2019大三出國輔導通報系統 - 留學心得報告[編輯]

(一)基本資料

School: Winona State University, City: Minnesota, Date: Jun.25.2019~ May.09.2020, Fall semester Course- Beginning Japanese I: In this class, we’re mainly learning basic Japanese. Media & Society: This class is teaching us the history and the development of the media in America. Introduction to Music: This class is learning about how music develops in a different century and several types of music styles. Introduction to Higher Education: This class is helping the international students how to quickly adapt to the campus and using the sources in the school. Spring semester: Begging Japanese II: This class is teaching us the Japanese grammar and basic communication skills. Introduction to Japanese Culture: This class is learning about the history of Japan including religion, Bushido, Buddhism, and their special culture. World Regional Geography: In this course, we’re learning several country’s cities and their terrain. Marketing and Society: This class is teaching us the theory of the market and help us understand how do those successful companies use those theories to sell the product and so on. (173字)

There are several courses that are interesting in Winona, but if I have to choose one, then it has to be "Beginning Japanese." Due to the experience of the Global Service Internship Program(GSIP) in my freshmen year. That was my first-time exposure to Japanese culture and built a relationship with those Japanese people. However, because of the obstacle of the language, I can’t even understand or express my thought without the translate app. This makes me really sad, cause I really want to know more about my friends in Japan and share our culture with them. Therefore, I choose beginning Japanese this course and wish one day I can chat with them without any translator or app. Our teacher is Japanese, who is a super nice person and can always accept students to make mistakes, which is the second reason I love this class. I can always remember in the first class she said:” Don’t be afraid to make mistakes and mess up the test, because you will learn from those mistakes.” During the class, she never made us or blame us just because we’re giving the wrong answer. I still remember one of our classmates gets a super bad grad in a chapter test, however, she still not mad at him. In addition, she asks him to find her and help him review that knowledge also pays more attention to him in the class. Furthermore, she never shows any impatience when the students trying to ask her question after the class. Thus, sometimes I feel she is not only a teacher but also like a friend. The third reason I like this course is the way of her teaching in the class. For example, she uses music and the game to help students memorize difficult grammar and vocabulary. Which makes the class more interesting and makes me feel she is trying hard and spends a lot of time helping us learning and memorizing. I really like her teaching way and the way she interacts with students.(341字)

(三)生活環境

Winona is a small campus and before I go there I already heard Winona is not only small but also a boring town. I have to say it is boring sometimes, cause this town is quite small and doesn’t have too many entertainments at night. However, I still love this place very much, because I can spend more time building a connection with people and during the summer can row the boat with friends on the Winona Lake or walk along the Mississippi River to watch the sunset. Otherwise, in winter we can also skate on the frozen Winona lake. Winona’s summer is really comfortable for me, not too hot but in the morning and the night can still feel a little bit cold. During the summer, when we walking on the street can see many cute animals like rabbit, squirrel and sometimes can even see the deer on the mountain area. What’s more, the most interesting in the summer for me is the sunset is at nine p.m. Furthermore, in Winter the most exciting thing is snowing, and the temperature will drop to about 20 degrees Celsius. Even though the weather is super cold and the activities will be mostly staying home, I still love the winter of Winona. In addition, we choose to rent the house with friends, but some of the students are still choosing to live in the school dormitory. To rent a house meaning we have to cook by ourselves and have to go to the supermarket prepare the food for the next 2 weeks. Therefore, if you love country style, nature, and snow then Winona is a good choice. (277字)

(四)自我成長

In these nine months in the United States I do learn a lot of new things and do feel become a batter person also finds my own goal of the future. The first I learn in Winona’s class is do not be hesitate to ask the question if you don’t understand. Because no one will laugh at you or think you are stupid when you asking the question or make the grammar mistake. Therefore, do not pretend you understand when you confuse, cause that is the worst thing. The second thing is to be a listener. You don’t learn anything when you are not listening to others. It is the most important thing, but also the hardest for most people. Therefore, we do not only have to ask questions but also have to be a good listener. The third thing is taking note, cause the course is more difficult and the professor speaks really fast sometimes. In order to review before the test and quickly understand the knowledge from the professor and make sure I don’t miss any information about the homework or the test, taking notes to become really important in class. What’s more, the fourth thing that I learn is to check the meal box. Because school or the clubs will send the notice of the activity through email, also, we don’t use Facebook or line these kinds of app, basically, the only way to connect the professor is by using email. Furthermore, the professor will be using email to notify students if there’s no class that week, also like the bad weather, emergence situation, and so on, which are all notice us through the email. Therefore, it is really to check the mailbox at least 2 times I one day.(299字)

(五)大三出國建議

The advice I gave to those students, who are preparing for studying abroad, is don’t be afraid of making mistakes when you talking with others. Because the most important thing is the sentence able to understand. Therefore, don’t be afraid to chat with others, go make friends, and build your own connection with this country, city, and people, cause one year goes really fast. Therefore, I encourage you guys to join the clubs, activities and make friends as much as you can, so that when you are ready to back to Taiwan you will find that those are all good memories in this place. The other thing is the part-time job on the campus. I also encourage you to find a part-time job at the campus, cause I do make a lot of friends and enhance my English ability through the part-time job. Furthermore, I have to communicate with my partner, which helps me not afraid of making the mistake when we chatting with those native speakers. During these processes, I know how to adapt to a different culture, I know when I do not understand I have to ask others. What's more, I become more comfortable when I talking with others.(204字)
