(一)基本資料

I choose Malaysia for my exchange year. In October,2018, I started my exchange program in UTAR, which located in Kampar, Malaysia. The first semester I choose three courses related to Customer relationship, which are "Consumer Behavior", "customer relationship management" ,and "english for business". As for the second semester, I choose two subjects related to finance, and one is Journalism, the other one is Advertising client management. (66字)

Actually I got two favorite courses, which are Consumer Behavior and Financial Investment. The reason why I like the former one is that compared to other courses in the first semester, the way that teacher taught us was pretty impressed me. She taught us in a really patient way, and would give you some examples under the theory. Besides, she was paying a lot more attention to foreign students, for example, she will asked the opinions from me and one Japanese student since she wanted to know more about how we absorbed in the class. Sometimes, she would help us if we have some emergencies, for examples, she finished the class 15 minutes earlier since I told her that I crushed a makeup class. It’s really nice of her. Her name is Ms. Lam Siew Yong. That’s talk about the other one - Financial Investment. I don’t really have a basic about finance, and in the first place, teacher Liew Feng Mei asked me that “what’s your major in Taiwan?” and she knew that my major is not finance, so she told me I can have an appointment with her and she can help me if I have problems about what she taught in the classes. There is another one thing, she taught us really hard, and also she will give the students some suggestions of exhibitions or competitions because she knew we will use it while finding jobs. It’s also really nice of her, and I remember one time she told me that since she got some help from Taiwanese when she traveling in Taiwan, it let so many good memories with Taiwanese people. Beyond these two teachers, to be honest, I get along well with almost every teacher among other courses. For example, after Chinese New Year, one of the Malaysian Chinese teacher gave me red envelope for encouraging me, and when facing the serious disease, the cod-19, one teacher would give me a small talk once every week to share the information about the cod-19, and even give me some hand sanitizer since she knew I was going back to Taiwan. These memories are beyond the courses itself. (365字)

(三)生活環境

Regarding to the school environment – this school is pretty large and everywhere you can see are trees. There are two campus of UTAR itself, one is in Kuala Lumpur, and what I stayed is Kampar campus, compare to the one in the city, we are located in rural area. To be honest, I quite enjoy the atmosphere of the school, it made me feel relieved to immerse in green and birds chirping! There are lots of trees and grass, and it's hard to see the artificial constructions except the buildings, computers, and laboratories. For me who loves to stay with nature, the whole environment is quite comfortable. I usually go to school by bike. In Taiwan, I don’t know how to exercise before class, but it’s subtle to adjust the life of biking for more than 20 minutes to go to school. As for the food -tea shops are very common in Southeast Asia, and is no exception in Malaysia. It seems that every time you go out to eat, you will order tea and meals in the shop. My favorite are milk tea and "curry noodles" and salted egg chicken Meal!, I really have no resistance to curry noodles and salted egg chicken! Transportation-Since Kampar is a relatively rural place, we mostly use buses and trains to go to other places. And we go nearby places by bike,(sometimes even biking to downtown) if you want to go to downtown Kampar, you can also use grab (like taxi) and the price is much more cheaper compare to Taiwan. (四)自我成長

I would like to say how I adapt to the place, Malaysia. Courses, people, culture. When I first select courses, we have to find the head of the department in person to do the course selection. (Compared to the exchange students I see in Tamkang, they have to go to the teacher who hold the specific class to do the class addition or class withdrawal. It is more convenient to find the dean for additional selection). Here are something that I feel inconvenient with. Since we are exchange students, we cannot directly add additional courses on the Internet. When discussing the course selection with the dean of the department, we must list our order according to the how much I would like to join this course, and also some backup classes, because the exchange student cannot see the schedule, so the staff of Academic Affairs Office will make the schedule for you. (List the subject you’d like to join the most until to the one you less like) Though it’s quite inconvenient, but there is just different way that schools deal with international students. UTAR is actually established by a Malaysian Chinese, and the students here are 90% Malaysian Chinese. Here is a thing that people don’t talk, politics. Yet it is what I am learning during my college life. However, I still talked about politics with my Malaysian friends. I see a truth that the higher they expect to the education system, they complain more about their politics. In other words, it got something wrong in the education. And also I found there was a gap between Malaysian and Malaysian Chinese. These are related to politics. (will mentioned more in the last question) (286字)

