Surfing and American culture is my favorite lesson, which is one of the four lessons I took in the second semester of this school. This course examines a popular recreational activity, industry, and lifestyle associated with Southern California: surfing. We will trace the history of surfing and surf culture, connecting it to themes central to American Studies that include colonialism, capitalism, race and gender, the military industrial complex, subcultural studies, environmentalism, and globalization. In addition to in-class activities and discussions, we will get out of the classroom several times this semester, visiting surf shops, checking out the International Surfing Museum in Huntington Beach. Bringing surf culture and American Studies together it really encourages me to develop a relationship with and stewardship for our local beaches along with a deeper understanding of the history, growth and expanding global popularity of surfing. And another class that I like very much and is recommended to everyone is Skills and Methods to Global Leadership. This course develops applied intercultural competencies, scope and methods, and practical skills requisite for success in international studies and international affairs related fields. It introduces a field of inquiry and relevant job skills application focus early in the major sequence. The intent is to build a foundation while seeding the growth of these skills through the existing curriculum at the upper division level. To this end, this course will focus on Intercultural Interpersonal Skills Development (interviewing clients and respondents, working in small teams, intercultural communication in practice, etc.), scope and methods (library research, anatomy of question formulation, questionnaire development, interviewing, etc.), identification and training for jobs related to the field of international studies, and practical skills relevant to jobs in international studies, international affairs, and many other fields. The professor of this class is Dr. Jolene McCall, she is a really nice teacher. When we have problems, she will be very patient to guide us. If we don't understand what she wants us to do, she will be patient and explain to us once again. (335字)

The weather pattern in Los Angeles is similar to that in Taiwan. It is basically only in winter and summer. It is very hot in summer but not as humid as Taiwan. In winter, it is not as cold as Taiwan, so it will not be too cold that we can't stand it. Also, Los Angeles does not rain a lot, it is a dry type, but it still needs to carry an umbrella. Because the climate is relatively dry, after a while, the skin and hair will become drier, it will be fine if you use the lotion every day. I live in a homestay close to the school. There are a total of nine members in our family, four students and a family of five. The distance from the school is only five minutes by bus. I usually take the bus to school or I will go to school by walking sometimes, but it takes about 40 minutes to walk. Students taking the bus of Long Beach Transit are free because we have a tap card for students, it is very convenient. If you want to go out after class or in your free time, taking a bus or a uber is a good choice. There are a lot of shopping malls and outlets in Los Angeles, and also many different supermarkets here, such as Korean supermarkets, Chinese supermarkets or local supermarkets in the United States. If you want to buy some vegetables that are only available in Taiwan, instant noodles or sauces, you can find it here. In addition, the school is a big campus. The most famous building in our school is the pyramid. It is actually a stadium. The appearance is like a pyramid and it is the most famous landmark in our school. There are many different departments on the campus, so every different course will go to different classrooms. I often get lost because I am not familiar with the school environment when I just came here in the first semester! There are also many bus routes here that pass through the school and even come inside the school so that everyone can take the bus to go home or go to other places more conveniently. I think everyone should prepare the information before coming to the United States, to clearly understand what you need and make sure you have the ability to live independently. Pay attention to learning skills here instead of traveling or playing all days, don't feel too relax in only taking 12 credits per one semester, you can play or travel when you are in holidays, but you should prepare for the exams and homework when you are reading. When you come to the United States, you can experience different cultures and lifestyles. You can also feel the humanities and customs of different countries. It is a very good experience for me. I think that in American culture, the teacher pays great attention to the opinions and ideas of the students. Teachers will take a lot of time for the students to discuss the questions or answer the questions, and also English is not our native language, sometimes I don't know how to express my ideas clearly. Many classes need to discuss problems with classmates or write down our own ideas. I often don't know how to answer the questions. I feel that I need to chat with other people to train my listening and speaking skills, don't be shy, that the problem can be solved. There are also many differences in culture. For example, I found that the bus drivers here are very friendly to the disabled. They will patiently guide the disabled to get on the bus and pay attention to their safety. I think it is very good. In addition, there are also differences in the diet. The United States is very popular in fast food restaurants, but the types of restaurants are also a lot, such as Vietnamese, Thai or Mexican. It is a country with multiple cultures. (190字)
