2019大三出國輔導通報系統 - 留學心得報告[編輯]

(一)基本資料

In my study abroad year, I went to International College of Hotel Management in Adelaide, Australia. The program I chose was combining study and internship, so I did one semester study and one semester internship. I chose four subjects which is Food and Beverage Service Standards, Delivering Guests Service Practicum, Future Hotelier and Room Division Service Standards. After I finished my studies, I started my internship in the Langham Hotel Melbourne. 在出國留學的那一年，我去了澳大利亞阿德萊德的國際酒店管理學院。我選擇的課程是學習和實習相結合，所以我做了一個學期的學習和一個學期的實習。我選擇了四個主題，分別是餐飲服務標準，提供賓客服務實踐，未來酒店經營者和客房分部服務標準。完成學業後，我開始在墨爾本朗廷酒店實習。(71字)

(二)課程學習

The subject that I enjoyed the most is actually combined by two courses which are food and beverage service standards and delivering guests service practicum and both of them were taught by Professor Moon. Although, there were two courses, they were all about the same theme, food and beverage. In food and beverage service standards, we learnt the basic knowledge of food and beverage in Australia and regulations. Through the courses, Professor Moon provided lots of opportunities for us to practice. For example, in coffee lessons, we really divided into groups and practiced all the procedures by ourselves. In the end, professor invited some tutors to come and bought the coffee they wanted in order to ensure that we really had learnt. In the course, we learnt all the knowledge and skills not only by listening to the classes but also practiced them personally and also having some roleplays for us to get used to all the service sequences. Besides, in delivering guests service practicum which was a course we could really utilized the skills that we learnt from food and beverage service standards by being the service attendant in school restaurant (Graduate or Tiros Restaurant) and Adelaide Conference Center. The course had not only provided a chance for us to practice but also gave us some preview about the industry that we were going to work in. Both of the courses were interesting, needed and useful for the future placement. It would be a good opportunity to know what the industry was looked like and understand your disadvantages so that we might have more time to correct them. To sum up, we got actual experience in working both a la carte and ballroom. Having these experiences, we could be easier to get us to the environment in our internship. 我最喜歡的科目實際上是結合了食品和飲料服務標準和提供賓客服務實踐的兩門課程，而這兩門課程都是由Moon教授教授的。儘管有兩門課程，但它們都是關於同一主題的，食品和飲料。在食品和飲料服務標準中，我們了解了澳大利亞食品和飲料的基本知識以及法規。通過這些課程，穆恩教授為我們提供了很多練習的機會。例如，在咖啡課中，我們真的分成小組，自己練習了所有程序。最後，教授邀請了一些導師來買他們想要的咖啡，以確保我們真正學會了。在課程中，我們不僅通過聽課學習了所有的知識和技能，而且還親自進行了練習，並通過角色扮演使我們習慣了所有服務順序。此外，通過提供賓客服務實習課程，我們可以真正地利用我們從餐飲服務標準中學到的技能，成為學校餐廳（研究生或蒂羅斯餐廳）和阿德萊德會議中心的服務員。該課程不僅為我們提供了練習的機會，而且還為我們提供了有關我們將從事的行業的預覽。這兩個課程對於將來的學習都很有趣，必要且有用。這是一個很好的機會，可以了解該行業的面貌並了解您的劣勢，以便我們有更多的時間來糾正它們。總而言之，我們在點菜和宴會廳方面都有實際經驗。有了這些經驗，我們可以更輕鬆地將我們帶入實習環境。(301字)

(三)生活環境

During my half year learning in Adelaide, I leaved in dormitory with other three Taiwanese students. I recommend the students who study in ICHM to live in the dormitory. Because it only takes around five-minute walk to the campus. Besides, I had my own bedroom and we shared one living room and two bathrooms together. Inside the dormitory, we got one reception, a recreation area with table tennis table and pool table and a big cafeteria where we usually ate our meals and discussed our assignment. The reception will receive the letters and parcels for the students and put it into our own mailbox. We also can borrow some board games, basketball and volleyball to play with friends in our free time. The residents are not allowed to cook inside the dormitory. In this case, they provide meals every day. Additionally, the kitchen will adjust the mealtime according to the course. For example, when some classes need to do placement in school restaurant, the kitchen will open early for those students so that they got enough energy to work. The location of the dormitory is quite convenient. It has some stores nearby such as pharmacy, clinic, bakery, Asian market and Vietnamese Pho restaurant. Besides, the bus stations are just in the corner. Students can go to the city and supermarket easily by taking bus. Some students may go to the gym nearby together. The weather in Adelaide is dry and a bit extreme, so it is really important for the students to prepare some moisture and drink lots of water. (四)自我成長

