Fine art making skills is one of my favorite course, it’s taught by teacher Maria and various teachers. Surely I will recommend juniors that is interested in art to take this course. First of all, this course is sorted into five subjects, and each of them takes around two or three weeks to complete, and every subject have an individual teacher to help us. Which I think is suitable for beginners that you can try various subjects in art in a single course. I tried clay making, computer illustration and printing class, which I never had chance to experience in the past. Printing is harder than I thought, there are more than ten different ways to print a picture, and you need to know how to function various printing machine, if you didn’t operate it right you even might damage the machine, despite of all of this, I still think it’s quite interesting and fun. the picture I upload is from the first class in art making skills, teacher Maria assigned us to complete a 1-to-1 portrait of ourselves, and wanted us to create an abstract image of our feelings, emotions and self-identification. In the portrait, I used red and blue in my hair to display my nationality, and I choose the color bright yellow and orange to express expectations of myself, to be a warm and influential person. In the course, the teachers are all very friendly, they will make sure that international students are following the progress, and provide help whenever we needed. Teacher Maria often will form us into groups and want students to cooperate on our works, she wanted us have teamwork and can make friends in class. In the group, many classmates will likely to express their opinions and thoughts, it’s also a good chance to brave and speak up, so I really encourage students that want to make friends and try new things to be in this course.(328字)

(三)生活環境

The university of Sunderland is divided into two campuses, city campus and St. Peter campus, both of the campuses are not big, but the facilities are complete, I especially enjoy the cafeteria, it serves light and tasty food. In specific time there are free buses to transport between two campuses and the city center, it usually takes around 30 minutes for a round and 15 minutes to travel between them. The city center is a fine place for student to pick up groceries and go shopping, my friends and I usually go to the bridges, the largest shopping center around the university, there are some restaurants and fast food. I chose to live outside the dormitory, so I am not certain about the university dormitory, therefore I will suggest juniors to live outside. My friends that lived in the dormitory had a lot of inconvenient experience, first the dormitory isn’t near to both of the campuses and supermarkets, second the contract claims the tenant to live in the dormitory for the whole year, which meant that you lost the opportunity to change places if you don’t like it. I think it’s a good choice to live in the middle of both campuses which is in the city center. Personally I like the weather in Sunderland, most of the time the weather here is cool but not freezing, however it is still a bit disappointing not being able to see snow this winter. When it rains here, it’s usually not too heavy, a hoodie or a cap can block the rain from pouring in. I will suggest juniors to bring some sweaters, hoodies and scarfs.(276字)

It has been the first time I ever stayed abroad for so long, it has been quite an interesting and challenging mission for me. I was lucky that I made some friends that helped me when I had difficulties. The first challenge I met is being shy to fit in the class, I studied in the art department and most of them are friends before I dropped in, in some classes we only focus on our own painting, I have seldom chances to make friends. In the end of the semester I still didn’t make many friends in to the class, but at least I had the courage to speak to my classmates, and whenever I had problems, I won’t hesitate to raise my hands to ask questions. I think the only way to feel relaxed in the class is to have courage to speak up and overcome your fears. The second challenge I faced is being independent, normally in home, I rarely make my own meal, my mom as a housewife did everything nicely for me, living abroad means I need to take care of myself. When I actually start cooking, I was astonished that cooking isn’t as hard as I thought, and I enjoyed creating all kinds of special dishes. In the past I will be afraid to do lots of things alone, to survive abroad, I improved a lot. The third challenge might be to ignore some annoying brats, different from Taiwan, groups of kids wanders around in dusk, and since they are annoying brats there pick on foreigners, I don’t think they are really racist but they just seemed to like annoying people that have reaction so they attract attention.(288字)

(五)大三出國建議

For the juniors who prepare to study aboard in Sunderland, I would like to give some advices. First, if you come to Sunderland be prepared that there aren’t many good foods here, second, be aware of choosing your home if you lived outside, I experienced no hot water for weeks, the only washing plus drying machine broke down, and water leaking from my bathroom celling. It’s very important to look carefully at the contract especially prepay contract. Third, many stores close around 5 or 6 pm. so it’s necessary to pick up your groceries before dusk. Fourth, for some juniors that is curious about whether you need an international driving license or not, I will suggest that you don’t need to have one. Sunderland isn’t a big city, most of the time, student there walk or take the metro, if you planned on going out during vacations, trains and intercity buses are good options. Fifth, there are some items that can’t be easily purchase in UK, stationery such as 0.38 ballpoint pen, correction tape and cosmetics such as achene absorbing pads, and contact lenses. Sixth, I will advise juniors to bring standing medicine that you are used to and masks, although it’s not common to wear masks in UK, during special periods masks is still very important. Seventh, if you want to see the doctor, you need to make an appointment online, and note that clinics aren’t open during weekends. Overall, I think once you are prepared well, there is nothing that you need to worry when you come to Sunderland, most of the people there are friendly.(273字)
