(一)基本資料

Brandon University is located in the city of Brandon, Province of Manitoba, Middle of Canada. I took the EAP language course in the first semester. In the second semester, I took three courses. There were FUNDAMENTALS OF POLITICS, CANADA SINCE CONFEDERATION, and BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS.(44字)

As I said, I took three courses which were politics, history, and business. In my opinion, I thought these were good direct ways to know how a country works. I thought I go abroad to study not only for the school and course but also for the culture and environment. My favorite course is FUNDAMENTALS OF POLITICS which taught by Dr. Saunders. Before I took this course, I already interested in politics. For me, it was a wonderful chance to know global politics in a western way. Especially, how did they think about my home country Taiwan? For me, the hardest course is CANADA SINCE CONFEDERATION. It taught about the history of Canada. In Taiwan, we did not learn about the history of Canada. So in the beginning, it is very difficult to learn. Everything is new for me, there also taught about the Geography of Canada. Certainly, I did not know the Geography of Canada. However, I need to remember a lot of things to help me understand what is the book talking about. To be honest, this course is the most difficult, but it is also the course which I learned a lot. In this course, I learned why Canada become a Bilingual country. There are two official languages in Canada. They are English and French. Quebec province might be independent in the future. Because they were French Canadian, they all speak French. Quebec people have an independence referendum in 1995. The "No" option carried by 50.58% votes. It is so close to being independent. They show the French language and French culture are very important for Quebec. Before they were independent, the French language and French culture should be an important thing for Canada. In these two courses, I learned a lot about Canada. They make me understand Canada’s culture.(302字)

(三)生活環境

The weather in Brandon is very cold. When the winter comes, the temperature is always under zero degrees Celsius. There is usually snowing, but seldom raining because the weather is too cold. Although Brandon is cold, there is no wind there. The air in Brandon is very dry. It is a big difference compared to Taiwan. Because of the dry air, it is easy to get shocked by static electricity when touching the door, chair, and so on… which are made of metal. I really hate static electricity because I always get shocked by static electricity. I think to live in the school dormitory is the best idea. Because the school dormitory connects with the student cafeteria just like the Lanyang campus. The classroom and library are also very close to the dormitory. Brandon is not a prosperous city, but it has a good liver function. Brandon is the second biggest city in the province of Manitoba. The first biggest city and also the capital in Manitoba in Winnipeg. If you want to go to Winnipeg, you need to drive about 2.5 hours there from Brandon. Although it is a little far from Brandon, it is still a good place to visit. If you live in school, you should buy a meal plan. Then, you could eat everything in the cafeteria and pay by your student. The cafeteria has a lot of choices, and there are new special meals every day. But you will be bored with cafeteria food very soon. Because sometimes the special meal does not taste good and the other choices always the same, except for a special meal.(271字)

(四)自我成長

I studied the EAP course in the first semester, and then change into the regular class in the second semester. A regular class is difficult to compare to the EAP course. The assignments, essays and course all are difficult than what we learn in Taiwan. Before the class, you must read a lot of pages of the recommended books or you did not know what the professor said. Before I came to Canada, I think Canada is very similar to the US. They are totally different. In Canada, they wrote in British English, not American English. The speaking accent also a little different from American. Canada and the US are all big immigrant countries. For me, I think Canadians treat immigrants more kindly than Americans. To be honest, it is very difficult to make good friends with foreigners because cultural value is really different. The most difficult thing to adapt is food when I was living abroad. I really miss Taiwanese food. Delicious rice and noodle and night market foods. My English communication is not good, so sometimes I was very nervous when I need to deal with some important things alone. However, every time I deal with things alone, it means I can do it and I was improving. I am not good at doing an important note. In the regular class, it is really hard for me to study. But as I said, it is a good chance that I can do it alone and better. After that, I think I become more independent.(256字)

(五)大三出國建議

If you want to add the history course, you have to think twice. Because I think a history course is a hard course. You should write three essays in a semester and the last essay usually needs 2500~3000words in one essay. Therefore, if you are not interested in history please do not add history class, or you will regret it. If you like to drink tea, bring some tea bags to Canada because it is difficult to find tea in Brandon. If you want to create a bank account, the best choice is RBC (Royal Bank of Canada.) I think RBC is the best bank in Canada. Brandon University is a good place to study. I recommend going to Winnipeg on the weekend if you are feeling boring. You can rent a car with your friend and then drive there to take a small trip. If you have a long vacation, I suggest you go to another province to another view in Canada. Take us for example, we go to Quebec. It is so beautiful. The people in Quebec they all speak French. However, you can speak English to communicate with them. They also know what you say. Brandon university’s tuition fee is cheaper than America’s university, so if you want to save your money this is a good choice for you.(224字)