(五)大三出國建議

Credit transfer: Make sure you can transfer the credit to your major in Taiwan. Some courses contains professional knowledge, so It is better to have a basic of the subject. EX: Finance and computer science, IT …etc. Student Visa: It takes about two days of working time to get the Malaysia visa, and the cost is around NT1920. You need to pay more attention to the business hours of the Malaysian visa application center. Because fewer people choose to go to Malaysia compared to western counties for their exchange studies, and the application center will also be based on the national holiday in Malaysia. (Malaysia has a lot of national holidays), so pay attention to the mailbox and don’t empty it! Money exchange: Right away arrived at the airport, you can get some (enough)of the money exchange. As for the left, you can exchange in the supermarket "Econsave" in Kampar. (there is a money exchange store in econsave) Dormitory: The dormitory got internet, beds (but no sheets and pillows), and no kitchen utensils. If you want to stay for one year, I highly suggest you to buy a convenient cooking pot. Internet and mobile You needs to buy the internet every month. I don’t see a one-year or half-year internet contract in Malaysia, and there are few packages that have unlimited internet, so it’s a limited internet. In Malaysia, Each telecommunications industry provides different network performance, and the network and the telecommunications are tied together. It is necessary to choose a network with better performance in the local area as the consideration of which telecommunications industry to buy. Once selected, the network telecommunications industry cannot be changed. Once changed, the original number cannot be used. Medicine incase and go to the right place for curing If it happened to a serious cold, try to find medical nursing station in the school first (or find a private clinic near the school), because it costs about 750 yuan to see a doctor in a local public hospital. Private or school will be your best choice. (346字)

(六)其他

Since Utar is a Chinese-based school, I can discuss with local Chinese students closely about Malaysian government. I started to check the history and politics of Malaysia on my own (it is a very sensitive topic in Malaysia), and I tried to go to the library to some books about the history of Malaysia. I even made a video for my homework, and the title is “the opinions from UTAR students about how politics affects education in Malaysia” . One of the Chinese students said: "Malaysian government has gradually been relatively friendly to Chinese compared to the past, and since Chinese families expect their children to be more competitive, they may send them to the private primary schools. And then all the way to receive English and Chinese education, but it is relatively weak in Malay." Another Malay Indian student said that in elementary school, she used English to learn mathematics and sciences, but then, in the secondary schools need to use Malay to learn mathematics and sciences. However, in the university, it swift to English learning these two subjects, she said: “This makes my learning process more difficult.” Yeah.. This is how politics effect education. However, remove these political factors out, Malay, Malaysian Chinese, and Malaysian Indian are very friendly and easy-going in life. I found the Malay donut is delicious. It’s only one flavor in a dough, and it is my top one dessert in Malaysia. Other local desserts are also embellished with coconut flavor, which is typical Southeast Asia flavor, and also I am in love with it. One day in my traveling to a nearby city, Ipoh, I tried the Indian hand-painted, called “Henna”. In addition to representing a marriage basis in the eyes of Indians, Henna actually has the meaning of praying for blessings. There was another day, a local teacher in Malaysia brought us to climb the mountain, and then Introducing the local aboriginal life to us, just like the mountainous countryside in Taiwan. The local people's spirit of "being in harmony with nature" permeates in my heart. Finally, it’s our turn to show our place, Taiwan. I bring the Taiwanese old toys and draw some traditional holidays in Taiwan, and some pictures shoeing our indigenous people. People here were curious about the old toys and our aborigine. It was fun to introduce our country and to share some differences or similar tradition culture in the same time. (405字)
