2019大三出國輔導通報系統 - 留學心得報告[編輯]

(一)基本資料

My school is International College of Hotel Management which located in Adelaide, Australia. I studied there since 2019/07/15 - 2020/07. I took four courses, Food and beverage service standards, Delivering guests service practicum, Culinary technique and standards, and Room division service standards.(40字)

(二)課程學習

My favorite class was in ICHM was culinary service and standards. This course was the first time to open for international students, which meant that we were the first international students who took this class. In the class, we learnt how to be a chef. For example, we cooked group by group. The teacher chef demonstrated once and then we followed the teacher. We made friends whose nationalities were different through this class because teamwork was the most important thing in the kitchen. We communicated with each other and cooperated to complete daily tasks. However, sometimes the class pressurized me because every time when we were in class, the teacher would mark our performances and gave us scores after class. Hence, we needed to be very focus and positive to learn, otherwise, we might fail, such as trying to answer the questions which the teacher asked. I could not often answer questions faster than those classmates whose mother tongues were English, so I felt frustrated. To put it from another angle, this embarrassed situation made my English skills be better. In order to trying hard to answer questions faster than those foreign students to get higher scores on the performance, my classmates who were also from TKUL and I previewed and read the recipe before the class. We studied together at someone’s dorm. The atmosphere was so good and unforgettable. Perhaps my score did not higher than those students, however, I acquired ample of knowledges about culinary skills. I was glad that I chose this lesson because if I did not take this course, maybe I would not have the chance to experience for being a chef and never realize how difficult to work in the kitchen. Every time we made a delectable dish successfully and recognized by the chef, we felt enormous sense of achievement. That was the reason why I liked this course.(316字)

(三)生活環境

ICHM located at the biggest city of South Australia, Adelaide. Especially, it was in the suburb area and it took about 20 minutes by bus from school to the central of city. It was a little inconvenient to me who liked to go shopping. However, a beautiful park was proximity to our school. Sometimes, I went there with my friends in good weathers. It was sunny and warm most of the time in Adelaide. Although it was winter from July, I felt warm and bracing. I think it was not colder than in Taiwan during winter due to the low humidity. During studying at ICHM period, we lived at International Student House where beside our school. It only took about five-minute walk to our classrooms. Our school was like an administration building, sometimes I got lost in it at the beginning. I took some time to get used to it. We shared classrooms with the students from Le Cordon Bleu Australia. As for our dormitories, there were a kitchen and a dining space around it where we could have breakfast, lunch, and dinner there. Sometimes, ICHM would hold activities in the dining space as well. Chefs provided various styles of delicious cuisine every day, such as Australian style, Asian style, and Korean style. Thanks to those chefs, I gained 6 kilograms weight in 6 months. In addition, there were a small soccer field, a volleyball net, and a tennis court outside our dorms. We could borrow sport equipment from the reception and played with our friends there in our free time. To be honest, I felt like I lived at an amazing hotel and satisfied. (272字)

(四)自我成長

Before I studied in Australia, I never left my hometown for such a long time. I was then entirely unsophisticated, even a tiny thing could terrify me a lot, such as taking a flight to Melbourne alone. At that moment, I did not know there were many challenges in the future more difficult than just taking a flight on my own. In my views, within this whole year, I think that the most challenging thing was my mind. When I was out of my comfort zone, everything to me was new and unfamiliar. I felt excited but anxious. I was apprehensive about I could not stuck to the local people and missed my hometown so much. However, I thought took much. I told myself that I should be braver and more independent. This was a good opportunity to explore the world. Although the education of Australia was different from Taiwan’s, I still passed anyway. I found that Australian education was more focus on student’s critical thinking and being open-minded. To be honest, I prefer this. It was more interesting. Not only their education was different, but also the lifestyles. To compared with the eastern and western lifestyle, both existed various disparities. Hence, I got culture shock within this year. For example, most western people’s shower time were in the morning, and they go outside after taking a shower and start a new day. In a contrary, in Taiwan, people take a shower before going to bed and end a day. Moreover, according to my observation, Australian like to wear sunglasses in the sunny days instead of putting up sun umbrellas. If it rained slightly, they do not use umbrellas as well. Those people who always put up umbrellas are Chinese or Asian. (295字)

(五)大三出國建議

If you want to learn both theorical knowledge and practical lessons at the same time, ICHM is a very good choice. Studying at ICHM campus for half year and going to industry placement at famous brands of four or five-star hotels for half year. You can learn not only knowledge on the books but also acquire experiences in the workplace. In addition, ICHM’s teachers have great passion on teaching students and even that you have problems regardless of private problems or academic questions, they always happy to help you. They will treat you like their sons and daughters with full of love. They teach you professional skills about hospitality, and how to do critical open-mined thinking. During the internship period, you will get paid as well, so do not worry about the financial difficulties. You can earn your own pocket money. There is no doubt that choosing this school. ICHM has been cooperating with TKUL ITM for a long time, so it provides complete system from applying to graduating. Hence, there is no advent of disadvantage for you to study at this school. You can have a very interesting and fun life when studying at ICHM. ICHM also often held a lot of activities and parties in order to avoiding students feeling bored at school. You have many opportunities to exchange the culture with foreigners who come from various countries. As an international student who participated the studying abroad program, I just needed to take four courses, so it was not too many to cope with. I still had adequate free time to enjoy the life in Adelaide with friends. To sum up, I recommend choosing ICHM and I promised you would like it. (285字)

(六)其他

During the spring beak, I went on a 8-day- road trip to middle Australia, Northern Territory with my friends which impressed me a lot and those were the best memories in my life. We took at least ten hours a day to drive to our destinations. We enjoyed beautiful scenery along the way as well as explored the mysterious Australian inland. By the way, we saw thousands of stars shining at night, marvelous sceneries, and enormous number of wild animals, such as kangaroos, koalas, and emus. I will remember those experiences in Australia forever. they are too good to forget! (100字)
