(二)課程學習

I studied in the language courses in the first semester, so I started to take the formal courses in the next semester. I took marketing, business communication, and fundamental of politics. I learned different things from different courses. However, I like the course of fundamental of politics the most because it has a great challenge for me. We have to submit two essays and other assignments in one semester, and the professor assigns us to use Chicago style. Firstly, I have to learn how to use this style to write an essay included the format. Moreover, we should read many journals and books about our essay topics, and after reading, we have to summarize the points of these researches. To be honest, reading a whole journal or book in English is difficult for me, but I have to conquer it. I usually used to translate, so I could read faster, but I still have to look up the keywords in the books or journals because I have to mention the keywords in the essay. Facing so many difficulties, I went to the writing centre at the university to ask for help. This centre is for international students, so the teachers there are very nice and kind. In the beginning, I had an idea about my essay, so they offered some aspects of the topic so that I can do the researches. They not only revised the grammar, but they discussed the questions of the topic with me, so I can write more accurately. I went to the centre about three times for one essay because once I went, I could get more ideas on the essay. They taught me that every paragraph has only one topic sentence, and different things should be written in different paragraphs. I think it is so basic, but it is difficult when I write. In the end, I got A! The centre helps me a lot, and it is so surprising!(326字)

(三)生活環境

The weather in Brandon is very cold, and until November, every day is a snowy day to April. It makes people inconvenient because if we stay outside about for ten minutes, we will feel freezing. Therefore, there is no one walking on the streets excluded the poor students like us because we do not have cars. Brandon is a small town, and there are four supermarkets and only one small shopping mall. People can buy what they need and want, but we sometimes still want to go to the bigger shopping mall to shop. However, Brandon is a safe town, and people know each other. Everyone is kind and happy to help people, so I think it is a cute city. I stayed at the dorm in the university, and I almost eat meals in the cafeteria in the university every day. I have one roommate, and she is Korean. In the beginning, I am afraid of talking to her in English, but I gradually can chat with her. Sadly, there is no Korean restaurant in Brandon because I miss Korean food so much. By the way, there are about five Chinese restaurants, so when we miss Chinese cuisine, we would book them. However, the food in Taiwan is the best, whatever price or tasting. Fried rice is about 150 NTD in Brandon, so we usually book it only once a week. To sum up, Brandon is a slow and quiet town, and I like the people there.(247字)

(四)自我成長

When I arrived at Brandon the first day, I met a professor. In the beginning, she said, “How are you?” I was shocked because I think I do not know who are you. Moreover, I was afraid of speaking in English at that time, so I did not talk too much. I only knew she is also new in Brandon, and she would teach at Brandon University. When I stayed there for a while, I discovered that they are used to saying “How are you? How’s going today?” Originally, I usually said fine and gave a shy smile, but afterwards, I learned what would they respond. Therefore, I am not afraid of this question anymore. One day, I met the professor again, and she invited me to drink tea in her room. We talk a lot such as the issue of female right, the ideas of love, and our hometown. I told her I was so nervous to talk to her when I met her for the first time because my ability to speaking English is poor. She answered me “ now you are progressing. People who laughed you, just fu*k up.” I like her very well because she is interesting and knowledgeable. Moreover, I had some problems with my credit card, and Chinese service can not help me. Therefore, I went to the bank by myself, and I was so afraid that they can not understand what I want to say. However, I conquer it by myself. I think staying in abroad is difficult, but we should learn how to solve the problems by ourselves and be independent. (270字)

(五)大三出國建議

I will recommend you who want to study hard and get progressing experience to choose Brandon University because here is very quiet, and the students here are focusing on studying and sports. If you tend to big cities like New York, I think you are not suitable here because you would feel boring. Moreover, the weather in Brandon is so cold, so if you are not healthy or afraid of coldness, you should go to other cities. The transportation here is also inconvenient except you have a car; otherwise, you are going to wait for buses on a snowy day. Believe me, it is so bad, so just call a taxi. However, people will do some interesting activities in winters such as ice skating, skiing, and ice fishing. These all are my first time in Canada because I can not experience them in Taiwan. If you have money, I will recommend you to watch the games of ice hockey. It is really exciting. To sum up, learning abroad is not just about studying. I hope that you can choose the courses that you can undertake, and you can go travelling around the world to experience multiple cultures in another time. The most important is what you learned and experienced. I believe that you may be nervous, but you have to think about what you want to learn this year clearly, so you can prepare. Whatever you want to go, just be careful. Safety is the most important all the time. (250字)
