【照片說明：First day of microeconomics】

My favorite class from the fall semester is introduction of international studies, I/ST 200, professor Richard R. Marcus. The reason why I like and hate this class so much is because it is the most challenging class in the university so far. We must read at least 40 to 50 pages of paper per week and write a paragraph of international news using what he taught in class, including PowerPoint, the papers we read and group discussion. Then write a paragraph including the situation analyze and predict what is going to happen next in the future by the theory you use. The professor’s major is more focus on Madagascar’s politics and society, so the class it’s like learning a brand-new part of the world for me. He didn’t use textbook at all, he used PowerPoint instead, the PowerPoint filled with international relationship theories, economic theories, international security. International relationship including the third wave, economic theories including imperialism, colonialism and capitalism. He also talked about the earth is flat, the difference between imperialism, colonialism and capitalism, socialism and communism. International security including the conflict in the middle east, and that’s where he used Huntington’s theories to explain everything to us, history background, culture difference, limited resources and all the other reasons that make the relationship between united states and middle east become so nervous. International arm race, which cause unstable relationship between countries and might trigger the massive destruction if some countries are still trying to develop nuclear weapons. And the class I like the most is the microeconomics, professor Steven Yamarik. He is a great professor, he explains every formula to us carefully, and make sure we learn correctly. He will give us a paper with blanks at the beginning of each class and try to teach us by solving the formula step by step, sometimes he will also show us why and how these global companies are making so much money by the formula he mentions about. (三)生活環境

The campus is large, so if you must get to a classroom in fifteen minutes, but the classroom is on the other side of the campus, you might need to buy a skateboard. The campus is close to basically everything, you can go to target, Vons or even go watch a movie by taking a bus. The only downside of taking a bus is that there are only two buses every hour, so if you miss it, you need to wait another thirty minutes. And the bus won’t come on time, sometimes it will be late, the other time it might come early, so I recommend going to the bus stop at least five to ten minutes early, so you won’t miss the bus. I live in the circle area, it’s only five to ten minutes away from the campus, so it’s convenient. In the circle area, there are supermarkets, food shops, t mobile, and if you want to get some different kind of food, you can take 121 to the Belmont Shore area, there are a few bars and cloth store, or you can take uber to the E Anaheim street, there are several Thai food restaurant, and you can get curry there. You can go to long beach downtown, but it’s really boring to be honest. Not so much shops and it take thirty to forty minutes to go to the downtown, and the downtown area is really dangerous after sunset, there will be many homeless people smoking weed or people getting drunk outside the night club, so if you want to visit long beach downtown, you better leave before sun set.(278字)

(四)自我成長

To be honest, living in America is basically the same as living in Taiwan, you can get the same kind of food, same kind of clothes and listen to same kind of music. I think the first culture difference that bothers me a lot is that they do everything slow, and it’s not just slow, it’s like almost five times slower, it’s so slow that you can’t even imagine. Take buying a pair of pants online for example, if you order that pair of pants from a website which is not amazon, it will be six to twelve working days to transport it from the warehouse to your apartment, but the working days are only five days a week, which means you might need to wait for three weeks to just get a pair of pants. But if you have an amazon account and get amazon prime with your California State University Long Beach student ID, you can basically get anything to your doorstep in two days, so, if you want to buy something, no matter it’s food, cloth or tech stuff like laptop or head set, try to buy it from amazon. And the second thing with is different from Taiwan is that if any product is not fit or you order something online but got charged twice, the only thing you can do is to call the custom service, and you can only do that on working days, which is from Monday to Friday, and it’s inconvenient compare to the custom service in Taiwan. (五)大三出國建議

So, first thing first, you need to find an apartment to stay for an year, I recommend to live in Alvista or Beverly Plaza, both of them located at circle area, which means you can take both buses or school shuttle buses to school and it’s convenient to get groceries, because Vons is right across the street. Second, you need a bank account, Chase is two blocks away, you can walk to there in ten minutes. Third, phone plans, T mobile is also two blocks away, you can get a phone number alone or get a family plan with your friends, that can save you fifteen to twenty dollars a month. And remember to get amazon prime with your student ID, so you can get everything in two days, plus amazon warehouse in right next to the bookstore in the school, so it’s also easy to return the stuff you don’t like or doesn’t fit. But the most important thing is that stop to hang out with your Taiwanese friends or even the Chinese student you meet, it’s a waste of time. you guys both speak the same language and share the same culture, if you go study abroad and still do the same thing as living in Taiwan, why do you waste a year to study abroad. And don’t be shy, go talk to the others at the first day of school, if they ask you where you came from, just tell them, or even get their numbers, getting their numbers is not a big deal, you can chat with them, discuss the class or assignment, or if you are luck enough, them will invite you to party with them.
