I think every courses I chose were amazing. However, I felt really impressed about the course called describing modern English. The course was mainly about the common knowledge of English, such as English grammar, linguistic, cohesion and coherence. At first, I thought it would be an easy lecture to study cause these are all basic knowledge we should have learnt since little. In fact, the lecturer Michael used his plentiful teaching skills to provide us the knowledge of English which we might not notice before. For example, he took the titles of Newspaper as examples to teach us that it will lead to different meanings if we didn't use the correct English grammar. There are 2 lectures and 1 seminar each week. In order to deepen our understanding, Michael will divide all students in two big groups in seminar class, and also set up some games which were based on the content he had taught in class before. Not only Michael put a lot of efforts in class but also the students in this class was one of the reason why I enjoyed this course so much. The students in this course are in different ages, some of my classmates are 18 years old freshman, some of them had entered the workforce and even one of my classmate she got a 7 years old kid already. Due to every students in this course have different identities, we had various topics to start a conversation and chat. I can remember they told me lots of funny stories such as this uni has been shut down for a week in couples years ago because of the serious snow. The atmosphere in class was nice and I can felt all of my classmates are so friendly and took care about me which I didn't expect before i join this class.(303字)

(三)生活環境

The place I stay is close to university metro station which only takes 3 minutes walk to City Campus. Although I didn't choose the house which located in town, it only takes 2 minutes from my place to the nearest shop where you can get essentials and about 10 minutes to Bridges department store or 15 minutes to the Chinese shops. Overall, it's convenient and also quieter than living in town. There are 8 en-suite rooms in this house which means you don't have to share the toilet and shower room with your housemates. The landlord also provide clothes dryer and washing machine for free. The reason why I love this place so much is because it's a brand new modern style house and it has a huge living room and kitchen which you can invite friends to come over. However, the weather forecast is quite useless because the weather here in Sunderland is unpredictable. This week can be super freezing but it can suddenly turns into sunny day in the next week. Moreover, it rains a lot and it's windy in Sunderland so you better bring an umbrella with you. It might snows during the whole December to March in Sunderland. In this year, the first snow was in early February but it didn't last long. There are lots of events you can join during the Christmas vacation in Sunderland. For example, there are ice skating event 45 minutes for less than 10 pounds, carousel in front of the department store and lots of Christmas street vendors in town which is quite lively. (257字)

(四)自我成長

The first problem I faced when I arrived UK is the British accent. I have been learning American English since I was little. The accent and the vocabularies in UK are so different with American English. I could remember one of my British friend asked me 'Do you fancy a cuppa?' and I was so confused what did she mean. After she explained the meaning to me and teach me lots of British English, I'm more used to it than before. The second culture shock was how British invite friends to a party. In Taiwan, normally you can just text the friends you want to invite and tell them the date and the details of the event through your phone. I though it was the same in UK. However, people in UK tend to make their own invitation and send it to the friends they want to invite. At first, I didn't make my own invitation when I tried to hold a party at my place. Fortunately, one of my friend from Malaysia reminded me and made me an invitation so I could send the invitation on time before the party. (192字)

(五)大三出國建議

In my opinion, the only thing you have to do is enjoy the life in UK. You might miss your hometown in the first month but once you open your heart to enjoy the life in UK and make friends from over the world, you will find out how lovely Sunderland is. People might said the life in Sunderland is boring cause it's a small town, however, I would say it's correct and it might be incorrect. How the life will be is all depends on you. For me, the purpose of studying in uk is to integrate into local life and make friends from different countries. One of my housemate Christinah she introduced me to her friends from Malaysia, UK, India, Indonesia, Slovakia and so on, most of them study Year-Round Course in Sunderland University and are same age as me. I had an amazing life in Uk all because of them. Normally, we went for lunch or dinner on every Sunday and we will go to my friend's house to have some drinks after. They brought me to different restaurants everytime so I could try lots of local food in Sunderland. They also brought me to a secret place where you can play pool and drink. On Christmas Eve, my couple friends from Slovakia invited me to their place to have a Christmas Eve dinner. They made a lots of Slovakian food for us and it was really nice. Most of my friends play bands so they also played music by themselves and sing Christmas chant together. Afterwards, we also lighted up the Christmas tree. I was so blessed to have an opportunity to participant the traditional Christmas event with friends in Uk. On 31/12, they also held a countdown party at my place and we also ordered some food from Chinese take away for British friends to try it. In order to introduce our Chinese New Year tradition to our foreigner friends form Europe countries, me and my Malaysian friends threw a Chinese New Year dinner party at my place on early February. Me and my friends cooked some traditional food like fried tofu with eggs, pak choi vegetables, stew pork etc... for them. We also taught them how to use chopsticks and it was super funny. During the end of lockdown, It's legal to go outdoor with maximum 6 people in a group so we also hanged out a lots. We went to picnic at Ryhope beach which is located at a secret place between Durham and Sunderland to celebrate my friend's birthday and graduation. I consider myself a lucky person to met lots of amazing friends from Sunderland cause I really enjoyed the life during this year. For example, they invited me to join a volunteer about taking care with the kids in order to let their parents to go to church on Sunday. We played with kids, reading books for them, designed games for them and even sang and danced for them. Moreover, we also donated some chocolate and bunny dolls to the kids in hospital during the Easter Festival. This experience was so meaningful for me. Like what I said before, you have to make an effort to the life that you wish to be. For me, it's a year of culture sharing with the friends from different countries. Most of the people I met in Sunderland are nice and friendly, however there are also spoiled kids on street will point at you and shout coronavirus which is quite impolite. In my opinion, just ignore them and be yourself. If they really do something physically mean to you, just call the police cause discrimination is a serious topic in UK. I think I learned a lots in this year not only increasing my English ability but also learned how to share and respect different cultures from other countries.(643字)
