2019大三出國輔導通報系統 - 留學心得報告[編輯]

(一)基本資料

University: SUNY Cortland, It’s at the upper New York State. You need to take 4 to 5-hour drive from JFK airport to SUNY Cortland. 40 minutes drive from Syracuse. Or you can take the train from JFK to Syracuse and drive to SUNY Cortland. First-semester Courses: (CAP100) Intro Computer Applications: You can learn a lot of basic knowledge of computer (CAP104) Computers and Society: How does technology influence society? The advance of science and human beings. (COM100) Human Communication: Communicate is an art and knowledge, you have to speak differently when you are in a different situation or role in this society. The knowledge of human, the knowledge of communicating. This is a good class for everyone. (ICC 145, 147,149) Academic Language: These series of courses will improve your writing, listening, reading, speaking and grammar for English. (WGS100) Intro to WGS studies: This course is talk about Feminism. Each classis just like a speech and talk about many concepts, true story and history. What is Feminism? Why we have this kind of concept? Second-semester courses: (CAP209) Python Programming: It’s a simple class, and you will have a lot of practice in this course. It’s useful and handy. (CAP240) Intermediate Computer Application: We learn many different Adobe application skills during the class. You will learn a lot of editing skills. (MCS186) Introductory programming: Fundamental programming skills. (SOC150) Intro Sociology: This is a great class that talk about society. How does society associate these culture, history, government, human beings? We all ruled by this society but also ruling this society. (REC108) Cross-Country skiing: You will learn some skiing skills during this class and skiing on the way of nature, crossing the path of hill and forest. It’s a great experience. (288字)

(二)課程學習

One of my favourite class is Cross-Country skiing. This class only need to take five times of classes. In the beginning, I just want to learn how to ski. The only thing I want to learn is to slide on the snow smoothly, and that’s it! But the truth is the professor will teach you the fundamental skiing skill at the first class. The second and third classes will teach you some different skiing skills during the class. And those skills are not added for skiing, it is basic, cause when you slide on the wildland, uphill and downhill, the winding path with the steep and bumpy road, you will be crazy through the trip, and notice those skills are important. I think I pick up the wrong course when I join the second class because I don’t have any skiing experience before this class. I don’t think I can ski smoothly at the first class and add some skiing skills at the second and third class. To be honest, this course was awful, most of my skiing video was falling down the ground miserably. After my skiing class, I always have a lot of bruises on both of my legs and knees. We always go to a different place in each class, which means you have to respond to each terrain randomly and quickly, you have to conquer many halls or a rock on the road. I think it is impossible for the beginner for skiing. Funny is I didn’t conquer each hill, halls and rocks. I just keep falling from the first class to the fifth class. I have hatted this class before, but I love it at the end of the class. It’s just liked a miracle, although I am not very good at skiing, but I love to skiing at the wild nature and admire all these sceneries, I become braver when I falling down the snow every time, I am stronger and full of energy to face every challenge. I love this course, I love to face many different challenges, I am braver now. (354字)

(三)生活環境

When I went to Cortland it was August, the weather was perfect. The sun was hot but it was also windy which was really comfortable. As soon as I started to adapt this place I notice it is a really lovely place. Although it is not the big, fashion city but it is friendly and nice-looking. The buildings are short and the air is clean. By the time I started to work at the dining hall, one of my co-workers told me that when the snow comes it will be super terrible. Honestly I wasn’t frustrated about that, in fact I was a little expecting because I never saw snow in my life. When it started to snow, it was so beautiful that my boyfriend got so excited and started to eat snow. But still it brought us some inconveniences. For example the road became slippery and the temperature got colder. So big coats and a pair of water proof shoes became the essential equipment for the rest of the days. However, it wasn’t all bad about the snow. There are several activities can only be done on the snow like skiing and snow tubing. Of course, a snow fight is necessary. I still remember the first time having the snow fight my hair got wet but I was so happy. The food there if you cook on your own which I did, you can always find the ingredients in Walmart or Aldi’s. The school also provides meal plan if you are lazy. If you want to go shopping the international office will arrange a trip to Destiny mall. You can always find a good deal in Marshall and it is close to the dormitory.(288字)

(四)自我成長

There is one thing that really shocked me is that we need to come back early because of the coronavirus. I feel frustrated for a very long time when we are tending to come back. I got a plan to finish my classes, to have another trip to New York City, to stay there during the summer break and take the internship to get more experience at America. But everything was gone. What a pity! We can’t change this situation and also our professor. New York State was the most severely affected area. We can’t take this risk to stay there. Most of the plan was cancelled during that time, and also our plan was cancelled twice. Everything was messy and confusing. Just stay at our dorm and won’t go out. I have never thought that my plan to study abroad would end like this. We even can’t say goodbye to our friends and professors and my working partner and our managers. I will miss them very much without pictures. What a miserable experience to my study abroad journey. But I still have to look forward, even we won’t leave now, but we still need to leave this place later. There is another journey we need to take and face, we have no time to look backwards. Maybe next time I will have the chance to fulfill these plan that I didn’t finish. I think it brightly and keep forward. Hope everywhere will be okay of the coronavirus and stay healthy.(257字)

(五)大三出國建議

This university is a good school for international students to study English. Every professor is friendly and willing to offer their help, especially for international students. Besides this the students here are all hard-working, they can bring you a phenomenon which keeps you always be on the same page. The location of SUNY Cortland is far away from New York City which is definitely a big flaw for those who tend to visit landmarks and travelling around. But if we look into a bigger picture, your parents pay the tuition for you to study abroad not playing around the world. So instead of getting too close to those big cities, I will consider to stay in the school like SUNY Cortland and focusing on the lessons. You can always travel around during the breaks. There are several breaks in the United States and every each of them is long enough for you to play. During the time of studying, you can also work in their dining hall which always provide jobs for the students to earn some money. Then you can play without worrying about spending your parents’ money. Another advantage of this school is that they force you to live with the Americans. They force you to leave your comfort zone, force you to grow, force you to promote instead of keeping speaking your mother language with your friends every day and learn nothing. But you still need to encourage yourself to talk to them. In the beginning, they will show you their goodness from curiosity. But if you keep remaining shy then they will consider you as a weird person. Try to get along with them nice and slow. They will show you their patience so don’t give up on trying.(294字)
