The Introduction to Academic Discourse ESL guided me to analyze the skills of the article and to improve the reading ability and speed. During the discussion with my classmates, I learned about other cultures and different people's ways of thinking. I also understand different teaching methods in American writing classes. I didn't know how to analyze an essay when I was writing an English essay. I always wrote what I thought of, and there was no topic sentence in each paragraph to describe what I want to emphasize in this paragraph. The function of the topic sentence is mainly to point out the topic of the article, to connect the relationship between the paragraph and the main argument, as a buffer for each paragraph with different topics. After this semester of study, I can use claims, evidence, audience, tone, organization, and other categories to analyze articles. The content of the writing class in the United States is also very different from that in Taiwan. In Taiwan, the teacher will always take the content of the textbook, and the students will always take notes. There are few opportunities to express our views, so I cannot adopt it when I first come to class. Because it is normal for a whole class not to share any ideas before. In the U.S., there are less than 15 students in the class. The professor will give every student the opportunity to express their perspectives. Professor not only teaches the writing skills but also guides us on how to analyze the focus of the article and think about the author's arguments. Sharing my thoughts in class gives me a better understanding of which part of me is not enough, and my classmates also will challenge my views. I think I have gained a lot from this. Because most of the people in the writing class are international students. In this semester's writing class, the ability to learn sentence construction, topic sentence, and reading skills and analysis of articles have helped me a lot, but I think the thing that makes me grow the most is to share my opinions in the classroom and discuss with students from different cultures. Temple University is a public research university in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s largest city, is notable for its rich history, on display at the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall (where the Declaration of Independence and Constitution were signed), and other American Revolutionary sites. Also iconic are the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, immortalized by Sylvester Stallone’s triumphant run in the film "Rocky." The primary climate of Philadelphia is the humid subtropical climate (Köppen climatic classification Cfa), characterized by hot, muggy summers and moderately cold winters. The largest city of Pennsylvania and one of the most populated cities in the United States has a diverse climate as a result of the various geographical characteristics encompassing the region. As a result of its location, Temple University has limited on-campus housing. Many students would prefer to take advantage of living on campus throughout their entire collegiate experience, but they are unable to because of the lack of space. Students are not guaranteed accommodations on campus after their freshman year, and after sophomore year it is almost impossible to obtain a dorm room. The areas surrounding campus are not as safe and clean as they should be, and I believe that Temple students would benefit greatly from another dorm building specifically for upperclassmen. In addition, on-campus housing is very expensive comparing with off-campus. Off-campus also do not have a lot of restrictions. Because there is a lot of crime in this neighborhood, I recommend people can living in a student apartment rather than a house near campus. (257字)

I deem that the pace of teaching in western education is obviously slower and feels relaxed. Teaching mostly starts with the interests of students and provides many options. It emphasizes spontaneous and pleasant learning, allowing students to have space to think, rather than putting knowledge into their heads. This is a free and comfortable learning environment. , Giving Western students more creativity. In my sustainable environment class this semester, We also talked about the concept of carbon footprint. In Taiwan, the professor must quickly go to the next topic after having a concept in class. However, in the United States, the professor not only taught us a concept but also let us measure our carbon footprint. After the test, we will discuss How to reduce the carbon footprint in which aspect? And communicate with our classmates in class to share our views. The professor also asked everyone to come to the stage to share their ideas. The students will discuss this point together and try to make a plan to complete the way to decrease carbon footprint. Chinese students often have to endorse, usually based on learning existing knowledge, while studying in the U.S. has no endorsement at all because they rarely use fixed textbooks, and many courses focus on practical activities, focusing on students, emphasizing learning the autonomy of students requires students to have their own opinions, but also be good at expression and teamwork. In my microeconomics class, The professor asked us to use the “price discrimination’’ to actually design everyone's own product pricing strategy, let me find that the knowledge I have learned can really be used in life. Although there are still exams, it is much less than in Taiwan. In Taiwan, almost every day you take an exam. Especially in the discipline of economics is conceptual. So when I first came to the United States to take classes, I was not used to expressing my own ideas in every class. Although it takes time to adapt to the new environment, as long as you maintain a heart of learning and progress, trying to practice English and review the knowledge learned every day. After they overcome the pressure, they can definitely learn a lot of new knowledge and learn about other culture’s advantages. (378字)

It is okay if you haven’t had TOEFL or IELTS grade. You can go to a language school in the summer vacation, which is much more fun than studying at home and going to cram school. You will find that the English you learn can really be used to communicate. In addition, You can adapt to the environment. Studying and hanging out with classmates will also give you an opportunity to use English. Compare language schools and campus courses. I think campus courses make me learn more. Language schools are more suitable for making friends and have less pressure. English in university courses is just a tool for learning knowledge. Studying campus courses can also truly experience the life of American university life. (124字)
