(二)課程學習

My favorite course is Heather's orientation class. Although it is a required class for all international students and valued zero credit, it is the best and quickest way to get to know other foreign friends around the world. I've met lots of Korean students and was really close to them and I have to say that everyone is super nice and friendly (some Korean boys are cute though). Anyway, it is a fun class with group activities! My second favorite course might be the Spanish class. Spanish 101 is for students who didn't have Spanish bases and have never spoken Spanish. Although most of the American students tended to learn Spanish in their high school year, they still attend this class to practice their flow of speaking, it would be nice to have them in your group as they can help with your class assignments to some degree. The instructor is originally born in the US but married to a Mexican, raising both of her children back in Mexico. She is quite passionate about Spanish teaching and culture. The course is easy to take but requires much effort in after class assignments which are assigned online in the learning platform. Anyway, the instructor teaches in a fun way with a division of study groups in class. I would suggest taking Spanish 101 in the first semester and Spanish 102 in the second semester, these will help develop a more comprehensive Spanish speaking and writing skills. The textbook is a bit expensive but worth it if you take two semesters of Spanish class (each valued 4 credits). (262字)

(三)生活環境

【照片說明:The frozen lake】

Winona is a place located in the border of Wisconsin, it takes 10-15 minutes east to walk to the Mississippi River and 10 minutes west to the lake. Nothing else is near this little town, even Walmart and Target, the two largest marketplaces take 40 minutes to get there on foot. Winona lake is good for biking around and water activities such as SUP and kayaking in the summer and is frozen in the winter season. Life here is quite relaxing and easy if you are not a big fan of cities and crowded places but I will suggest making friends with local students who have cars to drive you around or it might be hard to move from place to place. It gets really freezing cold in the winter, just a little suggestion, most of my friends and I bought our coats in the US because they produce best winter coats for extreme weather (just like that in Minnesota), famous brands like Northface and Columbia have outlets in the cities. Sometimes I hated the weather in Winona, however, it was comfy and warm when you tended to spend time with friends indoor on a freezing winter day. From spring to summer, you can go to the lake lodge by Winona lake and have some outdoor activities such as biking, frisbee, paddleboard, and skateboard for free. Just simply pay 20 dollars for an annual rental fee then you can have access to those activities. ' For the university environment, the only word I came up with to describe is "carefree" because all faculties are easy to access and as well as the wifi and printers in every building. (275字)

The first culture shock of mine is the height of the bathroom door. I can feel the sight of the outside as I seat on the toilet, it was the first time I've ever seen that kind of design in my life. Second, the way American students act in class amazed me a lot. They seemed really confident when they raise hands and ask questions. In comparison to the students from Asian countries, they seemed to have more abilities to lead the discussion during the class and this is what we all have to learn from them. I met some American friends during my exchange and I found out it's the best way to improve my English when I started to chat with them and text them in English. I started to have more confidence in myself because you can always learn from them and the way they deal with academic matters. Some of them provided me academic support when I have difficulties writing papers and corrected my pronunciation. I felt like they gradually became my personal tutor! The other thing I want to mention here is the concept of time management. I found out that even though I didn't have many courses to study but attending school events still requires the same attention as regular classes demand. Both studying and social activities are important to an international student like me so how to balance the usage of time is a lesson I learned during my exchange period. (248字)

(五)大三出國建議

I believed that some of you choose WSU based on the relatively cheap price and comfortable environment. So all I wanted to say is that it's your time to earn more credits and experience that worth the tuition you paid. Also, it is possible for you to get enrolled in some academic writing courses and resume writing programs at WSU that can help a lot in your future. Even some companies and organizations offer workshops and speeches for students on campus, it is helpful for us to broaden our horizons and enhance self abilities. I have to say that WSU offers student organizations a great opportunity to hold events. The first event international students would probably attend might be the club fair and you can tell how active they are when participating in after-class activities. I will recommend going to those clubs either for fun or learning leadership from those great people. Even some course requires off-class activities such as musical and speeches to attend. This will be a good opportunity to strengthen personal skills. Some courses might have prerequisites but you still can ask the international service for help or email the instructor by yourself to get enrolled in the course. Finally, there's skiing and snowboarding courses and clubs in the winter season. I personally think attending those courses is the coolest and different experience from our PE classes in Taiwan (as we don't have that much snow though). (240字)
