(一)基本資料

Indiana University of Pennsylvanian, Indiana. Stayed from August 20 to June 10. I took English Writing, Business Marketing, Macroeconomic, World Politic, World Geography.(21字)

(二)課程學習

My favorite course in IUP is English Writing. My professor is a Japanese; he is an enthusiastic person. I was the only Asian student in the class, so he was really nice to me and always give me a lot of encourage and opinions. I never liked English Writing, but i learned a lot of basic writing skills from this course like how to write a formal email or how to do various formats for every different situation. We’ve done four main projects in the semester, and all od these projects make me think about my future. He leads us to think about how to combine our major to our future career. The first project is a self introduction about the reason why I chose my major, and what I want to be in my future. In the second project, he made us to do a research about what career that our our major is related. It was really fun to do the research of my own major, I benefit a lot from that. And the third project is my favorite one, we all have to interview to a professor in our own department. It was a great experience to talk to Dr. Branscum. About the last project, it was my first time doing a personal presentation in the states. I was super nervous at first and gladly I didn’t make any big mistake, professor and my classmates are really nice they gave me a lot of encourage. Before taking this class I never really thought about what am i going to do after graduation, but this course and these four projects did make me at least have a clue of my own future. I understand my own major more and like it more.(296字)

(三)生活環境

I lived in the dorm, and the building called Wallwork Hall. I have a American roommate named Julia, she is a sweetheart. We don't really hang out much because of different lifestyle, she is an early bird and i am a night owl, but we never had any argument or complain. We live in a double- private suit, we share a small kitchen and a shower but we have our own bedroom space, i like it a lot . People told me Indiana is a college town, there's nothing around here. But there're some restaurant on Philadelphia Street, and you can also go grocery shopping in Walmart. You can get there in 15 mins by No.12 school shuttle. About the weather, there's a lot of differences. I am a dry skin person, so i need A LOT of lotions and body oil. In the winter here, it snows sometimes and I honestly love that (I also love my new Oggs, ha!) I never seen snow before i came to the states, and it is an amazing experience for me. (177字)

In my first month, everything is new to me. I was so excited about everything i learned and seen in here. However, I started missing my family and friends in Taiwan. I am really lucky that i have an American boyfriend and a friend who immigrates to the states a while ago, so they do give me some company and go through a lot of difficulties with me. Speaking of the cultural shock, most of my Taiwanese classmates say that they got problem with food. For example, we eat a lot of rice and our rice tastes softer and sweeter; however Americans eat a lot of potato and bread. I don't really have any problem with food but i have to say that i am a breakfast person, i love having breakfast but in the states, they don't really have too many options like Taiwanese do.(146字)

(五)大三出國建議

First, don't bring too many thick jacket or clothes, you can easily get cheaper and better winter clothes in here. And if you are planing on go to travel during winter break, you should book your plane ticket and make a travel plan as earlier as possible. Because during Christmas, hotels and plane ticket are so much more expensive. After these lil tips of coming to the states, i have a story to tell, I still remember once, me and my Taiwanese friends were leaving from the gym at evening, there was a man he asked us where we from. One of my friend misunderstood, she thought he was asking us what kind of language we were speaking so she answered "Chinese". I realized that she made a little mistake, so i explianed for her immediately. I told that guy that we actually from Taiwan and we speak Chinese. And he really pissed me off by telling me "So what? don't y'll are the same?" I told him we have our own flag, own president, own law and we do the election but China don't. Speaking the same language doesn't make two counties the same. He apologized to us, he also told me that he likes my gut, he is so glad that he learned a lesson from me. I was really proud of myself, i feel like self-identify off ur own country is very important, i hope everyone could always remember this.(243字)
