems. Besides, dealing with guest complaints can be difficult, because it may involves dealing with their emotions, if the customers are having a negative experience, how you react plays an important role in changing their perceptions to a positive one.(118字)

(五)大三出國建議

For those who are planning to study abroad in ICHM, I suggest you to spend some time on practising your writing skills, the reason is because you will start your first ICHM assessment very soon. ICHM is really strict to the assessment format, each assessment is required to follow the standard. Before you start your first assessment, please make sure you are fully prepared, but don’t worry too much, your teacher will guide you through the process, so if you have any questions, just ask your teacher, teachers are willing to help you. By the way, please don’t forget to put your formal attires like white shirts and suite in your luggage before you get ready to go to ICHM, for boys, black socks, shoes is required, for girls, high heels are required for some certain occasion. You are not able to get the uniform as soon as you arrive ICHM, so you have to keep wearing your own suits for few months. Some lecturer is really care about your wearing, so don’t forget to dress up properly before class starts. At the end of this reflection, I have to say ICHM is the best choice for you, there are lots of benefits for choosing ICHM as your junior abroad. As a student of ICHM, I received a lot of supports, the school not just only giving me some academic support but also giving me supports to achieve my goals in workplace during my placement. Here I have some suggestions and plans for your trip to Australia. I have travelled to five cities in Australia, and planning to go to Gold Coast before I leave Australia, if I have to pick one of the most favourite city, I would definitely choose Sydney as must-visit cities among all, the weather is super nice, and you can have a lot of fun here in Sydney.(316字)
