2019大三出國輔導通報系統 - 留學心得報告[編輯]

(一)基本資料

In my junior study abroad program, I chose International College of Hotel Management. It is located in Adelaide, Australia. In this college, students can learn related courses on campus for six months and internship in industry placement for six months. During this period, I chose four courses, which are Food and Beverage Service Standards (BBHM102), Delivering Guest Services (BBHM103), Rooms Division (BBHM104) and Employability Skills for Future Hoteliers (BBHM109). From these courses, I learned lots of useful skills to prepare for industry placement.(83字)

(二)課程學習

In the first semester, I chose four courses, which are Food and Beverage Service Standards (BBHM102), Delivering Guest Services (BBHM103), Rooms Division (BBHM104) and Employability Skills for Future Hoteliers (BBHM109). Most of them are practical courses, which taught us the fundamental skills and general knowledge of the hospitality industry, except Employability Skills for Future Hoteliers (BBHM109). Among those courses, my favourite course in ICHM is Food and Beverage Service Standards (BBHM102). First, in this course, students were divided into three-part, so there were approximate ten students in one class. I really like this method because everyone can learn more about the skills and knowledge. Moreover, every student had a chance to practice their skills. The lecturer also taught us one by one. When we were practising, he would watch us by our side and tell which part was wrong and teach us the correct way. Second, the other reason why I like this course the most is that I am interested in food and beverage. I want to learn more knowledge and skills in food and beverage. Those knowledge and skills are very useful for my future internship and job. Due to this course, I can get used to the new working environment faster and easier. For instance, I learned the sequence of service, the knowledge of wine, how to make a coffee or tap beer. Before I took this course, I didn’t learn them before. The culture of Australia is quite different from Taiwan. I could learn that knowledge and skills before I worked in the industry placement. The third reason why I like this course is that it is not only a theory course. We needed to go to the Adelaide Convention Centre and restaurant in ICHM to work. This is different from practice. We were real employees when working. We had to interact with customers, cooperate with colleagues, and communicate with the whole staff. In brief, this course is my favourite is because I earn lots of experience in it.(334字)

(三)生活環境

In the first six months, I lived on campus. The dormitory in ICHM is called RIH. The environment is very quiet and comfortable here. It is not located in the city but in the suburban district. I prefer to live in suburbs. It makes me feel cosy and relaxed. The part I like the most is that it provides three meals per day. I don’t have to worry about what I should eat or where I can cook. Sometimes, the chef will ask us what we want to eat, and he will cook for us. There are four people live in one unit, but everyone has their own room. In one unit, there are one living room, one kitchen, two bathrooms and four bedrooms. It is a good place to let us take a rest in my free time. Moreover, the dormitory is just beside the school, so it only takes me five minutes to go to school. It is really convenient. Besides, when we want to go to the city, we just need to take a bus, which station is in front of ICHM. It takes 20 minutes to go to the city. If you take a walk for ten minutes, you can arrive at a mall, which is called Arndale. You can buy some supplies there. When we just arrived in Australia, it was winter. In winter, it was cold but dry. I think it is colder than in Taiwan. In summer, the weather is hot and dry. It is very dry and uncomfortable. Sometimes my eyes and nose feel uncomfortable because it is too dry. In short. I have a good adaption in Australia.(277字)

(四)自我成長

In the beginning, I thought this journey would be hard and lonely because the friends who I am familiar with did not come to ICHM with me. I thought it would be difficult to make new friends. However, after understanding more with each other, I found that I was wrong. Moreover, not only the students in our school came to ICHM, there were other Taiwanese students coming. We become friends easily and fast because we live together. Thinking back now, if I come to ICHM with my friends, I will not make new friends and step out to my comfort zone. For now, I feel so happy that I can have this chance to make me understand more myself and improve myself. In terms of assessment, it is quite different from the assessment in Taiwan. For my first assessment in ICHM, I felt so confused about what I should write. I did not understand what the lecturer wants. I felt so frustrated at that time and spent plenty of time to figure out the way to write the assessment. Although it was difficult in the beginning, I learned how to write after asking classmates and lecturer. They all helped me a lot. In Australia, the most different thing is language. The language is different from Taiwan. In the beginning, I was afraid to speak English because I could not be sure if it is right. However, I found that I did not have to care about if it is right or not. If I do not speak English, it cannot be practised. We have to speak it out bravely and it will be improved.(274字)

(五)大三出國建議

For those who are interested in the hospitality industry, ICHM must be the best choice for you. In ICHM, you can learn different course from Tamkang. In Tamkang, we can learn the basic knowledge about the tourism industry. For instance, we will learn the knowledge about the travel industry, aviation industry, and hospitality industry. ICHM just focuses on the hospitality industry. Before you go to work, ICHM will provide you with enough knowledge and skills for industry placement in the future. In the first semester, ICHM will teach you hospitality knowledge, such as the basic food and beverage knowledge and housekeeping knowledge. In terms of food and beverage, we will practice how to make coffee, serve wine, tap beer, and service sequence. Those are the thing we cannot learn in Tamkang. In terms of housekeeping, the lecturer will teach us how to make a bed and clean the room. The practical course is my favourite part. Besides, in the second semester, you have to go to industry placement to the internship. ICHM has a team, which is called the ICD team to help students to find the industry placement. From resume to interview, the team will assist us and check everything is alright. In terms of resume, the team will teach us how to write and modify for us. In terms of the interview, we will practice many times before the formal interview. ICHM has a good relationship with plenty of hotels. You can have many choices to choose where you want to go for an internship. In ICHM, you do not have to worry about that you can not find the industry placement. In brief, I never regret that I chose ICHM in my junior study abroad program.(289字)
