In these two semesters, the class I choose in fall is “principle of macroeconomics”, “world geography”, “journalism and mass media”, and “ introduction of art”. In the spring semester, the course I choose is “consumer behavior”, “business to business”, “principle of management”, and “principle of marketing”. In the fall semester, my favorite class is "principle of macroeconomics", and the professor is Yaya Sissoko. Although his pronunciation is not easy to listen, he is an earnest professor. He treats international students very well. I just want to remind you guys, don’t be afraid of asking questions, every professor is willing to help you deal with the problems. Back to the topic, there are lots of assignments, tests, and online quizzes in this course so you can learn a lot in this class. In my memory, at the beginning of semester, you have to pay probably 100 dollars to buy the online book. You can also buy the paper book but I recommended buy an online book. If you buy an online book, you can take assignments, and tests whenever you want. If you already take online tests, you don’t need to take tests in class. In this course it is easy to get higher grades because Yaya asked lots of questions in class. If you said the correct answer, you will get extra points. But if you wrong, he will also give you some points to encourage your audacity. However, my favorite professor is Varinder Sharma. He is a wonderful professor, he makes concepts easy to understand. But he is also a strict professor, he said we can’t use cellphones or any technology products in his classes, he’ll call you out in classes. The most important thing is you have to take notes in class because this professor will not post the PPT on the website, he doesn’t post is because he wants everyone to pay attention in class. In my opinion, it is really a good way to learn lots of knowledge in class. In all of his tests and exams, he will use the concepts he teaches in class, so it is very important to take notes in class! (363字)

(三)生活環境

All of the international students will live in Wallwork Hall which it is near North Dining Hall. Wallwork Hall is in the middle of school, it is convenient to go to every building in IUP. If you take business classes, you have to go to a building called “Eberly”, and it takes only 10 minutes from Wallwork to Eberly. The Indiana University of Pennsylvania is located in the east of America, so it is pretty cold over there. Although it is cold, I like the weather there. Because the weather is dry, different from Taiwan. Taiwan is too wet that you will feel sticky when you sweat. Around IUP, there are some restaurants, such as McDonald’s, KFC, Teerak Thai restaurant… , and so on. There are two places you can go shopping, one is TJMaxx and the other is Indiana Mall, don’t expect too much because Indiana is not a flourishing place. If I want to buy some clothes, I usually go to TJMaxx, it is cheap and if you find some good-looking clothes in there. There is an outlet near Indiana, but it is not in Indiana county. This outlet is called “Groove City Premium Outlets”, I have never been there before, but my friends said it is awesome! Every county have a downtown, in Indiana, there is a fancy place called “Philadelphia Street”, there are some restaurants, for example: “China King”, “Kim Moon”, “Thai@Indiana”, “Insomnia Cookies”, and so on. There are two grocery stores I often go, one is “Martin’s”, and the other is “Walmart”. On the way to Walmart, there is a buffet called “King Buffet”, it’s a Chinese buffet, it’s really cheap and taste not bad! One of my friends often cook by himself, he really likes a store call “Audi’s”, the food is cheaper than Walmart, this place is near Walmart. Let’s talk about the transportation, there are some buses you can take in Indiana, I always take route 12, this line can bring you to what I just mentioned except the stores in Philadelphia. All buses you can take in Indiana is free because of your I-card, the fee is included in your tuition fee, so take many times to worth every penny.(374字)

(四)自我成長

No matter the culture or education, there is very different from Taiwan. It is my first time been to America, even though I have some common sense but when I first face these things I still shock. The first thing I’m not used to it is the stranger will ask “How are you”, but it will never happen in Taiwan. Although it is the thing that you will totally face in America. I remember when they first ask me “How are you” I felt nervous, nowadays it is a common thing, but I still won’t ask outlander. In this year, we face the coronavirus, so we go back to Taiwan earlier, we haven’t finished the classes in there, we turn back to Taiwan and use “ZOOM” which is a facetime application to finish our online classes. In IUP, it is a really safe place, everyone is kind and friendly in here, on the other hand, Philadelphia is a big city in Pennsylvania, there are also lots of black people over there. It is not discrimination, but I’m really afraid of black people. I think they are rude and they will discriminate against Asian people. Why I mention coronavirus is that some of my friends in Temple University face racial discrimination because of the coronavirus, they will yell at you, cough on you, … , and so on. But in IUP, we didn’t face these things. We are lucky because the virus break out is in our spring break, most of the local people go back to their county. Although we met some unexcepted things this semester, it still let me learn a lot(276字)

(五)大三出國建議

I think school and enterprise canceled the “carshare” plan because senior students shared their experiences in IUP mentioned that we can use the car to everywhere and it is cheap. But this is canceled in this year, I don’t know it will open in next semester or not. If we rent a car, we often rent from “Enterprise” because this is a big company in the USA and there is a store near IUP that you can walk and take a bus to there. I recommend the junior student if you are sure that you will rent a car in your winter vacation, PLEASE go the “enterprise” near IUP, the employees in there will give you a promotion code that code can let you do not need to pay the fee under 21 years old! It really saves a lot! It is not far away from IUP to Pittsburgh, it takes only one hour. If you feel boring in IUP, you can rent a car and drive to near places! Because IUP is a safe and boring place, I recommended you join the activity and program IUP hold, such as international friendship program, watch some football games, conversation partner, .., and so on. Some of the programs will improve your English speaking. IUP is a really good school of helping international students.(221字)