Australia is a country which is totally different from Taiwan. Due to whole English learning environment, I did not really struggle too much in language. However, for studying all the lecturers prefer to have discussions during the class by dividing into groups and want everyone to spread their thought in front of all the students. They would like all the students discuss for different topics and share with each other so that every student can get some idea for each topic. In this case, while discussing issues, students can brainstorm some new ideas and exchange with others. Through the process, they can learn how to communicate with students with different backgrounds. In addition, I think the most difficult thing for me to get used to is to add reference in each assignment. In ICHM, students need to pay highly attention on reference and name down all the details in the end of the assignment such as author, title or URL. No matter what kind of assignment is, the lecture will give a minimize number of references are required inside the assignment. For living, something shocks me is that most of the stores close at 5 p.m. or 7 p.m. The schools and businesses closed much earlier than in Taiwan includes department stores and even restaurants. Therefore, we did not really get enough time for recreation after school. After closing time of the stores, you can rarely find people walking on the street, so it could be dangerous when someone by go home by themselves. 澳大利亞是一個與台灣完全不同的國家。由於整個英語學習環境的影響，我在語言方面並沒有真正掙扎。但是，為了研究所有講師，他們希望在課堂上分組討論並希望每個人都在所有學生面前傳播思想。他們希望所有學生討論不同的主題並互相分享，以便每個學生都能對每個主題有所了解。在這種情況下，學生在討論問題時可以集思廣益，與他人交流。通過該過程，他們可以學習如何與不同背景的學生進行交流。另外，我認為最難適應的是在每個作業中添加引用。在ICHM中，學生需要高度重視參考，並在作業末尾寫下所有詳細信息，例如作者，標題或URL。無論是哪種作業，講座都會在作業中提供最少數量的參考資料。為了生存，令我震驚的是大多數商店都在下午5點關門。或晚上7點學校和企業關閉的時間比台灣包括百貨商店甚至飯店在內的要早得多。因此，放學後我們真的沒有足夠的時間進行娛樂。在商店關閉後，您幾乎找不到走在街上的人，因此有人獨自回家時可能很危險。(256字)

(五)大三出國建議

For the students who would like to go study in ICHM, first of all, I would suggest them to have the attitude of speaking English. There is a rule in ICHM is that the only language you can speak in class is English. With this rule and all of the classmates are from different countries, English is the only way for you to communicate with each other. Therefore, you need to be prepared of speaking English. Next, because of high medical expenses, I will recommend you bring some medicines that you used to take in Taiwan. It is easier for you to deal with some small cold or allergy instead of going to the doctor. Although, you get insurance, the only fee you can get back is the consultation fee not the expenses for medicines. Besides, prepare extra essential medicines you must take in advance, it is better that you get extra medicine if there is any emergency. Third, ICHM provides lots of chances for the students to practice skills. Please do not hesitate to practice. For example, when having practices in Tiros and Graduate Restaurant, sometimes, they might need extra people to serve. In this case, you can get more opportunities to practice and this is useful to your future internship. Last but not least, do not forget to travel around Australia and try to integrate to the local students. Hanging out with local students, you will understand what is real “Aussie-Style.” Australia is a beautiful country having lots of scenery and history. There will be some free time after midterm. Do not forget to travel around Australia. 首先，對於想去ICHM學習的學生，我建議他們保持講英語的態度。 ICHM中有一個規則，就是您在課堂上只能說的語言是英語。有了這個規則，所有同學都來自不同的國家，英語是您彼此交流的唯一途徑。因此，您需要準備說英語。其次，由於醫療費用高昂，我建議您帶一些您以前在台灣服用的藥物。您比去看醫生更容易應對一些小感冒或過敏。儘管您獲得了保險，但您唯一可以退回的費用是諮詢費，而不是藥品費用。此外，要事先準備一些必不可少的基本藥物，如果有任何緊急情況，最好再獲得一些額外的藥物。第三，ICHM為學生提供了很多練習技能的機會。請不要猶豫練習。例如，有時在Tiros和Graduate Restaurant實習時，他們可能需要額外的人來服務。在這種情況下，您可以獲得更多的練習機會，這對您將來的實習很有用。最後但並非最不重要的一點是，不要忘記環遊澳大利亞並嘗試融入當地學生。與本地學生一起閒逛，您將了解什麼是真正的“澳大利亞風格”。澳大利亞是一個擁有許多風景和歷史的美麗國家。期中後會有一些空閒時間。不要忘記環遊澳大利亞。(275字)
