2019大三出國輔導通報系統 - 留學心得報告[編輯]

(一)基本資料

Brandon University is a small university located in the city of Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. I enrolled in the Fall and Winter Term course from 2019 to 2020. In my first semester, I studied English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program. And in my second term, I had Statistics, Web Technology, and Game Programming.(50字)

(二)課程學習

I postponed my junior abroad for one year; therefore, I did not have much pressure on credits during this year. In Brandon University, if you do not approach the standard for attending the official class, you need to go to the EAP course first. To be honest, the class did not avail you much, so you should make your IELTS score as higher as you could before you study aboard. In my official course, Statistics is my favorite, not only the Professor is gentle, but also the atmosphere in class is excellent. Dr. William taught patiently until all students understand what he was teaching about; moreover, we had a Lab course in Statistics, which means students need to make use of additional time to take exams. Sometimes, the professor will give us assignments in the lab, then students could solve the problems by discussing it with one another. If you were still unsure about your answers, you could ask assistants for help. And I also recommend to choose Dr. Richards course, he has a lot of passion for teaching, he always makes interaction with his class. Dr. Richards is pleased to help his students if they have any questions, you could come to see him for help anytime and anywhere. Once you came to meet him, he would have chat with you and it will help you improving speaking skills. When you studied abroad, you would find out that the students here differ from Taiwan, no one was playing their cellphone in class, and each student was concentrated on the course, then the reading atmosphere will force you to study harder. Most important of all, there were lots of resources you could use in Brandon University when you stuck into any problems, you could ask others instead of working by yourself.(301字)

(三)生活環境

The weather in Brandon is extremely cold; therefore, if the outside was minus twenty Celsius, you would prefer to stay at your accommodation rather than going outside. For those who live in the school dormitory, you must choose a school meal plan, so I seldom go out to eat. Although the weather was chilly, I enjoyed life when I was in Canada; I spent most of my time on my own since I did not have roommates, which pushed me to become independent. Fortunately, Brandon is a safe place; you can go anywhere you like. In order to make my life more interesting in Canada, I tried to attend different kinds of activities. For instance, I would go to the cinema on weekends, the movie in Canada was different from in Taiwan because they did not have subtitles, then it is a good way to improve your English. And I also went to the musical in Brandon, though I could not completely understand what it wanted to express about; it was a unique experience for me. Furthermore, I grow fond of sports when I was in Canada because if you are a student at Brandon University, you can watch volleyball, basketball, and football game for free. There are many people in Brandon willing to spend their leisure time watching the competition to support their favorite team. Once you watch the game, you would love the atmosphere here. Furthermore, School will hold various activities for international students; you could participate without charge. (251字)

(四)自我成長

When you are in a foreign country, all the things you need to take responsibility for yourself. The most important thing I learned during this year was to express my opinion properly. In my previous school life, I always cooperate with others because I do not know how to express my real idea. In Canada, I tried to live for myself; I have done lots of things that I never tried in Taiwan. Everything you need to fight for yourself when you were not in your own country since no one will help you. I remember that I faced a huge problem when I arrived in Canada. Due to my flight has been delayed, I could not catch up on my transfer flight, so all my schedule put off. What worse, my airline changed my flight to midnight without telling me; I spent an additional eight hours at Vancouver airport. I contacted the school right away once I knew it; it could help me change my shuttle because when I arrived at Winnipeg airport was already midnight. However, I appreciate unfavorable start; it made me stay calm when I encountered any difficulties in Canada. Also, I found out that Canada has great customer service; you could return your purchase and get the refund easier. If your right has been undermined, you could call their Service Agent; they will assist you. Thus, I made lots of phone calls in Canada, which I have never do it in Taiwan; it is such a special experience for me. (255字)

(五)大三出國建議

To those who want to study aboard, I would suggest that always remember to play hard and study hard. You could still learn something out of school; I believed that experience was more useful for your future life. As for me, I originally resisted studying aboard because I was unwilling to step out of my comfort zone. But I appreciated my parents encourage me to do so. To challenge myself, I decided to travel alone on vacation then I went to the travel agent for finding the best packages suitable for me. Accordingly, I take advantage of both winter vacation and study break for traveling; I went to the United States and Yellowknife respectively. Both trips I went with the groups, although sometimes it may feel lonely due to language differences. However, I recommend travel to the USA; I went with groups and most of them were Austrian. This my first time joined the group without any Asian. This was not what I expected, but during this trip; your English ability will improve smoothly. The trip to the USA helps me broaden my horizons and meet new people; it was an unforgettable memory for me. We have a study break for one week in each term at Brandon University, so you can utilize this week for traveling. Therefore, I planned to Yellowknife to see aurora for three nights; I booked a package on the internet, which included special activities, such as ice fishing, snowmobile, and dog sledding. They were all new experiences to me; furthermore, I have seen the aurora three days in a row. Thus, I think my life in my junior aboard was enjoyable, making a good ending for my senior year of University.(286字)
