(一)基本資料

The school I exchanged is the Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University which is located in Beppu City, Kyushu, Japan. The APU itself is very similar to Langyang campus, most of the courses are taught in English, only half of the students are domestic people, and most importantly the campus is located in the mountain. Therefore, I adapted to the new environment in a short time. (64字)

(二)課程學習

At that semester I took 9 courses, the one I enjoyed the most is the management course. Instead of focusing on particular areas, this course is more like a basic introduction of all kinds of business management for freshman, however, it was not easy to pass. Besides daily homework, midterm and final test, students have to prepare a presentation in groups with the assigned topic, what brings more challenge to me is that I’m the only exchange student in the class, there are no familiar faces in the classroom. Lucky for me I had been received by a group of very kind freshmen students. The content of the lesson was not complicated at all, even do a student who majors in politics and economics like me, those are not that difficult to understand, what impressed me the most is the excellent speech given by the professor. It’s a little bit shame that I can’t remember the professor's name but all that keeps up in my mind is the way she taught the lesson was very impressive. What makes her so good is that she can guide you to think out of the picture, encouraging us to discuss our presentation not only using the material in class that can let the whole class learn new things throughout different group presentations. At first, I thought I won’t be able to blend in with my groupmates but somehow they show high professional working skills, we finished our presentation within 3 days and no free riders, they even do better than my colleagues when I was in school clubs. After taking this course I believe not only I learned the knowledge and skills of managing, what makes me feels self-growing the most is the positive attitude toward taking different courses in all kinds of fields. In the past I usually take courses that I have the confidence to pass or matches my major, now I’m more willing to explore other lessons, even it means to have more challenges. (337字)

(三)生活環境

The two things I miss the most are the student dormitory and the cool fresh air in Japan. During the exchange period, I stayed at AP House 4, which is the student dormitory for exchange students only. AP House 4 is far away from campus, it takes 50 minutes bus ride to go between these two locations but right next to the local train station, therefore it is more convenient than living in the campus. The room in AP House is fantastic, It’s a single room with your own bathroom, refrigerator, and balcony. Every floor has its own kitchen and wash machine, it was way better than any other dorm I had stayed before. Since it has a nice kitchen and Japan have a lot of choice of processed food in supermarkets, so I did some basic cooking almost every day. It not only saves money but also gives me a chance to start learning cooking by myself. To be honest, at the beginning every time I walk into the supermarket or convenience store, all kinds of food seem so good that I have no idea which one to buy. However, after a few weeks, I had already tried all kinds of food near my dormitory, and the food in Japan is not as healthy as you think. So I started to cook for my own good. The main reason I love the weather in Japan is that I am so afraid of heat. There is no doubt that the air is fresher in Japan comparing to Taipei, moreover, Beppu city is located on the east coastline hence it is much cooler, therefore, I could say I am perfectly fitting the atmosphere. (四)自我成長

The biggest challenge I gave myself is to be a loner. It sounds a little bit weird for an exchange student to say he or she wants to stay away from people, usually, people go abroad for a long time should make friends have more support from a peer, however, I look the other way. For the past two years in Langyang campus, I had spent too much time on club activities and was so exhausted, I barely have my own personal time to relax or make my own plans so I took this opportunity to make a big change in my lifestyle. This didn’t mean I cut myself off from others, I still made some friends from different kinds of countries, it just this time I don’t accompany with them a lot, instead, I planned several trips for my own. In retrospect, I was kind of bold to go to different kinds of places alone, especially I had never travel by myself before. During the long breaks, I went to Fukuoka, Osaka, and Tokyo for sure. It’s more like a makeup trip for me because the last time I visited those places, I couldn’t fully go to the spots I wanted to visit due to my family members, and this was the first time I realize how good it was the feeling of traveling alone. There was no burden at all, I can decide where, when, or how I wanted the trip to be. Since there was no accompany so I was really cautious about everything and had a sense of accomplishment for all the trips I went.(273字)

(五)大三出國建議

I believe all the students go abroad will learn many things and I’m not talking about academic stuff. I think the core of study abroad is to put people in a different environment and force them out of their comfort zone. So my biggest suggestion is plucking up the courage and do things you had never done before or things you can only do there. There is an ideology between me and my friends, we think since your family sacrifice so much to support you go abroad and you are physically out of their control, so why don’t use this great opportunity to challenge ourselves, just to be wild for this time. I know this might sound rebellious but if you put all your time on academic works without any adventure, then there’s no difference with study in your home country, so again I highly recommend going out more, life needs stimulation. Another thing I want to mention here is the seriousness of safety. We are living in a peaceful environment so we seldom raise our guard, however the world outside is far more dangerous than we thought, I personally had a terrible experience when I was in junior high. It was the penultimate day of my summer program at UC Berkeley after we finished our last lesson and on our way back to the dormitory. We saw police officers talking to our program director and we were forbidden to go back to our room, then the teacher gathers us and informed us that our dormitory had been robbed, no room was spared. Lucky for me I locked my luggage so my stuff and passport were safe, but my friends and teachers were not that lucky. So thanks for this event, now I am very careful about everything no matter abroad or not. Japan is already a fairly safe country, but still, I won’t let my guard down at any moment. (325字)
