(一)基本資料

My name is LIN-Jia, studying at Tamkang University in Taiwan, majoring in department of International Tourism Management also completing a Tourism and Hospitality Management at William Angliss Institute in Australia. This is my first time studying abroad, also the first time going to Melbourne Australia. When I was at William Angliss Institute, I study the courses including event stakeholders, resort and hotel operation management, and food and beverage operation also practical class. Everything is new to me. At the beginning of the courses, I was afraid to communicate with everyone. I have no confidence to speak English. Using English and speaking English is the biggest challenge for me when I studied abroad.(112字)

(二)課程學習

In William Angliss Institute, the best course I love is the food and beverage operation and practical class. And the teacher's name is called Kylie. Actually, this course is the most challenge for me. In this practical class, we need to serve the customers and we need to learn how to carry three plates on two hands in one time. We need to learn different types of services such as a la carte, function, buffet. Communication is the most important thing in this course. When the customers arrive at the restaurant, we have to greet and welcome them, give them an enormous smile as well. At the beginning of the course, I have no confidence to communicate with everyone. I felt afraid to interact with people and have lots of pressure. I was very nervous when I was speaking English. I felt low confident when I was in communication. But I always tell myself, "Speak! You need to speak." Sometimes, I listen to this sound in my mind. In this practical class, I really want to build my confidence and have more communication with Kylie and classmates. I was so happy and more confident when Kyle gave me some encouragement. I know I have a lot of things needed to improve. For example, I will try not afraid anymore to communicate. But Kylie always told us this place is a safe environment. If we have problems, we can ask, we can talk, and we need to communicate. After a few weeks, I tried to speak and communicate. In this course, every student needs to play a role such as a floor manager, a bar manager, and a kitchen manager to lead the team to service customers. We need to have a small meeting before opening the restaurant. Managers need to hold the meeting. Everyone has two chances to play these roles. On the first chance, our team did not do well. Our team was lack of preparing, communicating, and leading the team. The second opportunity, we tried our best to prepare and did everything. I tried my best and after the meeting, Kylie told me she was very proud of me. It thrilled me that Kylie encourages me. And I will bring what I learned the skill and knowledge to the workplace in the future.(385字)

(三)生活環境

In Melbourne, I really have wonderful and nice memories. I think this city is like Taipei. There are a lot of Asian people. It also has Chinatown, having a lot of Chinese food, Japanese food, and Korean food. Melbourne's transportation is very convenient, there are subway, bus, tram, uber and taxi. There are three to four supermarkets around my living place. It is very convenient for me. Everything about the price in Australia is higher than in Taiwan, so my friends and I often cook at home by ourselves. Although I am not good at cooking, I still like to go to a supermarket and buy a lot of ingredients and then cooking I want. Melbourne' s weather is better than in Taiwan. In my opinion, there are a lot of people wanting to live in Melbourne the most important reason is the weather. The weather in Melbourne is comfortable for people, but I encountered some days that the weather was too hot. The temperature was around 40 degrees Celsius. There is a big park near the school and my living place. I will go there to lay on the grass and close my eyes to enjoy Melbourne's weather, people, culture, and environment. People in Melbourne is nice to everyone. Sometimes, people will give you a nice smile, it just like give you energy to welcome a new day. My family and I really love Melbourne and if I have a chance I will go there again in the future.(249字)

(四)自我成長

In Australia, English is the first language. To me, this is my first time studying abroad. In studying, I really have no confidence in using English to speak and communicate with other people. At the beginning of the course, I am very quiet in the classroom, and write the notes also listening to the professor. I am very afraid that if we need to talk, communicate, or do a presentation. In the courses, I slowly found some methods. And about the practical class, I also started to communicate and talk with my classmates. If I encounter some problems, I will also seek to ask the teacher, the teacher will give me encouragement, and the suggestion. Thanks to my teachers and my classmates. I am not afraid of English now. During studying, I will feel a lot of pressure and want to go back to my hometown. I miss my friends and parents in Taiwan. I have some difficult assessments, and I need to spend a lot of time understanding what the teacher wants us to teach, but in the end I will complete it as scheduled, and after a few weeks, I will see what the teacher gives me the feedback. The content of lectures abroad is not the same as that of Taiwan. We need to complete our assessment or have the ability to think independently. We need to solve problems ourselves. We can use resources in the library or data on the Internet. We also need to write papers. There are some academic materials to support your argument Looking back on my life in Australia, I really feel that I am very happy to have this opportunity to go abroad to see a different world.(287字)

(五)大三出國建議

I think the opportunity for our school to have a junior year abroad is very rare. When I was in my second year of school, I was sure to choose half-semester class and half-semester internship. At the beginning, I was definitely sure to choose Australia. My parents also supported me to go to Australia. The time difference between Australia and Taiwan is only three hours. Finally, I chose WAI. WAI needs to find an internship by ourselves. What is the meaning of finding a job by ourselves? We need to write our own resume, invest in our own resume, and use resources or job sites on the Internet to find a related industry about hotel, restaurant or tourism. So, I really understand how desperate it is when you put in more than a hundred jobs and always respond with no interest. I want to tell my younger siblings that the WAI courses are great. There are practical courses that can help you understand what knowledge or skills you need in the catering industry. But I think you have to find a job by yourselves, this is the most difficult thing you will be facing. If you find a good job by yourself, it can also be considered as an internship. This job will definitely be very different for you, because this is done by your own strength. I would like to suggest that younger siblings, if the work experience is not enough, and the English correspondence ability is in the ordinary stage, then I think WAI may not be suitable for you. I wish you all juniors and sisters that you can grow a lot during your junior year abroad and leave good memories in your heart.(287字)
