The course I like the most is Global Tourism. And the professor of this course is Ian Morton. Although I am a student of English Language and Culture, this course is not my major, I still like it. The reason is that I like the way the teacher teaches and I like the atmosphere of the course. I noticed that most of the students who had this course are paying great attention on the class and are always willing to answer the questions the professor asks. No matter the answer they answered is right or wrong, they are still active to participate in the class, which I believe is really different from the situation in the university in Taiwan. I know that most of the students in Taiwan do not answer the questions initiatively. Maybe some of them do not know the answer, but I believe most of them are willing to answer, it’s just that they are shy to answer or to publish their ideas during the class because I am one of them and I am afraid that I might get the wrong answer. Therefore, when I had this course, I found it surprising that everyone is having a great interaction with the professor. And here is a special experience for me, one day when I was having the course like usual, my friend was asked to answer a question that she doesn’t know. I then gave her a little hint, however the professor noticed and turned out to ask me to answer it. To tell the truth, I was not sure if my answer is right or wrong at that time plus I seldom publish my idea in front so many foreigners, whose major are all tourism. However, when I was saying my answer, I noticed that my classmates are paying attention to me and even though I only say the words that are easy to understand, the professor and the classmates are patient and still gave me a good reaction and feedback, this encourages me a lot. And the professor will have an activity every course, which will divide everyone into groups and finished them together. This is a challenge, but also a good chance for me that I will always force myself to find foreigners to be my group members to train my courage and practice my oral. As for the content of this course is to talk about the tourism of countries in the world with three main aspects, which are economic, environmental, social. People who are interested in tourism or if your major is tourism, you can consider to have this course.(441字)

(三)生活環境

Most of the time, the weather in Sunderland is quite cold and dry, comparing to the weather in Taiwan. Although it is extremely cold, it doesn't really snow in winter, however you might see some frost. The University of Sunderland is divided into two campuses. One is City Campus, which is located at city centre, the other is Sir Tom Cowie Campus, which is located at St. Peter's. Sir Tom Cowie Campus has many different buildings and cafeterias, it is much bigger than City Campus. Among those buildings in Sir Tom Cowie Campus, there is one building that is really special, which is called "Glass Centre." The course that is taken in the Glass Centre is also special and interesting that is to teach you how to make glass. There are several kinds of categories of courses to choose, eighty percent of the courses are taken in Sir Tom Cowie Campus. As for City Campus, it is mainly for art students and for the freshmen to register or to sign up for the school clubs. The city centre is located in the middle of the two campuses, and it takes about fifteen minutes to walk from one campus to the city centre. There are several transportation, you can walk, take the metro, take taxi, and take the school bus. If you decided to take the metro, the price is quite expensive if you just take one stop. And if you take metro to go to the Sir Tom Cowie campus, you still need to walk for five to ten minutes to Sir Tom Cowie Campus. And if you choose to take taxi, the taxi in Sunderland is called "Station." It is more expensive than Uber, however it is hard to call Uber, since the quantity of Uber is small. As for the school bus, it is free as long as you are a student of The University of Sunderland. Even if you do not have a class or even on Saturday and Sunday, you can still take it for free. Therefore I think taking the school bus is the best choice. Since Sunderland is not a big city, there is only one department store, which is called "Bridges" in city centre. If you want to buy some groceries, there is a shop called "Tesco" in the Bridges, or if you want to buy some basic commodities, Bridges and the shops around the city centre are enough for you. However, if you wish to buy something more, for example, if you want to find something with more categories or some furniture, you can go to a place that is on the other side of the city centre, there is a big Tesco and other stores that are also very big, and sell various kinds of things. There is a shop that is worth mentioning that is Chinese supermarket. It is also located at city centre, if you are really eager to eat some Taiwanese food or Asian food, such as cookies or rice, or instant noodles, etc. you can go there, however the price of the food in the Chinese supermarket is higher than Tesco. And it is better to buy ingredients and then cook it by yourself. If you eat out every single meal, it will definitely cost you a lot of money. Moreover, the shops in Sunderland closes very early, therefore cook it by yourself is a better choice.(570字)

I think it is really a big challenge for me to adapt everything in Sunderland when I first get there. No matter it's their accent, the speed when they talk, the weather, or the accommodation, etc. You might think that when you were back in Lanyang Campus, you also lived in the dormitory. There's no big difference if you study abroad. However, I think you will find differences when everything no matter big or small, you need to deal it by your own, not to mention I moved from one accommodation to the other one with two of my roommates by ourselves. To tell the truth, it is not easy for me to adapt the things in Sunderland in the beginning, it took some time for me to adapt it, for example I couldn't sleep well for two months after I got there. As for the language, although I know how to speak English, English is not my native language after all. Moreover, most of the people in Sunderland have a really strong accent that sometimes it really takes me some time to understand what they are saying. And the same situation happens during the course, not to mention if you select the courses that are not your major and has a lot of professional phrases that you don't understand. You need to spend a lot of time to check the dictionary or find the information that are related to the course online after class or in your free time. However, these problems will be overcame after a few months. And the last thing that is racism, this is the one that I couldn't adapt the most. Maybe it's because I have never met this kind of situation personally. It really shocked me and my friends when we met teenagers that swore at us or when we met strangers that are drunk shouted at my friend. Moreover, my friend even met teenagers that split saliva toward them. And the best way to solve this is to walk away and ignore them because there’s nothing we can do.(348字)

I think after the studying abroad, there are really some things that I want to suggest you if you want to choose The University of Sunderland as the school for studying abroad. The first one that I want to talk about is about making friends, I know that most of the people might be shy to talk to foreigners, which is really different from the education of most of the countries. However, it is really a good chance for you to practice your oral speaking. The second one is also about practicing your oral speaking that is to answer the questions that the professor asked during the class. I know that this is also difficult for most of the people, however, this is another opportunity for you to practice your oral speaking and to train your guts and courage. And the third one is about vacation. I believe that most of you heard about "Work hard, Play hard." I think that under the circumstances that you finish all the reports from the university, it is really important to make good use of the spring vacation and winter vacation to make a plan to travel abroad. Since this is a very rare opportunity to study abroad, studying is important, playing and relaxing are also important. And then I want to talk about accommodation, I think you don't need to choose the accommodation too early because some of the landlord will lie to you, for example the picture is really different from the actual circumstances. Since signing up a contract is really important plus the accommodation where you stay really matters. Therefore I suggest that you had better ask the seniors before you choose. Moreover, you can choose the accommodation after you got there. You can stay in the temporary dormitory of the school first. And the best location of the accommodation that I personally think is around the city centre because it is really convenient to buy food and groceries, and it only takes you about fifteen minutes to walk to the campus. Last but not least, I want to talk about "safety." There are good people, but there are also bad people. Due to the experiences of my own and from mt friends, there are some strangers and some spoilt kids in Sunderland. They might be racist and throw things toward you or split saliva toward you or. And the best way for you to do is to keep away and ignore them and then leave as soon as possible. It is better to keep your eyes peeled and do not go out or stay outside late at night, especially when you are alone.(444字)
